Abstract

This article is entitled Translating Animation by Eki N. F., Deddy Otara, and Zulfa Asliha entitled “Eyang Habibie” Adit Sopo Jarwo. The purpose of translates Adit Sopo Jarwo’s animation"Eyang Habibie" into English because it presents many cultures in Indonesia and the important aspect of this animation movie is how they respect each other’s differences in their cultures. Therefore, this animation is an interesting object to be translated so as to be enjoyed by foreign viewers. In the process of translating there were several obstacles which included, translator’s limited knowledge of vocabulary in the target language and source language, difficulty in determiningthe equivalent of words in the Target language to be communicative, and difficulty in using "aegisub" subtitle application to equate what the characters say with the subtitles. Anyway, they were solved by using a dictionary to find out words/vocabularies that were not understood, searching the equivalent in the Target Language and then consulting with the proofreader to determining the communicative equivalent then using it in the Target language and also learning about the features available in subtitle application called "aegisub".

Abstract

Tulisan ini berjudul “Translating Sarah Pinsker’s Short Story “Two Truths and A Lie” yakni menerjemahkan cerita pendek “Two Truths and A Lie” karya Sarah Pinsker dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia.“Two Truths and A Lie” merupakan salah satu cerita karya Sarah Pinsker yang terbit pada tahun 2020. Cerita pendek ini telah memenangkan Nebula Award sebagai Best Novellete pada tahun 2021. Cerita ini memiliki setting tahun 1980an dan masa sekarang. “Two Truths and A Lie” bercerita tentang seorang gadis yang hidupnya dipenuhi dengan kebohongan yang ia ucapkan secara spontan. Pesan yang disampaikan dalam cerita ini adalah mengenai kejujuran. Ada dua metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu literature study dan direct practice. Dalam metode literature study, buku, internet, dan jurnal digunakan untuk mendapatkan informasi dan membantu proses penerjemahan. Dalam metode direct practice digunakan 9 teknik: modulasi, amplifikasi, peminjaman, deskripsi, reduksi, literal, variation, adaptasi, dan transposisi. Langkah-langkah yang digunakan dalam proses penerjemahan yaitu analysis, transfer, dan restucturing. Ditemukan beberapa kendala dalam menerjemahkan cerita pendek Two “Truths and A Lie”, seperti kurangnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris yang dimiliki penerjemah, ditemukannya istilah-istilah asing yang tidak ada padanannya dalam bahasa Indonesia, dan idiom dan lelucon yang sulit dimengerti karena perbedaan budaya. Namun, ada solusi untuk mengatasi kendala-kendala tersebut, seperti mempelajari dan mencari istilah-istilah baru melalui kamus cetak maupun online dan internet, serta mempelajari budaya dari bahasa sumber dan mencari referansi untuk menemukan kalimat yang memiliki makna yang sama untuk digunakan pada bahasa sasaran.

Abstract

Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk menerjemahkan teks di Majalah National Geographic Traveler ''133 Destination Rated'', menggambarkan proses menerjemahkan National Geographic Majalah Traveler ''133 Destination Rated'', menjelaskan kendala saat menerjemahkan Majalah National Geographic Traveler ''133 Destination Rated'' dan solusi dari permasalahan tersebut. Ada 3 tahapan dalam menerjemahkan majalah, yaitu: menganalisis teks bahasa sumber, mentransfer dari bahasa sumber ke bahasa target, dan restrukturisasi pesan teks dalam bahasa target. Selain itu, terdapat beberapa kendala yang dihadapi dalam menerjemahkan majalah tersebut, seperti: a) kurangnya penguasaan kosakata bahasa sumber b) menemukan istilah yang tidak memiliki padanan yang tepat c) kesulitan dalam menentukan padanan kata dalam bahasa target. Dalam mengatasi kendala yang dihadapi, beberapa solusi yang dilakukan, adalah sebagai berikut: a) menggunakan kamus digital atau kamus manual untuk mendapatkan padanan yang sesuai, b) menggunakan teknik terjemahan deskriptif, c) mencari dan mempelajari istilah dalam bahasa sumber dan berkonsultasi dengan proofreader.

Abstract

This article is entitled Translating Syafira's Novel Kado Mysterious Volume 3 from Indonesian into English. The purpose is to provide an English version of the children's novel Kado Mysterius because it has an exciting storyline and meaningful messages. Therefore, this novel deserved to be appreciated and introduced as Indonesian literary work to people around the globe. The translation process applied some steps; the Analysis step, the Transfer step, and the Restructuring step. However, several obstacles were found in translating the novel Kado Mysterious; first, the translator found it challenging to find relevant terms in the target language. Then, the translator had limited knowledge of some original or target language words. Moreover, the solutions to overcome these obstacles were applied; first, some terms were searched, studied, and consulted to proofreaders to find the relevant meanings. And the translator also used a dictionary to look up new words found in the original language. Experience and knowledge were gained while working on this report, such as getting new vocabulary, knowing translation techniques, the methods needed, and the stages of the translation process. In addition, applying the proper solution was the answer to easily overcome the obstacles during the translation process.

