Abstract

Background: Oncologic emergencies often occur in patients who have metastases. This condition requires a prompt and accurate diagnosis. Radiotherapy (RT)  plays a substantial role in palliative aspect with the aim of reducing tumor size, reducing symptoms, and improving quality of life. Purpose: To discuss the role of radiotherapy in an oncologic emergency. Literature review: The most common cases requiring radiation in emergency management are superior vena cava syndrome, acute airway obstruction, uncontrolled tumor bleeding, spinal cord compression due to malignancy, and brain metastases. The selection of radiation dose and techniques may vary, taking into consideration patient factors such as poor general condition, the likelihood of receiving curative treatment afterward, severe comorbidities, tumor factors such as histology of malignancy, whether it is a metastatic disease or not, therapeutic factors such as previous radiation history and response to previous systemic therapy. Conclusion: Radiotherapy plays a significant role in oncologic emergency, particularly to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. Several considerations should be evaluated before determining the appropriate radiation treatment are patient factors, previous radiation therapy and response to previous systemic therapy.

Abstract

Background: Regardless of recovery in the number of visits from the pandemic to the new normal and post-pandemic era, hospitals need to ensure that patients who have come to the hospital are willing to visit for a second time (repurchase intention). Repurchase intention is influenced by patient satisfaction and quality of services. There are several tools to assess quality of hospital service, such as HEALTHQUAL questionnaire. There has been no research linking HEALTHQUAL, patient satisfaction, and repurchase intention. Objective: This research aims to study the association between HEALTHQUAL and repurchase intention, mediated by patient satisfaction. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study at a private hospital in Jakarta (December 2022-January 2023). Statistical analysis was performed using SmartPLS software. Results: This study included 100 participants with a mean age of 40 years. Based on the questionnaire results, most of the patients agreed on questions about service quality and satisfaction. Model analysis showed that there was a significant association between HEALTHQUAL, patient satisfaction and repurchase intention (p<0.05; T-statistics>1.96). Moreover, patient satisfaction showed a significant mediator effect towards HEALTHQUAL and repurchase intention (p<0.001, T-statistics>1,96) Conclusion: HEALTHQUAL positively and significantly affects patient satisfaction and repurchase intention. Patient satisfaction also affects repurchase intention positively and significantly. Besides, patient satisfaction partially mediates the effect of HEALTHQUAL on repurchase intention. There is a positive effect of HEALTHQUAL mediated by patient satisfaction on repurchase intention.

Abstract

Introduction: Being in the ring of fire have caused Indonesia prone to emergency and disasters. This condition should make a positive correlation to level of citizen’s knowledge and attitude towards emergency and disaster situation. However, there is no study to assess this condition. This study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude of Indonesian in emergency and disaster using a cross-sectional study collected from questionnaire interviewed by trained medical students in four centers (Jakarta, Depok, Padang, and Makassar).Method: Samples were collected using random cluster sampling. Out of 570 samples participated, most of the respondents had a poor knowledge (56.1%) and attitude (60.7%). Result: There is a significant relationship between knowledge and attitude (p less than 0.001). Age, education, and training on disaster can affect both knowledge and attitude towards emergency and disaster situation (p less than 0.05). However, disaster experience only had a significant contribution towards knowledge (p less than 0.05) but not the attitude (p = 0.856). Conclusion: Most of the population in this study had poor knowledge and attitude in emergencies. These presented data also indicate that training on disaster is urgently needed to give impact on citizen’s awareness. Moreover, further research is needed.
