Abstract

The learning model used by educators is expected to have an impact on student learning outcomes. This class action research (CAR) aims to implement the problem based learning (PBL) learning model on student learning outcomes in biology class X.1 at SMA Negeri 1 Palembang so that it can improve the quality of learning through giving action to students. Classroom action research carried out by the author, namely as many as three cycles. The results of this class action research (CAR) were that in the first cycle the implementation of the problem-based learning model did not affect the learning outcomes of students because 85% of students obtained grades ≤70 and 15% of students who managed to achieve scores of ≥70. Furthermore, in cycle II there was an increase in learning outcomes in the previous cycle 56% of students scored ≤70 and 44% of students who managed to get scores ≥70. And in the third cycle, 15% of students scored ≤70. and 85% of students who managed to score ≥70. From the data of cycles I, II, and III, there was an increase in student learning outcomes, so in class action research (CAR), it was stated that the problem-based learning model could affect student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Fibrous dysplasia is a benign developmental disorder that affects the craniofacial bones among the mandibular bones and is characterized by enlargement as a result of bone being replaced by abnormal fibrous tissue growth. Two types, monostotic or polyostotic lesions, cause a progressively expanding bone lamp, producing cosmetic deformities and functional impairments. Frequently occurs in the posterior region of the mandible bone and is usually unilateral. The etiology of Fibrous dysplasia is not clear but is usually associated with genetic factors. The diagnosis of this deformity is based on clinical, radiological, and histopathological examination. Case Report: A 16-year-old male patient came to the Oral and Maxillofacial Department at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, complaining of a lump in his left lower jaw. The patient complained of a lump that had enlarged in the last 7 years, which caused facial asymmetry. Extraoral examination showed facial asymmetry of the mandibular bone; intraoral examination found a lump with a hard consistency, an elevated vestibule, and no ulceration. Computed tomography (CT) imaging showed a solid mass in the left mandibular area with endosteal scalloping. We planned to remove the hyperplastic bone of the mandible with surgical reshaping. Conclusion: Treatment of this case was challenging because the normal anatomic shape of the mandible bone was hard to achieve. In adolescents, facial asymmetry could occur after surgery because they are still in the growth stage. In this case, we were able to obtain a good prognosis for the patient by removing hyperplastic bone and reconstructing facial deformities

Abstract

Differentiated learning is a form of effort in a series of learning that pays attention to the needs of students in terms of learning readiness, student learning profiles, interests and talents. So through differentiation learning carried out by educators it is hoped that they can achieve the target of fulfilling the independent curriculum, namely giving freedom to students of different religions to develop their talents and interests and produce a profile of Pancasila students who are targeted in this independent curriculum. In terms of differentiated learning, it can be in accordance with the philosophy of thought according to Ki Hajar Dewantara which states that education "guides" the nature of each student so that he is able to achieve the highest safety and happiness as a human being or a member in a society. In this case the educator acts as a facilitator who can provide direction so that the student does not lose his way and can become a complete human being.

Abstract

Introduction: Necrotizing fasciitis is an infection with very rapid progress affected subcutaneous tissue, spread to the fascia lead to subcutaneous blood vessels thrombosis. Hence, caused necrosis of skin. Frequently polymicrobial, caused by β-haemolytic bacteria such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus spp. and obligate anaerobes. Necrotizing fasciitis due to fungal infection is a rare case, only five cases were recently reported where Candida albicans was identified as necrotizing fasciitis microorganism Case Report: A 51 years old male patient was referred to Emergency Room at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung complaints of swelling accompanied by pain in the left cheek extended to eye and neck, with clinical features shown necrosis of the skin, fluctuations and crepitations. The patient was diagnosed as necrotizing fasciitis. The patient has a history of systemic disease which is diabetes mellitus type 2 with hyponatremia and chronic kidney disease. The patient performed necrotomy debridement and incision drainage at submental, temporal and bukal region in general anaesthesia, then followed by wound care with modern dressings. Bacteria culture shown the growth of C.albicans Conclusion: Necrotizing fasciitis caused by C. albicans is a rare case. Several factors that can increase Candida virulence lead to invasive soft tissue infections, the importance was anti-fungal therapy in necrotizing fasciitis beside broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy of this case. Additionally, postoperative wound care was necessary for encourage wound healing

Abstract

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are multifactorial birth defects, and the etiology behind their occurrence remains insufficiently understood. This case-control study aimed to investigate the association between residential environmental factors, parental lifestyle, and the risk of CLP in Indonesia. A total of 213 participants from 14 provinces were selected using stratified random sampling. Multivariable logistic regression was employed to determine the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for each risk factor. The study identified significant associations between several residential environmental factors and CLP. Proper kitchen ventilation was found to be protective (OR = 0.245, 95% CI: 0.096–0.624, p = 0.003), while proximity to industrial sites significantly increased the risk (OR = 3.595, 95% CI: 1.029–12.558, p = 0.045). Additionally, using treated drinking water showed a protective effect (OR = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.16–0.95, p = 0.038), whereas concerns about water sources displayed a marginally significant risk increase (OR = 2.841, 95% CI: 0.876–9.211, p = 0.082). Regarding parental lifestyle factors, maternal active smoking exhibited a marginal protective association (OR = 0.052, 95% CI: 0.002–1.09, p = 0.057), while paternal passive smoking presented a marginally significant risk (OR = 2.309, 95% CI: 0.897–5.942, p = 0.083). Furthermore, paternal radiation exposure was associated with an elevated risk of CLP (OR = 3.489, 95% CI: 0.828–14.703, p = 0.089). These findings highlight the need for targeted public health interventions to mitigate environmental exposures and promote safer parental lifestyle behaviors in Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: Labioplasty is a surgical approach to reconstructs and repairs the cleft lip defect. The main purpose of this study is to observe the performance result of labioplasty through out the period of January till December 2007 according to the comprehensive assessment performed by Indonesian Cleft Center Team. Other purpose is to determine the least and the most complicated structure to be reconstructed in labioplasty. Apart from that, types of secondary reconstructive surgery, how many patients require and implement this secondary surgery are determined in this study. Methods: The method used for this study was descriptive retrospective which in the sample are post-labioplasty patients that came for assessment. With astounding years of experience, Indonesian Cleft Center Team is expected able to handle every case judiciously regarding its clinical severity. Results: Result shows that the performance result of labioplasty does not necessarily coincided with the severity of the cases. The most complicated structure to be reconstructed in labioplasty is Cupid’s bow whilst the least complicated are the thickness of vermilion and avoidance to create cicatrix. Conclusion: Type of secondary reconstructive indicated for the patient to repair the remaining deformities are secondary lip repair, rhinoplasty, fistula closure and bone graft. The amount of patient that is indicated for it is in total 25 patients and only 1 patient implemented the surgery.
