Abstract

Vitamin C is a vitamin that is water soluble and one vitamin that is needed by the body. To meet the intake of vitamin C needed source of vitamin a derived from fruits, one of which is Appel Part of the appel , which is still rarely used is its skin. Apple peel is very beneficial for health however the situation is only considered as waste that has not been utilized well. This study aims to determine the levels of vitamin C on the skin of the Apple (Pyrus mallus L)  by the method of spectrofotometry uv-visible wavelength 243 nm. This research uses experiments with purely research stage comprised sample preparation, qualitative test, making the solution of the parent raw, quantitative test, determination of wavelength of maximum vitamin and creation of calibration surve. Based on the research that has been done, the result of the qualitative test to prove the presence of high content of vitamin C contained in appel peels, with the highest level obtained in the skin of the plantain by 13,534 mg/g extract

Abstract

Asian tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) shell is an industrial waste which becomes one of the sources of carotenoids in the form of astaxanthin (3.3’-dihydroxy-β, β′-carotene-4.4′-dione) which has a very potential biological activity because it can work on target molecules. Astaxanthin in Asian tiger shrimp shell is well known to be lipophilic, being insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents, one of which acetonitrile. The characteristics of astaxanthin were obtained through qualitative and quantitative analyses using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red) and HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). Furthermore, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities had been tested. Based on the research results done on the inhibition of Asian tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon ) shell extract on the 5th growth of the test bacteria, the tiger shrimp shell extract had antibacterial activity on Eschericia coli., Streptococcus mutans, Pseudomans auriginosa, Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus which was characterized by the presence of clear zone / inhibition zone / Oligodynamic zone which showed the effect of tiger shrimp shell extract in killing and inhibiting the growth of test bacteria. Besides, An anti-inflammatory testing through extracting chemical components with acetonitrile solvent with several concentrations showed that the anti-inflammatory activity with a concentration of 1000 ppm with % stability on erythrocyte membrane obtained 60.516%, indicating that the higher the concentration used, the better was the anti-inflammatory effect.

Abstract

Abstract

Qust Al Hindi (Saussurea lappa) is a type of medicinal plant which is used as an antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial because it contains phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids. In addition, there are also chlorogenic acid compounds that function as antioxidants. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant activity of the n hexane fraction of the roots of Qust al Hindi (Saussurea lappa) using the DPPH free radical scavenging method. This type of research is a laboratory experiment using a spectrophotometer method based on calculating the IC50 value of the n-hexane fraction of the sample on DPPH free radical activity. The stages of this research began with sample preparation, sample extraction and fractionation, measurement of maximum wavelength, and testing of the antioxidant activity of the sample n-hexane fraction and quarcetin standard. The results of this study are for the percent reduction of 35,26%; the regression equation value of the sample n-hexane fraction is y = 0,0652x + 12,305 ( r = 0,9996 ); and IC50 value of 284,6 µg/mL. The results of study illustrate that the n-hexane fraction of the roots of qust al hindi has potential as an antioksidant activity against DPPH free radical.

Abstract

Qust al hindi (Saussurea lappa) is a plant that has antioxidant activity, especially in the roots. Qust al hindi contains several chemical compounds including flavonoids, steroids, terpenes, alkaloids, sesquiterpenes, costunolide, dehydrococtus lactones, cynaropicrin, and chlorogenic acid. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of qust al hindi root using the FRAP method. Samples that had become powder were extracted using the soxhletation method with 96% ethanol and obtained a % rendition of 5.302%. The extract obtained was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 718 nm after being mixed with several FRAP reagents, using a quercetin standard. The results of the antioxidant analysis showed that the average antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of the qust al hindi root (Saussurea lappa) using the Frap method was 10.3671 mgQE/g extract. Which means that the antioxidant activity of each g of extract is equivalent to the antioxidant activity of 10.3671 mg of quercetin.
