Abstract

Filariasis is a chronic infectious disease, caused by filarial worms in the lymph and lymph nodes cause lymphangitis and elephantiasis. Batuah Village is the area in Sampit with the largest percentage of microfilariae compared to the surrounding area. From 196 the number of Batuah villagers examined by the filariasis elimination officer of Kotawaringin Timur District Health Office in 2013 obtained 5 positive cases of filariasis with 2.55% microfilaria number which is dominated by filaria worm Brugia malayi. From the local health center has also conducted a mass drug treatment program with DEC medication, combined with albendazole for 12 days on 14-16 July 2014. The aim of this study was to determine the success rate of treatment conducted by the health officer against filariasis patients in the Batuah village. The method used in this microfilariae examination is a microscopic method. Capillary blood was taken on 4 filarial patients who tested positive on the previous examination who had been given DEC + Albendazole treatment, the result from 4 samples that examined 1 positive sample of 4 patients. The implementation of medication that has been done by public health office was successful because there was a decrease of microfilaria rate which was previously 2.55% to 0,51% (<1%).

Abstract

Malaria remains a problem in South Kalimantan, with a malaria elimination rate of 53.8%. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for malaria elimination. The malaria diagnostic method utilized is the microscopic examination, which is easy and affordable. This method involves preparing thick and thin blood smears using capillary blood. However, when an anticoagulant is used in the preparation of thick blood smears for malaria, such as blood with anticoagulant, it may cause the blood smear to peel off or not adhere to the glass slide during hemolysis. Calcium chloride (CaCl2) is one of the reagents used in the hematology laboratory for prothrombin time testing. CaCl2 can activate platelets in blood with the anticoagulant K3EDTA to induce clotting. This study aimed to determine the concentration of CaCl2 that produces a 1.5 cm diameter thick blood smear for malaria. The experimental method was employed for this purpose. CaCl2 solutions were prepared at concentrations of 10%, 9%, 8%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 2%, 1%, and 0.1%. Microscopic examination results showed clear lysis of red blood cells, distinct leukocytes, and visible Plasmodium vivax parasites. The ANOVA test yielded a significance value of 0.00, indicating a difference in the diameter of thick blood smears for malaria prepared using blood with anticoagulant reacted with CaCl2. Based on the Post Hoc test, the concentration of CaCl2 that yielded favorable results for preparing thick blood smears for malaria was 4%, resulting in a diameter of 1.5 cm

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) merupakan kondisi kronis terjadinya peningkatan kadar glukosa darah yang dapat menyebabkan komplikasi, penurunan kualitas hidup hingga kematian. Penggunaan obat tradisional pada penyakit diabetes dapat membantu mengontrol kadar glukosa darah dan meningkatkan kualitas hidup, namun belum banyak masyarakat mengetahui tentang penggunaan tanaman herbal terhadap penyakit diabetes dan juga tentang sertifikasi obat tradisional. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait penyakit diabetes, penggunaan obat tradisional dan pengetahuan tentang pertanggungjawaban hukum obat tradisional yang belum tersertifikasi dengan cara edukasi menggunakan leaflet dan penyuluhan secara lisan, kemudian dilakukan juga skrining kesehatan berupa pengukuran tekanan darah, kadar glukosa dan keluhan penyakit. Target pengabdian masyarakat adalah masyarakat RT 36 Kelurahan Cempaka. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran kuesioner pre-post diketahui terdapat perbedaan nilai kuesioner dari pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah diberikan penyuluhan penggunaan obat tradisional (sig. 0.000) dan edukasi sertifikasi obat tradisional (sig. 0.000) yang menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah edukasi obat tradisional diabetes dan sertifikasinya.

