Abstract

This community service activity aims to socialize traditional games to Generation Z students in order to instill local cultural values at SD Negeri Bukit Rata, Aceh Tamiang. The development of digital technology causes children to interact more often with gadgets, so their involvement in traditional games is decreasing. In fact, traditional games have an important function in training social skills, motor skills, and instilling character values such as cooperation, sportsmanship, discipline, and mutual cooperation. This service program was carried out through several stages, namely observation, counseling, game demonstration, hands-on practice, and evaluation. The games introduced included cricket, gobak sodor, and tug of war. The results of the activity showed high enthusiasm from the students as well as an increase in their understanding of the local cultural values contained in the game. In addition, students became more physically active and more involved in positive social interactions. Teachersalso responded positively by stating that traditional games can be used as an alternative learning activity that is fun and educational. Thus, this activity is effective in supporting efforts to preserve local culture through an educational approach that suits thecharacteristics of Generation Z students.

Abstract

The performance of Indonesian civil servants (ASN) remains suboptimal, as reflected in the 2023 national BerAKHLAK index score of 61.1, indicating that the internalization of work culture has not been fully achieved. This condition suggests the need to examine factors influencing employee performance, particularly competence and work discipline, with work motivation as a mediating variable. This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of competence and work discipline on ASN performance through work motivation. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected from 360 ASN in the Malinau Regency Government using purposive sampling. The analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that competence does not have a significant direct effect on ASN performance. However, work discipline has a positive and significant effect on performance. Both competence and work discipline significantly influence work motivation, which in turn has a positive effect on performance. Furthermore, work motivation mediates the relationship between competence and performance, as well as between work discipline and performance. These findings highlight the important role of motivation in strengthening employee performance in the public sector.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ speaking skills through the implementation of the storytelling method supported by digital storybooks based on local wisdom. Students’ low speaking ability in English learning was influenced by the limited use of teaching methods and learning media that were less engaging and not contextualized with their real-life environment at SMP Negeri 1 Muara Batu. Storytelling was chosen as it promotes an active, communicative, and meaningful learning atmosphere, while digital storybooks incorporating local wisdom were used to increase students’ motivation and participation. The study employed qualitative and quantitative approaches using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 30 students of class VIII Merdeka 1. Data were collected through speaking tests, observation sheets of students’ and teacher’s activities, and documentation. Speaking performance was assessed based on pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and meaning comprehension. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ speaking skills, with the average score increasing from 50.5 in Cycle I to 80.2 in Cycle II. Students’ learning activities and participation also improved from 60% to 78%. In addition, the teacher’s performance in implementing the storytelling method increased from 65% in Cycle I to 85% in Cycle II. These results indicate that storytelling supported by digital storybooks based on local wisdom is effective in improving students’ speaking skills.
