Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the role of internal auditors in improving the performance of non-profit organizations. To achieve this goal, this research uses a systematic literature review method. In non-profit organizations, performance is often measured by looking at the social impact and sustainability of programs as well as financial gains. Internal auditors are very important to ensure that the organization operates well and complies with regulations and ethics. This research identifies various components that influence the performance of internal auditors; these include management support, independence, and competence. Additionally, the lack of resources and the complexity of measuring non-financial performance are specific issues faced by internal auditors in non-profit environments, which are the focus of this research. The results of this literature review indicate that internal auditors can improve the performance of non-profit organizations by providing honest assessments and valuable recommendations. According to this research, non-profit organizations should strengthen their internal audit functions and ensure that internal auditors are continuously trained to address emerging issues. These findings are expected to help academics and practitioners understand how to maximize the role of internal auditors in the non-profit sector.

Abstract

Employee competitive advantage has become a critical factor in enhancing organizational performance and sustainability, particularly in technology-driven industries such as nickel mining. However, the mechanisms through which human resource factors contribute to employee competitive advantage remain insufficiently understood, especially in the context of digital transformation. This study aims to examine the effects of Employee Satisfaction, Quality of Work Life, Transformational Leadership, Compensation, and Employee Engagement on Employee Competitive Advantage, with Digital Technology as a mediating variable and Work Motivation as a moderating variable. A quantitative research design was employed using a survey method. Data were collected from employees working in nickel mining companies in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that Quality of Work Life, Transformational Leadership, Compensation, and Employee Engagement have significant positive effects on Employee Competitive Advantage, whereas Employee Satisfaction does not directly influence Employee Competitive Advantage. Furthermore, all human resource factors significantly affect Digital Technology utilization, with Transformational Leadership emerging as the strongest predictor. Digital Technology was found to have the strongest direct effect on Employee Competitive Advantage and significantly mediates the relationships between all human resource factors and employee competitiveness. In addition, Work Motivation significantly strengthens the relationships among human resource factors, Digital Technology, and Employee Competitive Advantage. These findings highlight the strategic role of Digital Technology in transforming organizational resources into competitive capabilities and demonstrate that digital transformation serves as a critical mechanism linking human resource practices to employee competitiveness. This study contributes to the literature by integrating human resource management, digital transformation, and competitive advantage perspectives within a single framework and provides empirical evidence from Indonesia’s nickel mining industry. The findings offer practical implications for organizations seeking to strengthen workforce competitiveness through the integration of human resource development, digital technology adoption, and employee motivation initiatives.

Abstract

This study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of organizational culture and HR practices on employee performance in Indonesian vocational schools, focusing on the mediating roles of internal communication and compensation. Using a cross sectional survey of 285 staff and PLS-SEM analysis, the research finds both organizational culture and HR practices directly enhance performance (Anwar & Abdullah, 2021; Li & Zhang, 2022). Additionally, internal communication and compensation partially mediate these relationships. Specifically, organizational culture strongly predicts communication effectiveness (Singh & Gupta, 2022), while HR practices significantly influence compensation fairness perceptions (Park & Lee, 2021). The cross-sectional design limits causal inference, suggesting need for longitudinal future research. Practical implications indicate that school administrators should simultaneously develop collaborative cultures and structured HR systems (Darmawan & Santoso, 2022; Kurniawan & Setiawan, 2023), as these synergistically improve performance through clearer communication and equitable remuneration. This study's integrated model uniquely positions communication and compensation as central mediating mechanisms within vocational education.
