Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) is a medicinal plant that has long been used in traditional medicine to heal wounds and various other health conditions. This study aims to review the therapeutic benefits of Binahong in wound healing through an analysis of recent scientific literature. The method used in this research is a literature review, where data were collected from various scientific journals discussing the bioactive components and pharmacological effects of Binahong. The analysis results show that Binahong contains flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and analgesic activities. Flavonoids such as quercetin and kaempferol reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, while saponins enhance collagen production and tissue regeneration. Alkaloids provide analgesic effects that reduce pain in wounds. Clinical studies also indicate that topical application of Binahong extract accelerates wound healing and reduces the risk of infection.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the compliance of well water quality in Desa Kaliserayu Sientes with the regulations set forth in the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Regulation No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990 regarding the criteria and supervision of water quality. The method employed is descriptive, involving the measurement of potassium permanganate levels using the permanganometry technique. Data analysis was conducted to assess the organic matter content in well water in Desa Kaliserayu Sientis, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research findings indicate variations in organic matter content (expressed in KMnO4), with average values ranging from 10.70 to 46.60 mg/l. These findings suggest that some samples of well water in the area exceed the standard limits permitted by health regulations. The implications of these results underscore the importance of heightened attention to monitoring and managing the quality of well water in Desa Kaliserayu Sientis to safeguard public health and meet established water quality standards.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the types and characteristics of mangroves on Gantan Island and to evaluate the environmental conditions around the mangrove locations on the island. Mangrove samples were collected through exploration around Gantan Island by closely observing the various mangrove species, taking direct photographs of leaves, roots, flowers, and fruits, and then describing their characteristics. The research results indicate the presence of 11 plant species, including 6 true mangrove species such as Exoecaria agallocha, Xylocarpus granatum, Bruguiera gymnorhizza, Avicennia alba, Sonneratia caseolaris, and 3 associated mangrove species including Acanthus ilicifolius, Hibiscus tiliaceus, and Terminalia catappa. Additionally, non-mangrove plants like grasses and Casuarinaceae trees were also found. Some observation points, such as points 1 and 7 located directly along the open sea, experienced high sea erosion due to large waves, causing damage to the natural habitat. Local residents have undertaken reforestation efforts to restore the damaged habitat. Observation point 6 also experienced sea erosion as it is situated along a large river. Meanwhile, observation points 2, 3, 4, and 5 are still areas with pristine natural conditions in accordance with the mangrove perpendicular zone.

Abstract

Successful embryo culture is influenced by culture methods and conditions, which have an impact on cytoplasmic factors and the ability of embryo development. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two culture mediums, M16 and CZB, in supporting the development of DDY strain mice embryos in vitro. The research method used was an experimental study consisting of animal husbandry, medium culture preparation, superovulation, collection, and in vitro embryo culture. Data analysis in this study used descriptive statistical tests to measure embryo development in each culture medium, M16 and CZB, in observations for 96 hours with a 24-hour interval using an inverted microscope. The results showed that embryos in the CZB medium experienced 50% development of the expanded blastocyte stage after 96 hours of culture with 50% degenerative. In the M16 culture medium, 0% of embryos experienced embryonic stage development after 96 hours of culture and 100% were degenerative. This study has concluded that the development of embryos in vitro in the M16 culture medium was not better than CZB, this was evidenced by the percentage at the expanded blastocyte development stage.

Abstract

Microbial contamination in vegetables often originates from spraying or irrigation with contaminated water. Fertilization using animal manure can also lead to contamination, with bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli found in vegetables like lettuce. Samples were collected once from each traditional market, repeatedly taken from roadside stalls, inside the market, or from kiosks. Macroscopic colony characteristics on EMBA (Eosin Methylene Blue Agar) and SSA (Salmonella-Shigella Agar) media were observed after incubation, including colony shape, color, structure, and growth size or diameter. EMBA media cultures of E. coli on five vegetable samples from Pasar Melati, Pasar Sei Sikambing, and Pasar Kampung Lalang showed contamination in all five samples. SSA media cultures of Salmonella sp. on five vegetable samples from these markets revealed contamination in one sample. Gram staining of all samples identified Gram-negative bacteria, appearing red in color.
