Abstract

Pakuan University (UNPAK) currently has 6 faculties for undergraduate programs, vocational schools, graduate, and post-graduate programs, with an interconnected fiber optic network. The management of the fiber optic network is carried out by Putik as O & M in collaboration with Moratel as the internet connection provider with a bandwidth of 550 Mbps. Analyzing the bandwidth capacity of the fiber optic network is crucial for the implementation of e-learning at Pakuan University. E-learning plays an important role in supporting the teaching and learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic, whether online or remote learning. Based on the daily user recapitulation, it is known that e-learning usage peaks between 08.50 – 10.30 Western Indonesian Time on an usual Monday with 6,505 users in total. The Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences (FISIB) holds the highest usage of 143.23 Mbps, along with other faculties which exceeds the predetermined capacity of 40 Mbps each. This caused the Simple Queue method to experience access delays of even Request Time Out (RTO) conditions. Therefore, the Simple Queue method is no longer adequate, making the Queue Tree method the better option.

Abstract

Measurement of flow rate in wastewater pipes is still challenging to be done in real-time. The main challenge in wastewater measurement is the non-homogeneity of wastewater due to the presence of solid waste material. This becomes a hindrance when using mechanical flow measurement or direct contact between the fluid and the measuring device. Therefore, the solution is to perform non-contact flow measurement between the fluid and the measuring device. In this study, a flow sensor was developed for a horizontal pipe using the cross-sectional area measurement method on a horizontal pipe measured by an ultrasonic sensor as the fluid level measuring device. The ultrasonic sensor can measure the height of the fluid level, allowing the flow velocity and cross-sectional area of the horizontal pipe to be determined. The basis of this measurement is that any flowing fluid in a pipe that experiences a change in velocity will also experience a change in volume or fluid level. This measurement is in accordance with the continuity equation. From the calibration results, an error of 1.7% was obtained for the height measurement from the ultrasonic sensor compared to the ruler used as a height calibration tool. Meanwhile, the error in the flow velocity measurement from the ultrasonic sensor compared to the calibration results using the tracker software was 4.2%. The error in volume measurement from the ultrasonic sensor compared to the standard measuring tool, a 5-liter beaker glass, was 0.8%. As a conclusion, flow rate measurement using the ultrasonic sensor with the cross-sectional area measurement method can be used to measure the flow rate in a horizontal pipe with a diameter of 11 cm.

Abstract

Lightning is a dangerous natural phenomenon due to its high-voltage electrical energy, which can cause significant damage. The primary hazard of lightning is direct strikes, potentially leading to severe burns, organ failure, and even death. Additionally, lightning can trigger fires, disrupt power grids, and cause explosions. To mitigate these risks, this research focuses on designing a lightning detection system using the "rolling sphere" method. The lightning strike zone is modeled using CorelDRAW software, aiding users in visualizing areas prone to lightning strikes. The device is assembled with electronic components designed to detect lightning based on the method, considering parameters such as peak current, current steepness, charge, and impulse force. Once assembled, the system undergoes testing in an open area at the Faculty of Engineering, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, to verify its functionality and accuracy. Testing is conducted at night to minimize weather-related disturbances, such as Cumulonimbus clouds. The results confirm that the device operates as expected, successfully identifying areas at risk of lightning strikes. This system is anticipated to enhance safety and infrastructure protection in lightning-prone regions.

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel control strategy for enhancing power quality through the implementation of an Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller (T2FLC) for Shunt Active Power Filters (SAPF). The presented method effectively addresses harmonic distortions introduced by non-linear loads, a common issue in modern electrical systems. Extensive simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate the T2FLC's ability to regulate the DC bus voltage while significantly reducing Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The method achieves superior performance compared to both traditional passive and active filtering techniques, reducing THD within the limits specified by IEEE 519-2014 standards. The results confirm the robustness and adaptability of the proposed approach across varying load conditions, establishing it as a reliable and scalable solution for improving power quality in complex electrical networks.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of solar energy as a solar power plant (PLTS) has increasingly developed and received attention in the last few decades. BLK Sukabumi Regency has a building roof that has the potential to be used as a rooftop PLTS, so it can reduce electricity bills. This research aims to financially analyze the integration of rooftop solar PV at the Sukabumi Regency Job Training Center (BLK). In this research, planning and design of a rooftop PLTS with a capacity of 30.7 kW was carried out using Canadian Solar 320 W solar panels and an ICA Solar 30 kW inverter. The analysis results show that the construction of this rooftop PLTS requires initial investment costs of IDR 300,000,000.00 with annual operational costs reaching IDR 35,278,070.00 and total operational and maintenance costs for 20 years reaching IDR 558,453,870.40. Apart from that, this project has a Net Present Cost (NPC) value of IDR 894,907,600.00 with a payback period of approximately 12 years. After integration with Rooftop PLTS, electricity tariffs succeeded in decreasing by around 30% from IDR 900/kWh to IDR 630.64/ kWh, with a reduction in energy costs from IDR 63,370,935.00/year to 30,615,359.59/year. Based on the results of this research, the relevant suggestions are: implementing a 30 kW rooftop PLTS in BLK Sukabumi Regency as a step towards more sustainable use of renewable energy; conduct further feasibility studies to find alternative components such as solar panels or inverters that are more economical without sacrificing system performance; and consider utilizing renewable energy in other locations on a larger scale, such as government buildings or large industries, to reduce dependence on fossil energy sources.
