Abstract

The an perfect burning process of wick kerosene stove is one of some causes of the low efficiency of that stove. The result of temperature distribution test indicates that the temperature of secondary fire area is higher than the surrounding area. The higher temperature secondary fire area is widened by increasing the number of hole in the middle of inner muffler. Than, it is necessary to know the optimum result of increasing hole in secondary fire area toward efficiency increasing of wick kerosene stove. The test is done in the burning laboratory, machine technique Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo by using 18 and 24 wicks kerosene stove equipped with fin reflector. The test of efficiency is done based on Profisional International Standard Testing Woodstove (VITA, 1982) nameli boilling water method. The number of passing fire holes is varied into 1 hole, 3 holes, 4 holes and 5 holes. It is found, that the widening of secondary fire area with 4 holes produces the highest efficiency in 18 and 24 wicks kerosene stove. The efficiency increasing is found as follows: 66.06 % for 1 hole, 76.06 % for 3 holes, 67.65 % for 4 holes and 66.92 % for 5 holes of 18 wick stove; and 58.41 % for 1 hole, 58.73 % for 3 holes, 60.40 % for 4 holes and 59.11 % for 5 holes of  24 wick stove.

Abstract

Heat wasted due to radiation from the flame around the LPG stovecan lower stove efficiency. The wasted heat would be exploited by using a finned heat reflector . The working principle of this tool is to capture the wasted heat  and reflect to the load so that it becomes useful energy . Preliminary data indicate that areflector without fins can increase stove efficiency., The objective of this research isto determine the performace finned heat reflectorin increasing LPG stove  efficiency. A piece of stainless steel plate as a truncated cone-shaped finned experimental model was used as a reflector. The efficiency test is done through  boiling water test. The number of fin of the the same dimensions were varied, starting from one-line to three-line fins. The performance of the stoves using reflectorwith fins were compared with that of stove using reflector without finsand with that of stove without reflectot. Based on test results, it is found that the use of finned reflectors is able to increase the efficiency of LPG stoves. The highest efficiency is obtained on the use of reflectors with three rows of fins, which amounted to 44.09%. The magnitude of the increase is compared to without using a reflector at 5.22%, while compared with the reflector without fins for 5.01%. Based on the test of temperature distribution is obtained also that the use of reflector finned heat radiation can increase the area of complete combustion.

Abstract

 The addition of embers is an effort to improve the efficiency of LPG stoves. Fire-embossed element of woven pattern is made of wire nikelin. The device when is burned with LPG cooker fire will incite to form a high-temperature fire, so as to burn the unperfectly burned fuel vapor around the wire. Previous research has shown that the element of fire can improve the efficiency of 8.32%. The efficiency test is done by boiling water test. The diameter of the embers element is varied, 20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm. The performance of the appliance is compared to the LPG stove without the use of embers. Temperature distribution at each treatment was also examined. It was found that the use of fire element with diameter of 0.20 mm resulted in the highest efficiency of 61.71%, with an increase of 8.32%. Temperature distribution test results show that the use of fire diameter element 0.20 mm produce the most optimal adult fire areas.

Abstract

The defective combustion process is one of the causes of low efficiency in LPG stoves. Increasing the efficiency in LPG stoves by optimizing the combustion has high possibility to do. Practical effort that can be done is adding the element embers. This tool is a woven wire nikelin that are arranged in layers and if it is heated, it will be incandescent, forming high temperature embers. Generated embers will be able to burn fuel vapor perfectly around the wire, so it will broaden the mature fire area. The test is done by using LPG stoves which is provided by finned heat radiation reflector. The efficiency test is done by conducting the boiling water test. The number of element embers layers are varied, from one to four layers. The performance of element embers use is compared with LPG stoves without element embers use. In this study, temperature distribution for each treatment is tested. It is obtained that the use of element embers without reflector can improve the efficiency until 8.23%. The highest efficiency occurred in one of layer element embers use, as much as 61.7%. But, the increase of element embers in finned heat radiation reflector decreased the efficiency. It was because the mounting pattern of element embers bothered the function of the reflector, so the heat reflection from the reflector was stunted and stuck between the reflector and the mounting pattern. Therefore, the heat energy of the reflection from the reflector cannot be moved to combustion area. The result of temperature distribution test also showed that the element embers use could broaden the mature fire area.

Abstract

It has been known from the previous researchers that the use of the heat radiation reflector can improve the efficiency of the LPG stoves. Based on the radiation theory, the radiation energy is emitted radially in all directions. Therefore, a kind of method to guide the heat radiation is required to minimize the heat losses. One of the method is to add some fins to the reflector in order to capture the potential heat loss from the non-finned reflector. In this work, we use one fin line reflector made from a plate of stainless steel in the shape of cutted-cone. The boiling water test is used to investigate the efficiency of LPG stoves. We find that the efficiency of LPG stoves can be increased by adding one fin line reflector by about 5.21% and 1.75% than that one without reflector and non-finned reflector, respectively. The result of the temperature distribution shows that one fin line reflector enlarges the area of complete combustion.

Abstract

The performance of heat transfer on a car radiator can be improved by using nanofluids as working fluids. In this study analyzes the of heat transfer performance of Al2O3/water nanofluids that pass through cylindrical pipes in 3D using the CFD simulation method for single phase approach. This research studied the effect of nanofluid concentration 0.1, 0.5, 1 and 1.5% on the heat transfer coefficient. The Reynolds number is varied between 9000 to 23000 and the ambient temperature is constant. The results showed that 1.5% Al2O3/water nanofluid increasing heat transfer coefficient up to 5.7% compared to base fluid.