Abstract

Ramania (B. macrophylla Griffith) can beused as an antibacterial in the gastrointestinal tractOne of the bacteria in the digestive tract is Escherichia coli. The purpose of this study was to determine the group of compounds contained in ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) and the activity of ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) in inhibiting the growth of E. coli bacteria. Using the maceration method with methanol solvent and extract amendment of 8.6019%. Ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) contains secondary metabolite compounds namely alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by the welling method with a concentration of methanol extract of ramania leaves (B. macrophylla Griffith) which is 1,024 mg / ml; 2,048 mg/ml; 4,096 mg/ml; 8.192 mg/ml; 16,384 mg/ml; 32,760 mg/ml; positive control of ciprofloxacin 5μg/disk, and negative control of Na-CMC 0.5%. The results of the antibacterial activity test of ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) showed that the concentration of 2.048 mg / ml included the inhibition zone of the weak category, namely 3.33 mm;, while the concentration of 32,760 mg / ml included the moderate inhibition zone, namely mm; 8.48 mm and the positive control of ciprofloxacin 5μg / disk was included in the category of very strong inhibition zone, namely 22.8 mm. Based on the spss results using the Man-Whitney test the positive control and control had no difference due to the sig value (<0.05). It can be concluded that ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) has antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria and has secondary metabolite compounds found in ramania leaves (B. macrophylla Griffith) are Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, Saponins and Steroids.

Abstract

Pare leaves (Momordica charantia L.) have many health benefits. Leaves pare (M.chrantia L.) are a trusted herb that is used as an antibacterial plant. N-hexane fraction of pare leaves(S. epidermidis). The purpose of this study is to identify the secondary metabolite compounds found in the n-hexane fraction of ethanol extract 96% of pare leaves (M.charantia L.) and to find out the N-hexane fractions of etanol 96% pare leaves (M.charantia L.) in inhibiting S.epidermidis bacteria. The type of research is experimental. The leaf extraction process uses maseration with 96% ethanol solvent and fraxination using n-hexane solvent. Phytochemical screening tests include flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, steroids/terpenoids, phenols and tannins. The antibacterial activity carried out using well method with concentration of 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%. The results of this study showed that a fraction of n-hexane ethanol extract 96% of the leaf (M.charantia L.) contained flavonoid, alkaloid and steroid compounds. The n-hexane fraction ethanol extract 96% leaf (M.charantia L.) has antibacterial activity in inhibiting the S.epidermidis bacteria in the weak to strong category. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the fraction n-hexane ethanol extract 96% of the leaf (Momordica charantia L.) is able to inhibit the bacteria S.epidermidis at all concentrations.

Abstract

Shigellosis is a digestive tract infection that can be caused by S dysenteriae bacteria. Javanese ginseng (T. paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertner) is a plant known to have antibacterial potential. This study aims to determine the content of the class of compounds contained in the 76% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves and to observe the antibacterial activity of the 70% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves against S. dysenteriae based on the diameter of the inhibition zone. Antibacterial testing using the disc diffusion method with six variations of extract concentrations including 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% for positive and negative controls used Azithromycin 15µg/disk and 0.5% Na-CMC. Identification of the content of secondary metabolites was carried out on alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, quinones, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids and tannins. The results of the screening test for 70% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves contained flavonoids, phenols, saponins, steroids and tannins. Antibacterial testing at the smallest concentration, namely 5% of the inhibition zone, is considered weak with an average inhibition diameter of 4.01 mm and at the largest concentration, namely 10%, the inhibition zone is considered strong with an average inhibition zone diameter of 11.26 mm.

Abstract

Introduction: Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) remain a major public health concern, particularly in areas with limited sanitation. Conventional staining using 2% eosin, although effective, poses drawbacks due to its non-biodegradability, toxicity, and flammability. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of ethanol extract from the fresh peel of Balangkasua fruit (Lepisanthes alata (Blume) Leenh) as a natural alternative reagent for the identification of Trichuris trichiura eggs. Method: A laboratory-based experimental design was conducted using fecal samples containing STH eggs. The fruit peel extract was prepared through maceration with ethanol and tested at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, while 2% eosin served as the positive control. Staining quality was assessed based on egg color contrast, shell clarity, internal morphology, shape and size clarity, and background staining. Result and Discussion: Results showed that the 100% extract yielded the highest score (13), categorized as good staining quality, while lower concentrations (20%–80%) were classified as moderate. The positive control consistently achieved superior results (score 19, very good). Statistical analysis using the Kruskal–Wallis test revealed significant differences among treatment groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that L. alata peel extract possesses potential as an eco-friendly alternative stain, although further optimization of extraction methods, pigment stabilization, and validation across various STH species are necessary before replacing synthetic eosin in routine diagnostics

