Abstract

Objective: This study aims to collect data on the mandibular cortical thickness of the woman inhabitants in the Toraja tribe.Material and Methods: The subjects of this study that underwent panoramic radiography were vulnerable women aged 45-90 years from the Toraja tribe. The technique used to assess cortical thickness was the measurement Mental Index (MI) by panoramic radiography. Results: MI detected a reduction in bone mass density in elderly women using panoramic radiography. Conclusion: Osteoporosis can be detected by measuring the MI using panoramic radiographs. This has been developed to detect osteoporosis.

Abstract

Objective: Dental and oral health knowledge is one of the efforts to prevent and cope with dental and oral health problems. The target of this student creativity program is elementary school students in Kapopposang island from third grade to fifth grade.Material and Methods: The method of implementation of this activity is the presentation of data, preparation of implementation, implementation of activities, evaluation by using pretest-postest and preparing reports.Results: The average value data pre-test and post-test were analyzed using paired t test with SPSS 24 for Windows. The data shows significant results value p (0.000)< 0.05.Conclusion: The conclusion of this activity can be obtained that the Comic Eksis Cermin Si Imut is effective in increasing students knowledge of class III, IV, and V SDN 12 Kapopposang Island.

Abstract

Objective: To develop a device capable of distinguishing Oral squamous cell from other types of lesion so early diagnosis can be made non-invasively. Methods:The piezoelectric buzzer was coated with IgA EBV enzyme conjugate and antigen substance from Bionevan. The sensor was designed label free so further substance won’t be needed. The body of the device was made from white acrylic with 4mm thickness. The body was divided into 3 compartments each with different purpose. The main component consists of reagent coated piezoelectric buzzer and sensor. Both sensors are attached to Arduino UNO, breadboard, LIPO UBEC battery and LCD display network. The arduino UNO will read and process the difference between initial frequency and vibration frequency after the antigen were bind by the reagent, and shows the level of IgA in the LCD display.Results: The device worked and manage to show the level of IgA and presence of EBV in saliva but still need further improvement to make it more specific and validConclusion: Piezoelectric biosensor have shown promise to make early non-invasive diagnosis for OSCC

Abstract

Objective: This invention is to facilitate the work of the dentist in terms of examination and treatment, and increase the efficiency of time and reduce the risk of nosocomial infection.Material and Methods: The tool that used to clean debris and water that covered the mirror surface is a dental syringe which can spray water and air. But the use of dental syringe will reduce treatment effectiveness and time efficiency, it can even increase the risk of nosocomial infection.Results: The optimal pressure for this instrument to prevent and to clean stains on the mirror surface is between 2.5-4 bar (1 bar =0.1 MPa).Conclusion: The multifunctional prototype of dental mirror which is a combination of three dental instruments in one tool has been created using the 3D printing method

Abstract

Objective: To analyze saliva parameter such as salivary pH, total protein, buffer capacity, as well as sodium and potassium level on smoker and non smoker patients after exposed to intraoral radiography.Material and methods: This study was an observational study with cross-sectional design. Samples were smoker and non smoker patients who were referred to Dental Hospital Hasanuddin University. Saliva samples were taken by draining method. Samples were transferred immediately to Laboratory of Biochemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Science to be processed regarding saliva pH, saliva total protein, buffer capacity, as well as saliva sodium and potassium level. Saliva pH were measured with pH meter Hanna instruments, total protein with Lowry’s method, buffer capacity with Ericcson’s method, sodium and potassium level with atomic absorption spectrophotometer Parking Elmer A400. Data were then analyzed with statistical test Kolmogorov Smirnov, independent t-test, and oneway Anova with p<0.05 were considered statistically significant.Result: There were no significant difference on salivary pH, buffer capacity and potassium level between smoker group and non smoker group (p>0.05) before exposed to intraoral radiography, but we found significant difference on saliva total protein and sodium level between smoker and non smoker group (p<0.05) before radiography exposure. There were no significant change on salivary pH, total protein, buffer capacity, sodium and potassium level after exposed to intraoral radiography (p>0.05) on both smoker and non smoker group.Conclusion: Exposure of intraoral radiographs did not have significant effect on salivary pH, total protein, buffer capacity, as well as sodium and potassium level.

Abstract

Objectives : To analyze genotoxic and sitotoxic indicators of buccal epithelial cells by measuring the number of cells contain micronucleus, pycnosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis and to determine the change in oxidative stress of  oral mucosa cells using salivary MDA levels between smokers and nonsmokers before and after exposure to intraoral radiographs during endodontic treatment.Material and Methods : This research was an analytic observation research with cross-sectional design. The sample was divided into smokers (n = 5) and non-smokers group (n = 5). The buccal epithelial cells was taken with cytobrush and unstimulated saliva in each group were taken by the draining method shortly before intraoral radiography, 10±2 days after first  day exposure, 10±2 days after second day exposure. The cells were stained using Papanicolau (PAP) kit and observed by pathologist. Genotoxic and cytotoxic indicator measured by counted the number of cells contain mironucleus, pyknosis, karyorrhexis and karyolysis under light microscope with 400X magnification according to the Tolbert criteria in 1000 cells. While oxidative stress of cell measured by salivary MDA with Thiobarbitoric Acid (TBA) assay.Result : The number of micronucleus, pyknosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis in buccal epithelial cells and salivary MDA levels in smokers was higher than non-smokers (p<0,05). There were no significant differences in genotoxic and cytotoxic indicators and salivary MDA levels before and after the last exposure in smokers and non-smokers (p>0,05).Conclusion : The results of this study indicate that the use of intraoral radiographs is within safe limits despite repeated exposure after several days.

