Abstract

Pregnancy involves normal physiological changes that are often accompanied by psychological responses, one of which is anxiety, particularly during the third trimester. Unmanaged anxiety, combined with limited support from the husband or family, may negatively affect maternal and fetal health, the childbirth process, and the postpartum period. This study aimed to identify anxiety early and implement appropriate midwifery interventions to prevent potential complications. A descriptive case study with an observational approach was conducted on Mrs. “A” (G2P1A0), starting at 36 weeks of gestation and continuing through labor, the postpartum period, newborn care, and contraceptive counseling. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (T-MAS). Midwifery interventions included health education, counseling, therapeutic communication, prenatal yoga exercises, and breathing relaxation techniques. Prior to the intervention, the T-MAS score indicated moderate anxiety, mainly influenced by limited spousal presence and insufficient family support. Anxiety increased during labor due to the indication for cesarean section, and during the postpartum period due to family pressure related to infant feeding practices. After structured and continuous interventions, anxiety levels decreased to a mild category. The pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period proceeded without complications. These findings indicate that early psychological screening combined with holistic midwifery care is effective in reducing anxiety and supporting maternal and neonatal well-being.

Abstract

Dyspareunia, or pain during sexual intercourse, is common among perimenopausal women, negatively affecting their quality of life, sexual satisfaction, and relationships. Limited observational data exists on non-pharmacological self-management strategies for pain relief, particularly in Indonesia. This study examines the associations between three self-management strategies—vaginal lubricants, enhanced foreplay, and couple communication—and the reduction of dyspareunia pain in Indonesian perimenopausal women. A cross-sectional study involving 63 women (aged 40–55) with dyspareunia who had used at least one self-management strategy for at least four weeks was conducted at Puskesmas Cimahi Utara, Cimahi, Indonesia, from January 2024 to June 2024. Participants were divided into four groups: lubricants (n=14), foreplay (n=30), communication (n=8), and combined approaches (n=11). Pain intensity was assessed using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Pre-strategy scores were obtained retrospectively, and post-strategy scores reflected current pain levels. Welch ANOVA and Games-Howell post-hoc tests analyzed mean pain reduction across groups. Significant differences in pain reduction were found among the groups (F(3.59)=24.36, p<0.001, η2=0.553). Lubricants showed the greatest reduction in pain (mean=1.86±0.95 points; 95% CI=1.30–2.41), significantly more than communication (p=0.0295, Cohen's d=0.68) and approaching significance compared to foreplay (p=0.0542, Cohen's d=0.68). All groups reported statistically significant pain reductions. In conclusion, vaginal lubricant use led to the greatest reduction in self-management strategies for dyspareunia pain among perimenopausal women in Indonesia, outperforming enhanced and foreplay couple communication strategies.

Abstract

Baby massage is a form of stimulus given by the midwife to stimulate the baby's gross motor development. Several internal and external factors can affect gross motor development in infants. This study uses a quantitative research design, which uses the one group pretest-posttest design method, namely one intervention group without a control group, with a total of 17 infants as respondents, after 4 massages in 1 month an assessment using KPSP was carried out. The results of the T-test showed an increase in the appropriate category, while in the decreasing category there was a decrease in the value of sig. 0.018 and <0.05, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected, so there is an effect of baby massage on the baby's gross motor development.

Abstract

Good nutrition is a very important factor in the first two years of a child's life because it can reduce the risk of chronic disease, reduce morbidity, and can encourage better overall development, one of which is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding can also prevent the death of more than 820,000 children under the age of five every year. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the knowledge of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding in the group that was given booklets and leaflets as the control group. This research is a pre-experimental study with a posttest only control group design. The population in this study were pregnant women in the working area of the Batujajar Health Center with a total of 497 pregnant women. The sample in this study were 30 pregnant women. The analysis in this study used an unpaired t test. The results showed that there was no difference in the knowledge of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding in the group that was given booklets and leaflets with p = 0.566 > 0.05. It is recommended for public health centre B to use booklets and leaflets as media for health promotion in according to conditions and needs of the local community

Abstract

Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) supports thermoregulation, breastfeeding, and physiological adaptation in low birth weight (LBW) infants. This study evaluated changes in body weight following a seven-day KMC program in the Neonatal Unit of Bayu Asih General Hospital, Purwakarta, from January to February 2026. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used with total sampling of 15 stable LBW infants. Most infants were born at 35 or 36 weeks of gestation (5 infants [33.3%] in each gestational age group). Mothers performed nurse-supervised KMC for 1–2 hours daily. Infant body weight was measured using a calibrated digital scale before the intervention and on day 7. The mean baseline body weight was 1,625.0 ± 152.4 g, with a median of 1,550 g. After KMC, the mean body weight increased to 1,805.3 ± 169.9 g, with a median of 1,725 g. The mean weight gain was 180.3 g, the median difference was 175 g, the relative increase was 11.3%, and the average daily weight gain was approximately 25 g/day. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-intervention body weight (p = 0.001). An exact paired 95% confidence interval and rank-based effect size could not be calculated because the retained analysis output did not include the standard deviation of the paired differences or the Wilcoxon Z statistic. Kangaroo Mother Care was associated with short-term body weight gain in stable LBW infants. However, causal interpretation should be made cautiously because of the absence of a control group and the potential influence of unmeasured feeding practices and other co-interventions.

Abstract

Evidence on the role of husband support in maternal mental health remains limited in community-based midwifery services in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the relationship between husband support and maternal mental health among pregnant women attending independent midwifery practices in Cimahi City and to explore the psychosocial mechanisms underlying this relationship. A convergent mixed-methods design was employed, involving 72 pregnant women for the quantitative component and 20 participants for in-depth qualitative interviews. Husband support, antenatal anxiety, and emotional wellbeing were assessed using validated questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. Husband support was significantly associated with lower antenatal anxiety and higher emotional wellbeing and remained an independent predictor of maternal mental health after controlling for maternal age, education, parity, and economic status. Descriptive findings indicated that a considerable proportion of participants experienced moderate to severe antenatal anxiety. Qualitative analysis identified emotional presence, shared responsibility, and affirmation of maternal identity as key mechanisms through which husband support strengthened maternal coping capacity. These findings demonstrate that husband support serves as an important protective psychosocial factor for maternal mental health. Integrating family empowerment strategies into routine antenatal care may improve psychological wellbeing and strengthen community-based maternal health services.
