Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect children's involvement in physical activity. Low physical activity and high sedentary behavior have the potential to negatively impact the health and fitness of children with ASD. This study aims to describe the level of activity patterns and sedentary behavior of children with ASD, measured objectively using an accelerometer.. Penelitian ini menggunakan observasional deskriptif dengan pendekatan potong lintang (cross-sectional). The subjects of this study were nine children with ASD aged 6-18 years who were recruited purposively at the YPAC Bandung Special School (SLB-D). Activity was measured using an accelerometer worn for seven consecutive days. The data were analyzed descriptively, including energy expenditure, Metabolic Equivalent of Task (METs) values, sedentary behavior (sedentary bouts and sedentary breaks), and daily step count. The results showed that the average energy expenditure was 997.54 kcal with an average METs value of 1.038, indicating a predominance of very light-intensity activities. Children with ASD spend most of their time being sedentary, with long periods of sedentary behavior. Although there are variations in the number of daily steps between individuals, the intensity of physical activity remains relatively low. The conclusion of this study shows that children with ASD have low physical activity and are dominated by sedentary behavior. These findings emphasize the importance of developing structured and inclusive physical activity programs to increase physical activity intensity and reduce sedentary time in children with ASD.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in athletes' mental toughness based on gender and sports characteristics. The study used a quantitative approach with a comparative design. The participants consisted of 230 athletes from various sports with the characteristics of Game Sports, Accuracy, and Martial Arts. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of the SMTQ, consisting of 14 items across three dimensions: confidence, constancy, and control. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test and differences based on sports characteristics were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test; all data processing was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. The results showed that: (1) there were significant differences based on gender in the confidence and control dimensions and in the total mental toughness score, with male athletes obtaining higher scores of 124.93 (confidence), 126.95 (control), and 124.98 (mental toughness score); (2) no significant difference was found in the constancy dimension based on gender; (3) based on sport characteristics, significant differences were found in the constancy dimension and total mental toughness score, with martial arts athletes showing higher scores than accuracy and game-sport athletes; and (4) the confidence and control dimensions did not show significant differences based on sport characteristics. Although the differences were statistically significant, the small effect sizes indicate that the contribution of gender and sport characteristics to the variation in mental toughness is relatively limited. Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between sleep quality and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among university employees. The method used was a quantitative study with an analytical observational approach and a cross-sectional design. A total of 77 university employees were recruited using a convenience sampling technique. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while HRQoL was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Data were analyzed using correlation tests to determine the relationship between the variables. The results showed that most respondents had poor sleep quality, and sleep quality was negatively associated with all HRQoL domains. A significant relationship was found in the psychological domain, indicating that poorer sleep quality was associated with lower psychological well-being. In conclusion, there is a relationship between sleep quality and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among university employees, particularly in the psychological domain. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the development of scientific publications on mindful parenting, independence, and motor development in children with Down syndrome using a bibliometric approach. The study employed a bibliometric method based on data retrieved from the Scopus database covering the period from 2017 to 2026. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer software to identify (1) publication trends, (2) the most highly cited articles, (3) the most productive authors and countries, and (4) the co-occurrence of keywords. The results revealed a steady increase in the number of publications, rising from 21 articles in 2017 to a peak of 95 articles in 2025. The United States was the most productive country, contributing 132 documents with a total of 2,285 citations, while Helena Moreira was identified as the most productive author with 20 publications and 627 citations. Keyword co-occurrence analysis indicated that the existing literature is predominantly focused on mindfulness, parenting stress, mental health, and parent–child relationships. In contrast, studies specifically examining the relationship between mindful parenting, independence, and motor development in children with Down syndrome remain relatively limited. In conclusion, this bibliometric analysis highlights substantial opportunities for future research to explore the role of mindful parenting in promoting independence and enhancing motor development among children with Down syndrome. Abstract

Physical activity is considered to affect mood, but this relationship is not always consistent and may depend on the context of the activity and individual characteristics. This study aims to analyze the effect of physical activity on mood among members of a recreational sports community using a cross-sectional study design involving 52 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and grouped into three type of activities (running, trail run, and cycling), while mood was measured using the Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS). Data analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA test, which showed that there were no significant differences in physical activity levels between activity groups (F = 2.502; p = 0.092) or in mood conditions between physical activity groups (F = 2.006; p = 0.145). These findings indicate that physical activity does not have a significant effect on mood in the recreational sports community in this study, suggesting taht the relationship between physical activity and mood is complex and may be influenced by other factors such as intensity, consistency, social context, and unmeasured psychological variables.

Abstract

Healthy lifestyle habits during adolescence, especially among junior high school students, are an important stage in supporting long-term physical development and fitness. This study aims to determine the relationship between diet, physical activity, and rest patterns with fitness focused on the cardiorespiratory endurance of junior high school students. The study used a cross-sectional design and involved 60 eighth and ninth grade students at junior high school 1 Panggarangan, Lebak Regency, Banten. Data were collected using the AFHC questionnaire for dietary patterns, the IPAQ for physical activity, the PSQI for sleep patterns, and the Beep Test to measure fitness. Data analysis includes descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation, and multiple linear regression. The results of the study show that diet is related to physical activity, where students with healthier eating habits tend to be more active. However, no relationship was found between diet, physical activity, and sleep patterns and fitness levels. Regression analysis also shows that these three variables do not contribute significantly to variations in student fitness. These findings indicate that cardiorespiratory fitness is influenced by factors other than the daily habits measured in this study. This study provides an initial overview of the lifestyle and fitness conditions of junior high school students, and can serve as a basis for schools and related parties to develop fitness improvement programs.