Abstract

Ekstrak kulit buah Balangkasua (Lepisanthes alata) berpotensi digunakan sebagai pewarna alami pengganti eosin 2% pada pemeriksaan telur cacing Ascaris lumbricoides. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi efektivitas ekstrak etanol kulit buah Balangkasua dalam memberikan kontras warna dan kejelasan struktur mikroskopis telur cacing dibandingkan eosin 2%. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan metode quasi-eksperimental menggunakan sampel feses positif telur Ascaris lumbricoides. Simplisia kering kulit buah Balangkasua dimaserasi dengan etanol 96% dan diuji fitokimia untuk identifikasi antosianin. Preparat feses diwarnai dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak (20–100%) dan dibandingkan dengan kontrol eosin 2%. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kontras warna telur, kejelasan cangkang, detail morfologi internal, bentuk dan ukuran, serta kontras latar belakang. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak Balangkasua positif mengandung antosianin, namun kualitas pewarnaan pada semua konsentrasi masih lebih rendah dibandingkan eosin 2% (skor 1–3 vs. 4). Uji Kruskal–Wallis menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan pada seluruh parameter (p < 0,05). Kesimpulannya, meskipun ekstrak kulit buah Balangkasua memiliki potensi sebagai pewarna alami ramah lingkungan, efektivitasnya masih belum sebanding dengan eosin 2% sehingga perlu optimasi lebih lanjut.

Abstract

Worm infection is still a health problem in developing countries like Indonesia. The prevalence of worms in Indonesia is generally still very high, especially among the less fortunate, with poor sanitation. Diagnosis of worm infection can be made by examining preparations using 2% Eosin dye. The simplest technique for examining intestinal nematode worm eggs is the native method, this technique uses 2% eosin reagent with the following objectives: to assess the various elements in preparations or preparations. Eosin itself is not easily decomposed and creates toxic and flammable waste, so a natural dye is needed for soaking horseradish leaves (Cordyline fruticosa (L) A. Chev) as an alternative dye. ) in coloring STH worm eggs. The research design used in this study was experimental. Andong leaves were soaked using 2N HCl for 24 hours. of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% which gives effective results only at concentrations of 80% and 100%. Abstract

Buas-buas (Premna cardifolia) merupakan tanaman dari famili Verbenaceae yang merupakan tanaman obat di Indonesia. Pengobatan yang dapat diberikan untuk mengatasi infeksi yang disebabkan jamur C. albicans kebanyakan menggunakan obat-obatan kimia. Namun, penggunaan dalam jangka waktu yang lama akan menimbulkan efek samping. Oleh karena itu diperlukannya pengobatan dengan bahan alami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui senyawa fitokimia dan aktivitas antijamur menggunakan persentase penghambatan jamur. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah True Eksperimental laboratorium dengan rancangan penelitian Posttests-Only with Control Group Design. Sampel akan dibuat menjadi infusa daun buas-buas dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, dan 50%. Hasil skrining fitokimia yang terkandung dalam infusa daun buas-buas menunjukkan adanya senyawa metabolit sekunder yaitu flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, dan fenol. Hasil aktivitas antibakteri yaitu pada kontrol negatif (0%) dan konsentrasi 20% tidak terlihat zona bening, kontrol positif dengan menggunakan ketokonazol respon hambatan koloni jamur kuat, konsentrasi 10%, 40%, dan 50% respon hambatan koloni jamur lemah, sedangkan konsentrasi 30% respon hambatan koloni jamur kuat. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi 30% lebih efektif menghambat pertumbuhan jamur.
