Abstract

Tea is a type of plant that is popular as a drink. In general, based on the processing method, tea can be classified into three types, namely green tea, olong tea and black tea. The aim of this research is to find out whether there is an effect of tooth coloring on people who consume black tea. The method used is literature study to find theoretical references that are relevant to the cases or problems found. The data used comes from journals, scientific literature, rivew, which contains tooth coloring sheets in people who consume black tea. The results of the research show that there is a relationship between public knowledge and tooth coloring. The conclusion is that the effect of tooth coloring on people who consume black tea is due to the lack of public knowledge about the content of black tea which contains a lot of tannins, which can cause teeth to change color from brown to black.

Abstract

Periodontal disease can be caused by plaque bacteria. The plaque layer on the surface of the teeth is a biofilm containing an accumulation of microorganisms, including pathogenic bacteria, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Bromelain is an enzyme produced by pineapples (Ananas comosus L.Merr) and is found in higher concentrations in the core. The ability of bromelain to break down proteins inhibits the formation of bacterial cell membranes. Objective: To determine the antibacterial activity of pineapple core extract (Ananas comosus L. Merr) against Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Research Method: This study is an in vitro laboratory experimental study. The study design used was a post-test only control group design. The study sample was Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans bacteria obtained from the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, Surabaya. Results : The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value was 0.78%, and the Minimum Bacterial Concentration (MBC) value was 6.25%. Conclusion: The pineapple stem extract (Ananas comosuis L. Meirr) exhibits potential antibacterial activity against the bacterial strain Aggregatibacterium actinomycetemcomitans.

Abstract

Perception of oral hygiene has a major impact on life expectancy worldwide, but in middle-income countries it is a problem, where oral health problems in Indonesia affect as much as 57.6% of the population. A semi-experimental study was conducted on October 30, 2024 on students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School, Kediri City, East Java, Indonesia. The study method was carried out offline (face-to-face) using a mixture of presentation media (power point) and booklets. The socialization participants were divided into two parts: pre-socialization (pre-test) and post-socialization (post-test). The socialization participants were given questions to assess their knowledge and perceptions of oral health before and after the socialization. Participants' knowledge was classified as sufficient, moderate, and low in understanding oral hygiene before and after the socialization. This counseling was carried out as part of a collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of the Bhakti Wiyata Institute of Health Sciences (IIK) and the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of the University of Sains Malaysia (USIM). This counseling aims to improve dental health knowledge of students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School so that it is hoped that it can reduce the DMF-t rate in students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School. Keywords: Dental health; Oral health; Elementary school students; Faculty of Dentistry Institute Health Science Bhakti Wiyata; Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Abstract

Perception of oral hygiene has a major impact on life expectancy worldwide, but in middle-income countries it is a problem, where oral health problems in Indonesia affect as much as 57.6% of the population. A semi-experimental study was conducted on February 21, 2025 on students at SMAN 1, SMAN  2, and Pondok Pesantren Mathlabul Ulum Jambu in Sumenep Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The average score for participants before the socialization was 60.66, and after the socialization it was 86.71. These results were significantly different with a p-value of 0.000 using the Wilcoxon statistical test. These data show that there is a positive role for dentists in improving dental and oral health in the environment of high school students so that dentists can play an active role in encouraging patients to pay more attention to dental and oral health awareness, especially for SMAN 1 and 2 in Sumenep Regency, East Java.