Abstract

Telah dilaksanakan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat berupa kegiatan Iptek bagi Masyarakat Pokmas Maisyah Kelurahan Tonatan Kecamatan Kota Kabupaten Ponorogo. Kelompok masyarakat (Pokmas). Maisyah berdiri sejak tahun 2012 di Kelurahan Tonatan Kecamatan Kota Kabupaten Ponorogo. Kelompok ini beranggotakan 11 kepala keluarga yang sebagian besar anggotanya adalah petani. Anggota Pokmas ini selain sebagai petani juga memiliki usaha peternakan kambing. Permasalahan yang dihadapi adalah belum adanya alat pencacah rumput yang dibutuhkan untuk proses penyediaan pakan. Program ini difokuskan pada pengadaan alat pencacah rumput sebagai bahan dasar pakan ternak. Teknologi tepat guna berupa alat pencacah rumput yang dirancang mampu berproduksi dengan kapasitas 110 kg/jam. Pelaksanaan program ini telah berhasil membantu meningkatkan proses produksi pakan ternak di Pokmas Maisyah. Sebagai tindak lanjut perlu dilakukan pelatihan lanjutan tentang pembuatan pakan fermentasi dan manajemen pengelolaan proyek penggemukan kambing

Abstract

Sistem transmisi pada kendaraan terbagi menjadi transmisi manual dan otomatis. Keduanya memiliki oli dan fungsi oli yang berbeda. Oli sepeda motor matic berfungsi melumasi mesin dan sebagai penghantar mekanisme perpindahan gigi transmisi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kenaikan temperatur dan berapa prosentase perubahan angka viskositas oli sepeda motor matic. Telah dilakukan penelitian pengaruh temperatur terhadap angka viskositas beberapa jenis oli sepeda motor matic. Pengujian dilakukan dengan viscometer bola jatuh. Pengukuran dilakukan pada suhu 27 dan suhu 85 . Dari hasil penelitian beberapa jenis oli sepeda motor matic. Viskositas Enduro Matic SAE 10W-30 adalah 0.0346 poise, Top 1 Action Matic SAE 10W-40 adalah 0.0240 poise, BM 1 Matic SAE 10W-30 adalah 0.0240 poise, Federal Matic SAE 10W-30 adalah 0.0191 poise, Motul Scooter SAE 10W-30 adalah 0.0193 poise dan Castrol Activ Matic SAE 10W-30 adalah 0.0213 poise. Prosentase Penurunannya adalah Enduro Matic SAE 10W-30 3.26%, Top 1 Action Matic SAE 10W-40 3.02%, BM 1 Matic SAE 10W-30 3.4%, Federal Matic SAE 10W-30 3.5%, Motul Scooter SAE 10W-30 3.44% dan Castrol Activ Matic SAE 10W-30 3.2%.

Abstract

Gas alam adalah sumber daya Alam yang tidak dapat diperbarui. Salah satu upaya untuk sedikit menghemat gas alam adalah dengan pengoptimalan pemanfaatan panas yang dihasilkan oleh kompor LPG. Rekayasa kontruksi dan penemuan hasil penelitian telah banyak dilakukan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi kompor LPG  tersebut. Pemasangan elemen bara api dengan variasi material bertujuan untuk mengetahui material jenis apa yang dapat memberikan radiasi panas terbaik. Untuk mengetahui hal tersebut dilakukan pengujian pengaruh material elemen bara api terhadap peningkatan efisiensi  kompor gas yang dikemas dalam model penelitian eksperimental. Pengujian  dilakukan  dengan metode air mendidih (boilling water method), dengan memasang elemen dengan material kawat nikelin, kawat kanthal dan kawat nicrom pada kompor LPG. Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan terdapat indikasi peningkatan efisiensi pada semua jenis material elemen, namun nilai peningkatan efisiensi tertinggi terdapat pada material kawat kanthal  yaitu sebesar 55,57% meningkat 3.86% dibandingkan dengan tanpa menggunakan elemen bara api yang besarnya adalah 51,47 %.

Abstract

Ketergantungan akan energi listrik terus meningkat dan ketersediaan energi fosil saat ini mengalami penurunan maka diperlukan sumber energi baru yang terbarukan dan ramah lingkungan. Salah satu energi yang dapat dimanfaatkan adalah energi angin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan unjuk kerja model turbin angin Savonius tipe L dengan 3 variasi. Ketiga variasi turbin angin tersebut dibuat dalam tiga stage, dengan ukuran yang sama yakni 0,35 m x 0,60 m.. Setiap model turbin angin diuji untuk mengetahui torsi, putaran poros, daya kincir, TSR dan koefisien daya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model turbin Savonius dengan jumlah 2 stage memberikan koefisien daya (Cp) maksimal (21,86 % pada kecepatan angin 8,57 m/s) tertinggi di antara ketiga model turbin yang diteliti. Model turbin angin Savonius dengan bentuk sudu standar menghasilkan koefisien daya maksimal 14,10 % pada kecepatan angin 7,92 m/s. Serta turbin angin ketiga menghasilkan koefisien daya sebesar 16,39 % pada kecepatan angin 8,7 m/s
