Abstract

Abstract

Sleep disorders increase with age, with prevalence approaching 50% in the elderly (65 years and above). In Indonesia, about 30% of the elderly experience sleep disorders. Several studies have shown that older people who have poor sleep patterns or who experience sleep disorders are at risk of dementia, mental illness, including anxiety and depression, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. Sleep disorders can be treated with medication, but it can cause side effects such as drowsiness, poor concentration, and dementia. These side effects contribute to the risk of falls, accidents, and cognitive impairment. So to avoid these effects, a non-pharmacological approach can be taken, one of which is acupressure. Acupressure is the application of finger or thumb pressure on acupoints. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of acupressure on sleep quality in the elderly. The research used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental research design. This design has a comparison group (control) and an intervention/treatment group, but before being given treatment (intervention), a pretest and posttest are carried out. The number of samples in this study amounted to 96 respondents, with the sampling technique used being purposive sampling. 96 respondents will be divided into control groups and intervention groups. The statistical analysis method used is the Wilcoxon test. The difference in the quality of elderly sleep before and after applying acupressure in the intervention group with an average (mean) of 0.479. As for the control group, -0.021. It can be seen that in the control group, there was an increase in value after applying acupressure. The p-value of the intervention group is 0.001 (p <α), where it can be concluded that there is a real (significant) difference in the average improvement in the quality of elderly sleep as seen from the value of each assessment before and after acupressure is applied.

Abstract

Mental health is still an issue that has not received optimal attention from various parties. It is because there is a large treatment gap with most mental illness disorders not yet detected, there are still many health workers who have not been trained in mental health screening and management programs, and the treatment gap means that many People With Mental Illness (ODGJ) have not treated. This requires an analysis of recovery in the Maluku Islands region to give meaning to the lives of ODGJ even though they experience relapse. The research aims to analyze the recovery of ODGJ in the Maluku Islands region. This research used a cross-sectional approach with 268 respondents spread across five districts/cities of the Maluku Islands. The data analysis used in this research is univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. The research results show that most respondents live in Central Maluku (29.5%). In the bivariate analysis, it was found that the variables gender, religion, marital status, education level, duration of suffering from schizophrenia, living in the same house, drug consumption, and visits to the health center were significantly related to ODGJ recovery (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the variables' age and distance from home to the health center showed a statistically insignificant relationship with ODGJ recovery (p>0.05). Meanwhile, multivariate analysis shows that ODGJ living at home is the strongest predictor (OR=8.295, 95% CI=4.441-10.172) among other variables that influence the recovery of ODGJ in the Maluku Islands. The findings of this research are crucial for developing interventions and policies to promote institutional recovery in the Maluku Islands.

Abstract

The nutritional status of school-age children is a crucial determinant of their health, growth, and academic performance. However, low nutrition literacy and frequent consumption of packaged foods high in sugar, salt, and fat pose significant challenges. This community service program aimed to improve students’ nutritional awareness through food label reading education at SD YPPK Waenibe (YPPK Waenibe Elementary School). The program employed health education sessions on balanced nutrition and interactive practice in reading food labels, including demonstrations of sugar and salt content. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test assessments among 19 students. Results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 68.37 (pre-test) to 80.11 (post-test). Most students shifted from the “fair” to the “good” knowledge category. These findings confirm that simple, practice-based educational interventions can effectively enhance nutrition literacy among school-age children. Moreover, the program has the potential to empower students as change agents in both school and family contexts. Nevertheless, this initiative was limited to a single intervention and lacked parental involvement. It is recommended that future programs be integrated into school curricula and involve parents to strengthen children’s healthy consumption behaviors.

Abstract

Schizophrenic patients during pregnancy have significant consequences such as gestational diabetes (especially when taking antipsychotics), gestational hypertension, venous thromboembolism, fetal growth restriction, stillbirth, premature delivery, and fetal anomalies. The quality of life of schizophrenic patients during pregnancy will never be realized without the support of all parties, including their partners. This study aims to explore the schizophrenic couple's perspective on pregnancy. The method used in this research is qualitative research using a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques used 30-45 minutes of in-depth interviews and were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven stages. The results of this study found three themes, namely (1) sincerity in caring for those in distress, (2) Belief in God's destiny, and (3) Fear of having a child with a mental disorder. New insights in this research about 'sincerity in caring for in distress' can provide inspiration that there is still sincerity in caring for a sick partner in a difficult life. This research encourages health workers, especially nurses, to provide holistic and comprehensive health services to their partners.

Abstract

Medical rehabilitation services are one of the key pillars of the healthcare system, particularly in supporting patient recovery and preventing long-term disability. However, this unit often receives insufficient attention in hospital performance evaluations. This study aims to assess the performance of the Medical Rehabilitation Unit at RSUD Dr. M. Haulussy using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach, which comprises four perspectives: learning and growth, internal business processes, customers, and finances. A quantitative research design was employed using questionnaire instruments and descriptive analysis involving 50 employee respondents and 100 patients. The findings show that, within the learning and growth perspective, there is a commitment to human resource development through training, although access to such opportunities remains uneven. The internal business process perspective highlights weaknesses in service innovation, adequacy of facilities, and continuity of patient care. From the customer perspective, the unit demonstrates a broad market share and a strong growth rate of new patients; however, patient retention and satisfaction levels remain moderate. In the financial perspective, the unit’s contribution to overall hospital revenue is still low (16%), despite clear potential for developing new services. Overall, the BSC evaluation indicates that the Medical Rehabilitation Unit is performing at a moderately good level but requires improvements in facilities, service innovation, staff engagement, and financial strategies to enhance service quality and strengthen its contribution to the hospital.

Abstract

Abstract: One of the leading commodities in Maluku that has yet to receive optimal attention is coconut. This potential resource has been utilized by the community for its coconut flesh and water, but other parts, such as coconut husks and shells, are often discarded. However, both the husk and shell hold economic potential and business opportunities. Due to limited knowledge, farmers have not yet capitalized on coconut shells as products of economic value. Therefore, this initiative aims to enhance knowledge through socio-entrepreneurship and skills in processing coconut shells into souvenirs. The activities comprise three stages, preparation, implementation, and monitoring evaluation. The implementation includes socialization, training through education, simulations, and independent practice for 10 participants. The results of the activity show an increase in participants’ socio-entrepreneurship knowledge from 63,3% to 100%, categorized as good, while training on souvenir production also shows an increase from 80% to 100%. This highlights the need for continuous training to maximize the workers’ potential.
