Abstract

The risk factors for non-typhoidal Salmonella infections in pediatric populations are not fully understood, but this remains a critical area of study for improving child health. The aim of this review is to systematically analyze the available literature about the risk factors of non typhoidal salmonella among pediatric populations. The risk factors for non-typhoidal Salmonella infections in children were examined in all papers published between 2019 and 2024 using a systematic review of the literature using PRISMA criteria. Google Scholar, PubMed, and ProQuest are the three electronic databases that the writers searched. The query "children” AND “risk factors” AND “non-typhoidal salmonella” OR “salmonellosis" was used. The outcomes were then examined appropriately. We initially identified 1983 articles and subsequently selected 7 articles that met the inclusion criteria. We identified several risk factors associated with non-typhoidal Salmonella infections and categorized them into four domains: environmental factors (such as open field waste disposal), behavioral habits (like inadequate handwashing), health conditions, and socio-demographic characteristics (such as lower parental education). Our review identified risk factors for non-typhoidal Salmonella infections in four domains: environmental factors, behavioral habits, health conditions, and socio-demographic characteristics.

Abstract

Background: Since alcohol is obtained easily, so it tends to be widely abused. The factors that cause a teenager to consume alcohol are individual factors/individual personality, and environmental factors. This study aims to estimate the factors that affect alcohol consumption in adolescents. Subjects and Method: This study used systematic review and meta-analysis using PICO. Population: adolescents. Interventions: drinking parents, drinking friends, smoking. Comparison: non-drinking parents, non-drinking friends, non-smoking. Result: alcohol consumption. The articles used in this study were derived from 2 databases, namely Google Scholar and Science Direct. The article's keywords were ""teenager" AND "drinking parents" AND "drinking friends" AND "smoke" AND “alcohol consumption". The articles included in this study were full paper articles, cross-sectional study design, publication year ranged from 2019-2023 and the measure of association used was Adjusted Odds Ratio. The articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.4 application. Results: Seven cross-sectional studies showed that drinking friends increased alcohol consumption by 5.09 times compared to non-drinking friends, and the result was statistically significant (aOR=5.09; CI 95%= 2.64 to 9.81; p= 0.001). Seven cross-sectional studies showed that drinking parents increased alcohol consumption by 1.99 times compared to non-drinking parents, and the result was statistically significant (aOR=1.99; CI 95%= 1.50 to 2.64; p= 0.001). Seven cross-sectional studies showed that smoking can increase alcohol consumption by 2.09 times compared to nonsmoking, and the result was statistically significant (aOR=2.09; CI 95%= 1.32 to 3.30; p= 0.001). Conclusion: Smoking-adolescents, drinking parents, and drinking friends increase their likelihood of consuming alcohol.

Abstract

Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection ranks as one of most frequent human infections in the world. This study aimed to investigate the determinants of H. pylori infection in patients at Universitas Sebelas Maret Hospital. Sebjects and Method: This was an analytic observational with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at Universitas Sebelas Maret Hospital, Sukoharjo, Central Java, from November to Desember 2023. A sample of 199 patients was selected for  this  study  by  fixed  disease  sampling.  The  dependent  variable  was H. pylori infection. The independent variables were number of household members, source of water, toilet type, education level, family income, eating habits, smoking status, region type, and waste disposal.  The  data  were  taken  via surveys with questionairre.  Multiple logistic regression was employed for data analysis. Results: The risk of H. pylori infection increased with number of households member ≥5 (AOR= 4.52; 95% CI= 1.78 to 11.45; p = 0.001), water source from well (AOR= 3.74; 95% CI= 1.54 to 9.08; p = 0.003), habits of eating by bare hand (AOR= 4.71; 95% CI= 1.98 to 11.20; p= 0 < 0.001), smoking (AOR= 2.68; 95% CI= 1.11 to 6.49; p = 0.028), and living in urban area (AOR= 2.94; 95% CI= 1.10 to 7.80; p = 0.030). Meanwhile, it also decreased with having education level ≥ high school (AOR= 0.24; 95% CI= 0.10 to 0.57; p < 0.001), having family income ≥ 2,200,000 (AOR= 0.15; 95% CI= 0.06 to 0.37; p < 0.001), and implementing waste disposal system with collected by staff (AOR= 0.26; 95% CI= 0.10 to 0.65; p = 0.004). Conclusion: The risk of H. pylori infection is determined by number of household members, source of water, education level, family income, eating habits, smoking status, region type, and waste disposal. Abstract

Poorly controlled diabetes mellitus is a major cause of blindness, heart attack, amputation, stroke, kidney failure, and impotence. Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. The prevalence of diabetes and hypertension is increasing globally. There is strong evidence from clinical trials that lifestyle modification and education can minimize the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as preventive measures that can reduce morbidity and mortality. Based on a study carried out by the team before the activity was held, information was obtained that the majority of pre-elderly and elderly residents had never had a health check-up. The aim to be achieved in this activity is to provide health education through checking blood pressure and blood sugar as well as providing counseling to pre-elderly and elderly groups. This program was held on November 11, 2023 at the Pandanrejo Village Hall, Wagir District, Malang Regency with a total of 50 participants. The methods used to solve partner problems are health checks and counseling. After carrying out the activities, pre-elderly and elderly residents can find out their blood pressure and blood sugar levels and understand well about healthcare efforts.
