Abstract

This study aims to; identify the diversity, uniformity, and dominance of Macrozoobenthos in the Bah Biak River area, Pematangsiantar City, North Sumatra Province. This study used a combination of two transect methods, namely line transects and quadrat transects. Determination of the research location using Purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results of the study showed that there were 3 species of Macrozoobenthos consisting of 2 classes with a total of 67,35% individuals. The diversity of Macrozoobenthos in the Bah Barambang River, Pematangsiantar City, North Sumatra Province is classified as moderate with a diversity index of H' = 0,71 – 0,73, the evenness index is classified as low ranging from 0,51 – 0,53 and the dominance index is classified as low. Keywords:  Macrozoobenthos, River, Diversity Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk; Untuk mengidentifikasi keanekaragaman, keseragaman dan dominansi Makrozoobenthos pada kawasan Sungai Barambang Kota Pematangsiantar Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan kombinasi dua metode transek yaitu transek garis dan transek kuadrat. Penentuan lokasi penelitian menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Analisis data menggunakan analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa terdapat 3 spesies Makrozoobenthos yang terdiri dari 2 kelas dengan jumlah keseluruhan 67,35% individu. Keanekaragaman Makrozoobenthos di Sungai Bah Barambang Kota Pematangsiantar Provinsi Sumatera Utara tergolong sedang dengan indeks keanekaragaman H' = 0,71 – 0,73, indeks keseragaman rendah berkisar antara 0,51 – 0,53 dan indeks dominansi rendah. Kata Kunci: Makrozoobentos, Sungai, Keanekaragaman.

Abstract

Tujuan Kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat Desa Togu Domu Nauli tentang pentingnya menjaga kelestarian sumber air bagi keberlangsungan hidup. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk penyuluhan partisipatif secara ilmiah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai pentingnya menjaga sumber air. Desa ini berada di kawasan hulu sungai-sungai kecil yang bermuara ke Danau Toba. Oleh karena itu, pelestarian lingkungan di desa ini berdampak langsung terhadap kualitas air dan keberlanjutan ekosistem Danau Toba. Upaya menjaga sumber mata air dan mencegah pencemaran sangat relevan dalam konteks konservasi kawasan Danau Toba. Sungai-sungai kecil yang berhulu dari desa ini secara langsung atau tidak langsung menyuplai air ke Danau Toba melalui sistem hidrologi alami. Danau Toba yang merupakan sumber air bagi masyarakat, pertanian, dan perikanan. Jika sumber air dari hulu seperti di Togu Domu Nauli tercemar oleh limbah rumah tangga, pestisida, atau limbah ternak, maka akan terjadi penurunan Kualitas air Danau Toba, Produktivitas perikanan berkurang, Terjadi eutrofikasi, dan Risiko gangguan kesehatan meningkat. Kegiatan edukasi kepada masyarakat Desa Togu Domu Nauli mengenai pentingnya menjaga kualitas sumber air telah memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang hubungan antara perilaku manusia dan keberlanjutan lingkungan. Warga diharapkan mampu mengidentifikasi potensi masalah pencemaran serta mengambil langkah nyata dalam melindungi mata air sebagai sumber kehidupan. Sebagai wilayah hulu yang berkontribusi terhadap ekosistem Danau Toba, Desa ini memiliki peran strategis dalam menjaga keseimbangan lingkungan regional. Oleh karena itu, kesadaran dan partisipasi aktif masyarakat dalam pelestarian sumber air bukan hanya penting bagi keberlangsungan hidup lokal, tetapi juga berkontribusi terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan yang lebih luas.

Abstract

The most crucial aspect of managing an ecosystem or habitat is knowledge about accompanying biota, such as snails. The research on mangrove snails in the KPH Region III Aceh City of Langsa area was conducted in November 2021 with the goal of evaluating species diversity, density, ecological index, distribution, and their link to surrounding environmental conditions. Snail data was obtained via quadrat transects, with observation stations established using purposive sampling.The snail diversity was found to be five species from four families, with the highest density found in N. planospira (03.13 ind/m2). The diversity index was low (H' ‰¤ 2.0), dominance was moderate (0.5 < C ‰¤ 0.75), and uniformity tended to be balanced (0.5 < E ‰¤ 0.75). The distribution pattern is clustered (Iδ> 1), with C. cingulata being abundant (83.33%), and C. capucinus being frequently found (50.00%), N. planospiraonly found occasionally (36.11%), and L. scabra and T. telescopium are relatively uncommon (11.11% and 0.56%, respectively), with a link to environmental variables indicating that T. telescopium prefers fine mud substrates. Meanwhile, C. cingulata, C. capucinus, L. scabra, and N. planospiralive in habitats with fine mud substrates that are more solid than T. telescopiums habitats.