Abstract

AbstractThis research discusses two of the strategies proposed by Machali which are applied by the translators in translating the Indonesian news texts on the official website of The Indonesian Republic Government Secretariat into the English news texts on the same website. The strategies are transposition and modulation. Research statements of this research are (1) how is the transposition strategy in translating the texts on the official website of The Indonesian Republic Government Secretariat Ministry (2) how is the modulation strategy in translating the texts on the official website of The Indonesian Republic Government Secretariat Ministry. The data collection method in this research are reading and note taking methods that are reading and taking notes the data based on Machali’s strategies. Then, the collected data are analyzed by identifying the transposition and modulation strategies applied by the translators and described them in words. From the analysis of the data the researcher concludes that in translating the Indonesian source texts into the English target texts, the translators apply the two strategies or procedures among the five strategies proposed by Machali. They are transposition and modulation. Transposition strategy is more dominant than modulation strategy.Keywords: strategy, translation, transposition, modulation, accuracy

Abstract

The central goals of this study are to see the implementation of Project-Based Learning for English diploma program students, to see the students' perceptions toward the implementation of project-based learning, and to see the challenges of its implementation in online learning. The research method is a descriptive qualitative method that used Stoller and Simpson theories to analyze the implementation of Project-based Learning in online learning. The results of this study show that 77.1% of respondents are satisfied with the implementation of project-based learning. They also obtained 82.07, which means the students are able to achieve the learning outcome very well. There are some challenges in implementing project-based learning in the pandemic era. They needed autonomous learning methods, especially in mastering language skills, knowledge, and IT skills. However, to achieve learning outcomes and to solve the problems, the students independently discussed and worked together in their group to finish their project. The effect of this process, students are more independent, critical, communicative, and creative in working on the project. Based on the positive findings, project-based learning becomes one of the alternative methods for assisting English diploma program students in acquiring 4Cs.

Abstract

High occupancy in Banyumas tourism sector is fruitful for society. To gain it, support from various parties is needed. One of the ways is by promoting tourism spots. This study aims to analyze the grammatical pattern, the relationship pattern, and the social phenomena in promotion media. It applied literature review and field study by implementing descriptive qualitative method to get the data. They were taken from four tourism spots. They were analyzed and divided into three structures of critical discourse analysis. The analysis showed some results. The first result showed that the diction and the sentence structure of printed and online media were different. The second analysis showed that production, consumption, and distribution of printed and online media were quite different. It could be clearly seen in the absence of various different elements on both of them. The last result showed that both printed and online media held the main function as information media, but the situational, institutional, and social aspects were different. It can be concluded that conducting critical discourse analysis is beneficial when it comes to promote tourism because it can give clear views for the tourism providers to make their promotion better.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman's self-values within the Fundamental Translation course. Known as Jati Diri Unsoed, these institutional values are part of a mandatory subject for all enrolled students. The research sought to evaluate the extent to which character education at the university level has been effectively implemented. The methodology began by asking students to engage in translation tasks and address the challenges encountered during the process, thereby revealing their character traits. This also enabled the lecturer to guide students toward appropriate and thoughtful solutions. Using purposive sampling, selected students’ translations were analyzed by comparing the source and target texts and aligning them with the four core values of Jati Diri Unsoed: intelligence, honesty, strength, and caring. The analysis identified several translation challenges and the techniques employed to resolve them, including amplification, implicitation, correction, addition, and other common translation issues. The findings demonstrate that the ways students addressed these challenges reflect the values of intelligence, honesty, and caring. The study concludes that character education can be effectively integrated into various academic subjects through the application of appropriate pedagogical approaches, methods, and techniques.

Abstract

This study examines the persuasive language employed in political campaign slogans of the 2024 legislative election in Banyumas District, Indonesia. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) (Fairclough, 2015; van Dijk, 1997), the research analyzes 20 campaign slogans collected from posters and billboards of prospective legislative candidates from 18 political parties. The study aims to identify linguistic strategies, analyze how slogans construct political meaning, and explore the reflection of ideology and local culture. The findings show that candidates predominantly use imperative directives, emotive/moral appeals, local dialects, and credibility-based statements. These strategies function to mobilize voters, build trust, and reflect ideological and cultural identities
