Abstract

Background: Inflammation is a normal protective response to tissue injury caused by physical trauma, chemicals, or microbiological substances. The manifestation clinic of inflammation is pain. Miana leaves (Coleus atropurpureus Benth.) have chemical contents such as essential oils, phenols, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Flavonoids can protect lipid membranes from damage and inhibit cyclooxygenase, which is the first pathway for the synthesis of pain mediators such as prostaglandins. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ethanol extract of Miana leaves (Coleus atropurpureus Benth) (EEML) as analgesic and anti-inflammatory in rats (Rattus novergicus). Material and Methods: This study used The Pre-Posttest-Only Control Group Design, twenty male rats were divided into 5 groups namely negative control, positive control was given diclofenac sodium, treatment with EEML dose of 150 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 600 mg/kgBW. Test of Antiinflammatory uses the Rat Hind Paw Edema method where the condition of inflammation in rats is induced with 5% egg white by subplantar. The measurement of edema in rat feet used a caliper every 30 minutes for 5 hours. While The measurement of analgesic testing used the method of nociception test which evaluates pain responses such as Staggering Gait, Vocalization, and Writhing. Results: The results of the measurement of the inflammatory parameters were analyzed with the One Way Anova test for the width of edema foot and Kruskal Walis for the thickness of edema foot. While the results of observing the pain response were analyzed with the Kruskal Walis test. Conclusions: This study concluded that the ethanol extract of Miana leaves has anti-inflammatory analgesic especially at a dose of 600 mg/kg BW which results are non-significant (p> 0.05) with a positive control group (sodium diclofenac).

Abstract

Fameflower Leaves (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq) Gaertn) are medicinal plants that communities have traditionally used due to their active compounds, such as saponins, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenes, sterols, and polyphenols found in both the leaves and roots. This study aimed to determine the dose of ethanol extract of fameflower leaves affecting the histology of the spleen in male rats (Rattus norvegicus) following ovalbumin antigen stimulation, as well as to observe changes in the spleen tissue structure after the extract treatment. The study used 20 Wistar rats divided into four groups. The rats were first adapted for 2 weeks and then fasted for 8 hours before the treatment—a group I served as the standard control. Group II was induced with ovalbumin antigen. Groups III and IV were induced with the antigen, and the ethanol extract of fameflower leaves was administered at doses of 0.4g/kgBW and 0.8g/kgBW, respectively. The extract was administered orally for 7 days to the test animals. On day 8, the test animals were sacrificed, and their spleens were harvested for histological preparation using the Hematoxylin-Eosin staining method. Microscopic observation showed no histological damage in the spleen, such as inflammation, degeneration, congestion, hemorrhage, or necrosis. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Bugis Ginseng leaves did not affect the spleen of rats at doses of 0.4g/kgBW and 0.8g/kgBW

Abstract

Smoking is one of the main risk factors for several chronic diseases that can result in death, so it can be a big problem for public health. Educational activities about the dangers of smoking for health were given to Aliyah students at the An-Nahdlah Islamic Boarding School in Makassar with a total of 40 participants. The aim of this activity is to increase students' awareness of the bad effects of smoking on health. This activity method begins with filling out a pre-test knowledge questionnaire about the dangers of smoking, which is then continued with counseling by the resource person and completing the post-test questionnaire again. The results of filling out the questionnaire after the counseling had increased, namely 90% of students understood the bad effects of smoking. During the counseling, students were very enthusiastic in listening to the presenters, so it is hoped that this activity will be encouraged, especially in the world of education.