Abstract

Sigapiton Village, located in the Ajibata District of Toba Regency, North Sumatra, is situated on the shores of Lake Toba and covers an area of 70.80 km² (BPS, 2018). The village possesses various potentials that can be developed from both human and natural resources. The objective of the KPPM UHKBPNP group's work program in Sigapiton is to create resting areas for the residents, allowing them to take a moment to rest while engaging in their activities.

Abstract

Cengkeh merupakan komoditas perkebunan penting di Kecamatan Ronggurnihuta, namun proses pengeringan tradisional yang mengandalkan sinar matahari sering terkendala cuaca, menyebabkan penurunan kualitas dan harga jual. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan kualitas cengkeh petani melalui pelatihan dan implementasi penggunaan mesin pengering cengkeh bertenaga gas LPG. Mesin ini menawarkan solusi efisien dan konsisten, tidak terpengaruh kondisi cuaca, sehingga proses pengeringan dapat berlangsung optimal. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi sosialisasi teknologi pengeringan modern, demonstrasi operasional mesin pengering, serta pendampingan langsung kepada kelompok petani terpilih. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan petani dalam mengoperasikan alat, serta kesadaran akan pentingnya pengeringan cengkeh yang terkontrol. Diharapkan pelatihan ini dapat memberdayakan petani lokal, mengurangi ketergantungan pada cuaca, dan pada akhirnya meningkatkan nilai ekonomi cengkeh di wilayah Ronggurnihuta. Implementasi teknologi sederhana ini berpotensi menjadi model bagi pengembangan komoditas pertanian lain di daerah pedesaan, mendukung keberlanjutan ekonomi masyarakat.

Abstract

Tanjung Seri Village is a village in Laut Tador District, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The residents of Tanjung Seri Village are fish farmers, farmers, and traders. The national potential for aquaculture is estimated at 17.92 million hectares, including 2.83 million hectares of freshwater aquaculture. Feed that meets fish nutritional needs can improve the growth of fish fry to marketable size. The Tanser SPN Bersama community group and the Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) team discussed the problems experienced by their partners, thus forming conclusions about the problems to be resolved, namely in the areas of production and management. Community partnership empowerment activities for productive economic partners, namely the gourami farmer group, namely: TANSER SPN BERSAMA are carried out in 5 stages in implementing the solutions offered, namely socialization, training, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation and application of technology. The results of the evaluation of the gourami fish business evaluation training program show that 10% have understood the outline of the evaluation of catfish farming management business, after the training, 100% of community groups know catfish farming management, there is an increase of 90% from the 10 respondents recorded.

Abstract

Infections caused by Salmonella typhi remain a serious global health problem, particularly due to the increasing bacterial resistance to conventional antibiotics. Therefore, the search for effective natural antibacterial sources is urgently needed. Rhizophora apiculata, a mangrove plant known to contain various bioactive compounds, has the potential to be an alternative antibacterial source. This study aims to identify the phytochemical content in R. apiculata fruit extract and evaluate its antibacterial activity against S. typhi using the disc diffusion method and bacterial cell morphology analysis via SEM. The phytochemical screening results revealed that the extract contains phenolics, tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids. However, saponins and steroids were not detected. The antibacterial activity test showed that the extract at a concentration of 250 mg/mL significantly (p < 0.05) inhibited the growth of S. typhi, with the largest inhibition zone (11.6 mm). SEM observations supported this finding by showing a decrease in the number of bacterial cells at extract concentrations of 125 mg/mL and 250 mg/mL, where the highest concentration caused the most bacterial cell death. This study demonstrates the potential of R. apiculata fruit extract as an effective natural antibacterial source for the development of alternative treatments for S. typhi infections
