Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Game-Based Learning in improving Qowaidul Imla’ ability among students at Salafiyyah Ula Tahfizh Ummul Quro. The study was motivated by the low ability of students to understand and apply Arabic writing rules, as well as the need for innovative learning strategies that can increase student engagement and learning outcomes. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 37 students, divided into an experimental class and a control class selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Sample t-Test with the assistance of SPSS software. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, with Shapiro-Wilk significance values of 0.107 for the pretest and 0.106 for the posttest, while Levene’s Test significance values were 0.113 and 0.076, respectively. The Independent Sample t-Test yielded a significance value of 0.015 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, Game-Based Learning was found to be effective in improving students’ Qowaidul Imla’ ability at Salafiyyah Ula Tahfizh Ummul Quro.

Abstract

The Arabic language plays a vital role in Islamic education, particularly as a means to understand the Qur'an and Hadith; consequently, mastering nahwu (Arabic syntax) is a fundamental necessity for students in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). While the deductive method remains the most widely used approach in teaching nahwu, in-depth studies regarding its implementation process and the rationale for its selection at the ninth-grade level within the pesantren environment remain limited. This study aims to describe the implementation of the deductive method in nahwu instruction, the reasons for its selection, and the supporting and inhibiting factors involved in the ninth-grade class at Pondok Pesantren Al Ishlah Al Islamy. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, involving one nahwu teacher and five students selected via purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, with data validity ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The results indicate that the implementation of the deductive method proceeds through three stages: planning, execution (introduction, explanation of rules, provision of examples, and application/practice), and evaluation. The selection of this method is based on four primary reasons: alignment with students' Arabic proficiency, ease of understanding nahwu rules, the creation of more systematic instruction, and enhanced learning effectiveness. Supporting factors include the teacher's engaging teaching style, student engagement, and positive teacher motivation, whereas inhibiting factors include scheduling classes during the final period, students' initial negative perceptions of nahwu, and varying levels of student comprehension

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has encouraged the implementation of machine translation features on various social media platforms, including TikTok. Although this feature facilitates users in understanding foreign-language content, its translation quality, particularly for Arabic–Indonesian language pairs, still requires further evaluation due to significant linguistic and cultural differences. This study aims to analyze translation errors and evaluate the quality of Arabic–Indonesian machine translation on TikTok based on three aspects: accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research employed a qualitative approach using content analysis. The data consisted of four Arabic-language TikTok contents translated automatically by TikTok's translation feature. Data were analyzed using the translation quality assessment instrument developed by Nababan et al. (2012) and described qualitatively. The findings reveal that the overall quality of TikTok's machine translation remains low. The average accuracy score was 33,33%, indicating that most source-language meanings were not transferred correctly. The acceptability aspect obtained an average score of 46,67, showing that many translations did not conform to Indonesian linguistic norms and sounded unnatural. Meanwhile, the readability aspect achieved an average score of 53,33%, indicating that the translated texts were still difficult for readers to understand. The most dominant errors included lexical errors, contextual errors, failures in translating idiomatic expressions, and deviations from Indonesian grammatical conventions. These findings indicate that TikTok's machine translation feature has not yet been able to accurately convey Arabic messages into Indonesian, particularly for religious and context-dependent expressions, and therefore still requires human post-editing to ensure translation quality.
