Abstract

Discharge planning is an important component of the nursing process, which affects continuity of care, patient compliance, and prevention of readmission to hospital. However, its implementation in inpatient wards has not been optimal. This study investigates factors related to nurses’ implementation of discharge planning in hospital inpatient wards. This study employed a cross-sectional correlational design. The research population consisted of all 78 nurses in the inpatient wards of Hospital X, with a sample of 39 nurses selected using simple random sampling. The study was conducted at Hospital X in Malang Regency from November 2024 to January 2025. Data on ward supervisor supervision and nurses’ discharge planning implementation were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with Spearman’s rank correlation. The results showed no significant relationship between nurses’ education level or length of service and discharge planning implementation (p-value > 0.05). However, there was a moderate relationship between ward supervisor supervision and nurses’ discharge planning implementation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.479 and p = 0.002. Hospital management is advised to regularly oversee supervision and plan ward head supervision to improve nurses’ performance, particularly in implementing discharge planning.

Abstract

The incidence of hypertension in Wagir Subdistrict, Malang Regency, remains quite high. At the Bunder Village Health Center in Sidorahayu Village, 15 out of 32 active participants suffer from hypertension. Efforts to improve primary health care in the management of hypertension through acupressure therapy. This community service activity involves providing complementary acupressure therapy to Posyandu participants and educating health cadres on acupressure points as part of primary health care. This activity was carried out in February 2025 at the Bunder Village Posyandu, Sidorahayu Village, Wagir District. From this activity, there was a decrease in the average blood pressure value in hypertensive patients after receiving acupuncture therapy and an increase in the knowledge and skills of health cadres regarding acupuncture points to overcome hypertension symptoms. It is hoped that acupressure therapy can be applied by Posyandu health cadres as a promotive effort and complementary therapy to overcome the symptoms of hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide, ranking third in global incidence and second in cancer-related mortality. Conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy often cause severe systemic side effects and drug resistance; therefore, safer strategies are needed for prevention and supportive therapy. Purpose: To identify bamboo shoot extract compounds as nutraceutical agents for colorectal cancer and its implications for colorectal cancer cell growth. Method: An exploratory laboratory study was conducted at Universitas Brawijaya (March-July 2025). Fresh bamboo shoots were extracted using 70% ethanol. Phytochemical screening, total phenolic and flavonoid quantification (Folin-Ciocalteu and AlCl₃ assays), and antioxidant testing (DPPH method) were performed. UHPLC quantified gallic acid, quercetin, and vitamin C. In silico molecular docking (AutoDock Vina 1.2.0) assessed interactions between bioactive compounds and COX-2 and β-catenin. Results: The extract contained flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, saponins, and phytosterols, with high phenolic (268.4 ± 5.2 mg GAE/100 g) and flavonoid (112.7 ± 3.9 mg QE/100 g) contents. Strong antioxidant activity was observed (IC₅₀ = 48.9 µg/mL), comparable to vitamin C. Molecular docking results showed strong interactions of quercetin and gallic acid with COX-2 (−8.1 kcal/mol) and β-catenin (−7.6 kcal/mol). Conclusion: The extract of Bambusa vulgaris bamboo shoots possesses a rich phytochemical composition, strong antioxidant activity, and in silico evidence of COX-2 and β-catenin inhibition, supporting its potential as a chemopreventive agent against colorectal cancer.   Keywords: Antioxidant; Bambusa Vulgaris; Colorectal Cancer; COX-2; Nutraceutical.
