Abstract

This study aims to analyze the efficiency of a journal by examining the correlation between the number of researchers associated with the journal and the expenses borne by researchers for publication concerning the scientific strengths achieved. The analysis is conducted through the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. The data for scientific journal articles is collected from the metadata of Scopus, and WoS (Web of Science) was indexed in SINTA 1. Meanwhile, the APC (Article publication charge) data was obtained from the journal website. The input variables include the author, the editorial team, and the APC. In contrast, the output variables in this study are the scientific strength (publications and citations) generated. The study showed that the SINTA 1 journal indexed in Scopus and WoS with a DEA value of 1,000 was Operations and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal. The DEA value for journals indexed in Scopus and WoS is greater compared to the DEA value of journals indexed in WoS, as opposed to the DEA value of journals indexed in Scopus, but the difference is small.

Abstract

This study evaluates the efficiency of Indonesian Library and Information Science journals indexed by SINTA by applying Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) using a Variable Return to Scale (VRS) model. The primary aim is to assess the performance of these journals to identify areas of strength and inefficiency. The study encompasses twenty-one journals, which served as decision-making units (DMUs). The input variables considered include Article Processing Charges (APC), Editorial Team, Number of Authors, and Number of Publications, while the output variables were Number of Citations and H5-Index. Data were collected from journal websites and the Sinta database covering 2018 to 2022. The analysis was conducted using MaxDEA software. An efficiency score of 1 indicated an efficient journal, whereas scores below 1 denoted inefficiency. The study reveals six journals as efficient: Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan, Khizanah Al-Hikmah: Jurnal Ilmu Perpustakaan, Informasi, dan Kearsipan, IQRA': Jurnal Perpustakaan dan Informasi, Bibliotech: Jurnal Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi, PUBLIS (Publication Library and Information Science), and Imam Bonjol Journal: Kajian Ilmu Informasi dan Perpustakaan. However, most journals were found to be inefficient, with an average efficiency score of 0.809. These findings are significant as they provide valuable insights for journal editors and policymakers. The results offer guidance on optimizing resource allocation and developing strategies to enhance the quality and impact of scholarly publications within the Library and Information Science field.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to discover the information-seeking behaviour of coastal communities in Southeast Sulawesi, which has the second highest marine catch (fish) income in Indonesia, despite the fact that the majority of its territory is made up of oceans, but the people's income is still low and less prosperous, as evidenced by the export value of marine catches still falling under East Java, Jakarta, and South Sulawesi. The data for this study were collected from 105 respondents who used a quantitative technique to fill out a list of information seeking behaviour, while 10 respondents used a qualitative approach, namely in-depth interviews about the hurdles experienced when seeking information. According to the findings of this study, the information seeking behaviour of coastal populations in Southeast Sulawesi is still manual, that is, they still use experiences and feelings by 45.8% of the time, and the barriers they confront in obtaining information are related to technology by 29.1% of the time. The outcomes of the study are directly related to the income obtained by the coastal villages of Southeast Sulawesi, which is still poor and less prosperous

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the self-citation behavior of the ten most productive lecturers at Halu Oleo University using a bibliometric approach. Employing the Fi-Index method for self-citation analysis, the research followed three main stages: data collection, data processing, and data analysis. The data were obtained from the Scopus database, focusing on the top ten productive lecturers at the institution. Each lecturer's self-citation activity was measured using the Fi-Index formula, which compares the number of self-citations relative to their h-index. The findings revealed that all ten lecturers demonstrated self-citation patterns within a normal range. Muhammad Nurdin recorded the highest number of self-citations (867) with a Fi-Index score of 0.047572, followed by Maulidiyah (654, Fi-Index 0.043446), and others with similarly low Fi-Index scores ranging from 0.002096 to 0.043446. These values indicate that their self-citation practices do not exceed what is typically considered acceptable relative to their publication impact. The study concludes that the Fi-Index is a practical tool for evaluating the proportionality of self-citations among academic authors. It is recommended that future research apply the Fi-Index more broadly to assess self-citation behaviors among researchers across institutions and disciplines, ensuring a balanced interpretation of scholarly influence.

Abstract

Research in Library and Information Science (LIS) and Health has substantial applicability, including its use as a reference in the development of policy documents. This study aims to conduct a thematic mapping of policy documents that draw upon LIS and Health research. Using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method and Python-based machine learning, the research followed stages of data collection, filtering, processing, and analysis. The findings show that the Journal of Health Communication is the most frequently cited journal, with 1,756 citations. The United States emerges as the country that most extensively incorporates LIS and Health research into policy documents, accounting for 1,181 citations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is identified as the institution producing the highest number of policy documents referencing LIS and Health research, with 840 publications. The peak year for such publications was 2019, with a total of 384 documents. Thematic mapping reveals five dominant topics in these policy documents: Health Prevention, Youth Health, Science Dissemination, Risk Evaluation, and Development Strategies. The study highlights that LIS and Health research plays not only an academic role but also serves as a normative and strategic foundation for national policy formulation. Future research may apply similar methods to other disciplinary domains or conduct longitudinal analyses to identify thematic developments in policy documents over time.
