Abstract

Pronunciation is an important aspect of English learning because it helps students communicate clearly. However, many EFL students still face difficulties in pronunciation due to limited exposure to authentic English input. This study aimed to explore junior high school students’ experiences in learning English pronunciation through Maher Zain’s songs. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design involving eighth-grade students of SMP Plus Tahdzibun Nasyiin. The participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings revealed that students had positive learning experiences when learning pronunciation through Maher Zain’s songs. The songs helped students improve pronunciation accuracy, stress, intonation, and confidence. However, students also faced challenges such as fast song tempo and unfamiliar vocabulary. This study concludes that Maher Zain’s songs can be used as an effective medium for teaching pronunciation. Keywords: English songs, Maher Zain songs, Pronunciation, Students’ Experiences

Abstract

This study investigated the scaffolding strategies applied by a teacher during synchronous online EFL reading activities held outside the traditional classroom setting and explored students’ responses to the support provided during the sessions. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in this research, involving one English teacher and ten members of an English Speaking Club who regularly joined online reading activities. The data were collected through observations, semi structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing procedures. The teacher used various scaffolding strategies during the online reading sessions, such as demonstrating reading strategies, asking guiding questions, explaining unfamiliar vocabulary, giving corrective and elaborative feedback, and encouraging interaction among students. These types of support helped students understand the reading materials more easily and motivated them to participate more actively during the learning activities. In addition, students showed behavioral, cognitive, and emotional involvement throughout the sessions. They joined discussions, answered questions, tried to understand the texts, and gradually became more confident and motivated during the learning process. The teacher’s supportive and interactive approach also contributed to creating a more comfortable and positive atmosphere during the online classes. Scaffolding helped students understand the reading materials more easily while also encouraging them to become more active, confident, and involved during the online reading sessions. In addition, flexible and responsive teacher support was important in maintaining students’ academic and emotional engagement throughout the learning activities. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method in English learning at SDN Pesawahan 1, explore students' responses to the method, and identify challenges encountered during its implementation. This study used qualitative methods with a descriptive design. Participants consisted of one English teacher and 20 fourth-grade students at SDN Pesawahan 1, located in Pesawahan Village, Tiris District, Probolinggo Regency. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the TPR method was carried out through several stages, including providing verbal instructions, demonstrations of movements, students' physical responses, and repetition activities. The use of TPR created a more active and interactive classroom atmosphere. Most students responded positively to the method. They felt more enthusiastic, motivated, and interested in learning English through physical movements and games. This method also helped students understand and memorize English vocabulary more easily. However, several challenges were encountered during implementation, such as classroom management difficulties, differences in student comprehension, limited vocabulary mastery, and limited learning time. In conclusion, the Total Physical Response (TPR) method is effective in increasing student participation, motivation, and vocabulary comprehension in English learning at the elementary school level. Therefore, this method can be considered an alternative teaching strategy to create a more enjoyable and interactive English learning environment for early childhood students.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the implementation of the duolingo application in supporting english vocabulary learning and to identify the specific learning activities facilitated by the platform. Using a qualitative descriptive research design, the study involved 26 fifth-grade students at mi khilafiyah syafi'iyah zainul hasan genggong. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with the teacher and students. The results reveal that duolingo was successfully implemented through projector-based guided instruction, fostering a dynamic and enthusiastic classroom atmosphere. Six main types of vocabulary activities were identified: matching images, listening exercises, repetition, meaning recognition, vocabulary matching, and completing sentences. These activities utilized multimedia and gamification elements to enhance students' cognitive engagement and confidence. The study concludes that duolingo serves as an effective pedagogical tool to overcome attention span limitations and strengthen long-term memory through sensory-based repetition. For practitioners, integrating such digital media collectively is recommended to facilitate social interaction and meaningful learning experiences. Abstract

This research investigates the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on English language instruction in higher education, exploring both its potential benefits and challenges. A mixed-method approach was utilized, integrating survey data with in-depth interviews. The questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms through WhatsApp groups and personal networks to English lecturers. The study involved 16 English lecturers from both public and private universities in East Java. Analyzing the survey responses and interview transcripts revealed that AI technology presents both opportunities and obstacles in English language education. AI has brought significant changes to English instruction at the university level, with lecturers employing various AI tools for tasks such as generating and responding to questions, assessing grammatical accuracy, detecting plagiarism, paraphrasing, and conducting literature reviews. This research also underscores AI’s benefits in language education, particularly in grammar correction and plagiarism detection. However, alongside its advantages, AI also introduces new challenges for the future of English teaching. The effective integration of AI necessitates strong digital literacy skills. As AI technology continues to develop, there is a possibility that certain aspects of English teaching may become automated. Consequently, English lecturers need to continuously refine their digital skills to maintain their relevance in the evolving educational landscape.