Abstract

Rongga mulut dapat memberikan kontribusi yang cukup berarti dalam bakteremia. Pada keadaan penurunan imunitas, Staphylococcus aureus biasanya terdapat di dalam mulut yang semula komensal, dapat berubah menjadi patogen sehingga dapat menyebabkan bakteremia dan infeksi sistemik dengan tanda-tanda yang khas seperti nekrosis, peradangan dan pembentukan abses. Ionic silver GT dapat membunuh bakteri patogen dengan melakukan penetrasi ke dalam membran sel bakteri, mengubah ikatan esensial protein dan DNA pada bakteri sehingga menjadi tidak stabil. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana daya hambat ionic silver GT terhadap S.aureus yang diisolasi dari pasien yang mengalami stomatitis. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa ionic silver GT pada konsentrasi 60% memperlihatkan daya hambat minimal, konsentrasi 80% daya hambatnya makin besar dan pada konsentrasi 100% memperlihatkan daya hambat yang paling besar. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ionic silver GT memiliki daya hambat yang baik terhadap S.aureus pada penderita stomatitis.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Enterococcus faecalis merupakan bakteri penyebab infeksi sekunder terbesar pada perawatan saluran akar. Selain itu, terdapat 57% bakteri Enterococcus faecalis pada subgingiva penderita periodontitis. Saat ini, bahan irigasi untuk membunuh Enterococcus faecalis masih sangat terbatas. Sehingga diperlukan bahan irigasi alternatif yang mudah didapatkan, ekonomis, biokompatibel, dan mampu mengurangi mikrobiota patogen.Tumbuhan patikala (Etlingeraelatior (Jack) R.M. S.m) merupakan rempah lokal kota Palopo, Sulawesi Selatan. Tumbuhan ini mengandung polifenol, flavonoid, dan saponin yang memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan: Mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak buah patikala terhadap bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Metodologi: Penelitian ini menggunakan eksperimental laboratorium dengan post-test only group design. Setelah pembuatan ekstrak buah patikala, dilakukan pengujian konsentrasi hambat minimal dengan konsentrasi 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% dan 35%. Uji efek antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi untuk membandingkan zona inhibisi ekstrak buah patikala pada berbagai konsentrasi dengan kontrol. Setiap kelompok dilakukan replikasi sebanyak 3 kali. Data dianalisis menggunakan uii one way Anova dan uji LSD. Hasil: Terdapat daya antibakteri ekstrak buah patikala pada berbagai konsentrasi terhadap Enterococcus faecalis. Uji one way Anova didapatkan nilai yang signifikan (P<0,05). Simpulan: Berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak buah patikala memiliki daya antibakteri terhadap Enterococcus faecalis dan berpotensi sebagai bahan irigasi alternatif.

Abstract

Periodontitis apikalis merupakan penyakit keradangan gigi yang sering dijumpai pada populasi penderita karies gigi yang tidak dirawat. Bakteri penyebab karies menginvasi pulpa, menginfeksi pada pulpa dan saluran akar, sehingga mengakibatkan gigi nekrosis. Perluasan radang ke pulpa dan saluran akar gigi dapat dimodifikasi oleh kemampuan patogenik dari plak atau faktor resistensi host. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pola pemetaan kuman pada saluran akar dengan pulpa terbuka pada pasien periodontitis apikalis. Sampel diperoleh dari pasien di Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Hasanuddin dan dilakukan identifikasi kuman pada Laboratorium Biologi Molekuler dan Imunologi Departemen Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin. Dari 161 sampel distribusi kuman Porphyromonas gingivalis (52), Streptococcus (47), Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (31), Pseudomonas (9), Staphylococcus (11), Klebsiela pneumonia (5), Escherichia colli (2), Alkaligines fascialis (2), Candida albicans, dan Enterobacter aerogenus (2). Disimpulkan bahwa bakteri Gram-negatif mendominasi flora yang dikultur dari sampel saluran akar terbuka dengan periodontitis apikalis.

Abstract

Osteoporosis merupakan penyakit degeneratif metabolik yang ditandai dengan pengurangan massa tulang dan berisiko terjadi fraktur sehingga mengakibatkan kehilangan kemandirian dan mobilitas. Insiden osteoporosis meningkat sejalan dengan meningkatnya usia harapan hidup. Penulisan makalah ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui peranan LDL terhadap penurunan densitas mineral tulang sehingga diharapkan LDL yang merupakan uji laboratorium sederhana dapat digunakan sebagai penanda untuk memprediksi penurunan densitas mineral tulang. Metode yang digunakan untuk menilai penurunan densitas mineral tulang adalah dengan menggunakan dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), sedang pengukuran LDL dengan metode fotometri menggunakan Pentra 400. Hiperkolestronemia telah dikaitkan dengan penurunan densitas mineral tulang. Tingginya kadar kolesterol LDL dapat menyebabkan osteoporosis, dengan aktifnya suatu molekul receptor activator of nuclear faktor kappa β ligan (RANKL) yang dikeluarkan oleh sel imun tubuh. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kolesterol LDL yang tinggi dapat meningkatkan aktivitas selular dalam kehilangan massa tulang yang terlihat pada osteoporosis. Produk oksidasi LDL (oxLDL) mempunyai efek toksik terhadap osteoblas dengan menyebabkan apoptosis osteoblas dan menghambat diferensiasi preosteoblas yang mengakibatkan berkurangnya mineralisasi tulang. Hal Ini menunjukan adanya hubungan antara lipid dan metabolisma tulang. Disimpulkan bahwa LDL akan mengaktivasi pembentukan, fungsi dan diferensiasi osteoklas yang terlibat dalam remodeling tulang penyebab penurunan densitas mineral tulang pada osteoporosis.
