Abstract

Abstract

Ramania (B. macrophylla Griffith) can beused as an antibacterial in the gastrointestinal tractOne of the bacteria in the digestive tract is Escherichia coli. The purpose of this study was to determine the group of compounds contained in ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) and the activity of ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) in inhibiting the growth of E. coli bacteria. Using the maceration method with methanol solvent and extract amendment of 8.6019%. Ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) contains secondary metabolite compounds namely alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by the welling method with a concentration of methanol extract of ramania leaves (B. macrophylla Griffith) which is 1,024 mg / ml; 2,048 mg/ml; 4,096 mg/ml; 8.192 mg/ml; 16,384 mg/ml; 32,760 mg/ml; positive control of ciprofloxacin 5μg/disk, and negative control of Na-CMC 0.5%. The results of the antibacterial activity test of ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) showed that the concentration of 2.048 mg / ml included the inhibition zone of the weak category, namely 3.33 mm;, while the concentration of 32,760 mg / ml included the moderate inhibition zone, namely mm; 8.48 mm and the positive control of ciprofloxacin 5μg / disk was included in the category of very strong inhibition zone, namely 22.8 mm. Based on the spss results using the Man-Whitney test the positive control and control had no difference due to the sig value (<0.05). It can be concluded that ramania leaf methanol extract (B. macrophylla Griffith) has antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria and has secondary metabolite compounds found in ramania leaves (B. macrophylla Griffith) are Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, Saponins and Steroids.

Abstract

Pare leaves (Momordica charantia L.) have many health benefits. Leaves pare (M.chrantia L.) are a trusted herb that is used as an antibacterial plant. N-hexane fraction of pare leaves(S. epidermidis). The purpose of this study is to identify the secondary metabolite compounds found in the n-hexane fraction of ethanol extract 96% of pare leaves (M.charantia L.) and to find out the N-hexane fractions of etanol 96% pare leaves (M.charantia L.) in inhibiting S.epidermidis bacteria. The type of research is experimental. The leaf extraction process uses maseration with 96% ethanol solvent and fraxination using n-hexane solvent. Phytochemical screening tests include flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, steroids/terpenoids, phenols and tannins. The antibacterial activity carried out using well method with concentration of 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%. The results of this study showed that a fraction of n-hexane ethanol extract 96% of the leaf (M.charantia L.) contained flavonoid, alkaloid and steroid compounds. The n-hexane fraction ethanol extract 96% leaf (M.charantia L.) has antibacterial activity in inhibiting the S.epidermidis bacteria in the weak to strong category. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the fraction n-hexane ethanol extract 96% of the leaf (Momordica charantia L.) is able to inhibit the bacteria S.epidermidis at all concentrations.

Abstract

Shigellosis is a digestive tract infection that can be caused by S dysenteriae bacteria. Javanese ginseng (T. paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertner) is a plant known to have antibacterial potential. This study aims to determine the content of the class of compounds contained in the 76% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves and to observe the antibacterial activity of the 70% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves against S. dysenteriae based on the diameter of the inhibition zone. Antibacterial testing using the disc diffusion method with six variations of extract concentrations including 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% for positive and negative controls used Azithromycin 15µg/disk and 0.5% Na-CMC. Identification of the content of secondary metabolites was carried out on alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, quinones, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids and tannins. The results of the screening test for 70% ethanol extract of Javanese ginseng leaves contained flavonoids, phenols, saponins, steroids and tannins. Antibacterial testing at the smallest concentration, namely 5% of the inhibition zone, is considered weak with an average inhibition diameter of 4.01 mm and at the largest concentration, namely 10%, the inhibition zone is considered strong with an average inhibition zone diameter of 11.26 mm.
