Traditional wedding ceremony legacy helps people to understand their own history, traditions and family better. Marriage is considered as one of the important stages in human life, for a new family will be formed as the next generation in the family. It is also necessary to hold a traditional wedding ceremony since it is the very first beginning to entering the next level of the life cycles for Javanese people. Traditional wedding ceremony is still popular over generations whilst it actually lives and remains amongst the society and becomes valuable cultural experience for the people. People not only celebrate the party but also make the nostalgic moments, which sometimes spark a conflict between generations. This research would describe about how communication contributes its influence in accommodating the generation gap to improve a relationship bonding, especially through the traditional wedding ceremony. In accommodating the generation gap, the communication focuses on the patterns of convergence in communication behaviours. The constructivist paradigm was applied to describe the phenomenon on the Javanese family in absorbing the traditional wedding ceremony as the legacy of the family. The qualitative methods were used to collect data by participant observation and the sampling was purposive sampling. This study found out that that accommodation can resolve the problem between generations and make their interaction as a harmonious interaction. There are surely so many differences amongst generations, such as attitudes, focus, and priorities, the lack of willingness in providing information and doing the voluntary disclosure become another issues in the interaction. However, during the traditional wedding ceremony moments, the communication experiences teaches more than just values and conventions. It also shows moral virtues, generosity, hospitality, love, respect, and the soul of the tradition itself which accommodates the generation gap.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to show the misrepresentation of minority groups, specifically widowed women (hereinafter referred to as janda) in the era of convergence of media content (television as well as streaming and social media) in Indonesia. Media as the fourth pillar of democracy are supposed to inform and represent everything in a balanced and fair manner, instead of favoring the interests of the majority. The question we attempt to answer is: how the misrepresentation of janda on converged media content (FTVs) in a patriarchal society? Methods: This study applied feminist perspective in media convergence as well as the narrative analysis of Chatman.Findings: In general, the results of the study show that the convergence has not been in favor of janda, indicating that internet technology does not only strengthen the gender-biased values of media industry person in massively distributing FTVs (via streaming and social media) that threaten minorities, but also ignores the opposing feedback from netizens. As a result, the minority groups are increasingly muted. Reproduction of labelling of janda is a strategy of media owners to obtain maximum profits.Originality: We noted many studies on janda conducted from various scientific perspectives. However, studies that observe the depiction of janda in the media convergence in the perspective of communication studies are scarce. This study provides a discussion on the representation of janda in the vortex of capitalism in media convergence as the major novelty in this line of study.

Abstract

This research departs from the challenges and adaptation processes undertaken by international students from Indonesia. The research aims to provide a deep understanding of the scholarship alumni in Europe’s academic life during their studies. This research adopts a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative case study approach. The data collection in this research uses purposive sampling techniques with in-depth interviews and the data analysis uses thematic analysis. The subjects are European university alumni from Indonesia who have completed their studies within the past 5 years. There are four themes: study abroad fantasies, a touch of foreign cultures, academic problems and challenges, and academic strategies or solutions. There are also problems and challenges encountered such as academic constraints, stress, and weather. Scholarship alumni in Europe have strategies to adapt, such as traveling while studying, self-management, having a support system, and establishing social interaction with Indonesians. The findings and results can become a foundation document for donors, sponsors, scholarship providers, and the Indonesian Embassy in European countries in creating strategic programs as a provision for students in their studies.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of environmental degradation caused by urbanization and groundwater exploitation in North Pekalongan, which has triggered flooding, tidal inundation, and permanent waterlogging in 30% of the area. These conditions increase the vulnerability of female batik artisans in social, economic, and environmental aspects, threatening the sustainability of batik production. Using qualitative methods and an exploratory mixed approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, surveys, and analyses such as overlay, indices, and SWOT. The findings show that: 1) Environmental degradation in Pekalongan City involves wetland conversion, land subsidence from soil deterioration and groundwater overuse, mangrove loss, and limited green spaces, all leading to flooding; 2) Female batik artisans face increased vulnerability and reduced resilience; 3) Stakeholders address these issues through government flood control measures, NGO sanitation projects, climate adaptation groups, and academic data support; 4) Sustainable resilience strategies prioritize offensive approaches, such as home elevation, empowering artisans, and leveraging external opportunities. The recommended sustainable resilience strategy is offensive, optimally leveraging internal strengths and external opportunities.
