Abstract

It cannot be denied that we need a language to communicate with each other in our life. Lado (1964:9) stated that language is the chief means by which human personality expresses and fulfills its basic needs for social interaction with other people. By using language, someone’s opinion could be understood by others. Without language it is impossible for everyone to understand others’ opinion or idea. Everybody should realize that interaction and relation in a social will be empty without language. Preposition in this little words in English (Wishon and Burks, 1980: 288). In preposition of time many students find some troubles; they can’t construct the sentences correctly. Descriptive method and the instrument is test. The type of test is completion test, by which the writer asks the students to complete the sentences. The writer conducted the test only one time. The subjects of research is how far by the Second Year Students of Language Program at SMA Negeri Niki-Niki, Amanuban Tengah Subdistrict, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency, East Nusa Tenggara In The School Year 2023/2024 able to use the preposition of time? And the total numbers of students are 24 students. Keywords : language, time, preposition

Abstract

This study analysis the figurative language used in the album's song lyrics Adele “30”. The songwriter plays with words and language to create power attractiveness and uniqueness of the song lyrics. Figurative language has the ability to more impact on readers. This study aims to answer two research problems, namely: (1) To identify the types of figurative language used in the lyrics of Adele's album track "30". (2) Analysis the meaning of language allusion contained in the lyrics of Adele's album song “30”. Data analysis based on figurative language theory put forward by Xu Youzhi (2005) and the theory of meaning put forward by Rozakis (1995). The results of this study shows that there are 5 types of figurative language found in Adele's album “30”. They are simile, personification, metaphor, hyperbole, irony, and. This study found (1 simile, 10 personifications, 4 metaphors, 7 hyperboles, 1 irony). And vice versa in analysing the meaning contextual research found several types of meaning used in song lyrics, namely the stylistic figurative language.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the meaning contained in the Bau Lolon ceremony for the people of Puhu Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency. The benefits of this study are that theoretically the results of this research are useful for (1) developing theoretical concepts as well as procedures and benefits of carrying out the Bau Lolon ceremony for the people of Puhu Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency; (2) Can add insight and cultural knowledge related to traditional rituals. While the practical benefits are (1) as input for the East Flores government to keep and maintain the meaning of the Bau Lolon ritual for the people of Puhu Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency; (2) as reference material and information in studying culture in the people of Puhu Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency; and (3) as an alternative material for local content lessons in schools. The theory used is the hermeneutical theory. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that the meaning contained in the Bau Lolon ceremony for the people of Puhu Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency is as follows: (1) Religious meaning; (2) The meaning of respect for the ancestors; (3) The meaning of application and protection; and (4) cultural meaning.

Abstract

Bahasa Melayu Kupang merupakan bahasa yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Kupang dan daerah sekitar Ibu Kota Nusa Tenggara Timur. Ia memiliki beberapa fungsi sebagai alat untuk mengkomunikasikan dan menyampaikan ide, perasaan dan tindakan pembicara. Cara penutur menyampaikan ekspresi, menekankan gagasan, dan memberikan tanda disebut komunikasi fatis. Tulisan ini mencoba mengidentifikasi sebaran, fungsi dan makna frasa fatik dalam bahasa Melayu Kupang yang ditekankan pada penuturnya untuk mengungkapkan pengetahuan atau pengalaman (kognitif) dan keinginan (konatif). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) bentuk frase fatik BMK dapat tersebar di awal, tengah dan di akhir, (2) fungsi utama frase fatik BMK adalah untuk mengungkapkan pengetahuan atau pengalaman (kognisi), mengungkapkan persahabatan ( menghilangkan jarak sosial) ditinjau dari segi kekuasaan dan solidaritas, dan (3) makna ungkapan fatis BMK terdiri atas makna asertif, makna direktif, makna ekspresif, dan makna deklaratif.

Abstract

Tulisan ini berjudul "Afiksasi dalam Bahasa Sabu Dialek Seba yang Digunakan oleh Orang Sabu di Desa Matawaiatu Kabupaten Sumba Timur". Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah (1) apa saja bentuk-bentuk afiks yang terdapat dalam bahasa Sabu dialek Seba. (2) Apa saja fungsi afiks dalam Bahasa Sabu Dialek Seba? Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mengetahui bentuk-bentuk afiks yang terdapat dalam bahasa Sabu dialek Seba (2) Untuk mengetahui fungsi afiks yang terdapat dalam bahasa Sabu dialek Seba. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penerjemahan dan metode analitik. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan afiks dalam bahasa Sabu yaitu {pe-, he-, ke-, dan ta-}.

Abstract

This study aims to develop English writing skills through the use of short stories for grade XI students of SMA N Amanuban Timur. Writing in English is an important skill that students must master, both for academic purposes and daily life. However, many students face difficulties in organizing ideas in a structured manner and mastering the use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Therefore, the use of short stories as a learning method is an effective and interesting solution to improve writing skills. This method involves several stages, starting from analyzing the structure of short stories, selecting themes that match students' interests, to the process of writing stories. In addition, peer review or peer feedback sessions are conducted to provide constructive feedback, which allows students to improve and develop their writing. The results of this study showed that the short story approach successfully improved students' writing skills, enriched their vocabulary, and increased their confidence in speaking and writing in English. Thus, this method can be an effective alternative in learning English at the high school level.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to empower residents of Manulai II Sub-district, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara, through the utilization of Community Economic Empowerment Funds (PEM) and home yard land for the cultivation of horticultural and medicinal plants, combined with entrepreneurship education for adults. The main problems addressed were the low utilization of yard land and PEM funds for productive purposes, as well as the lack of entrepreneurial knowledge among the community. The implementation methods included community education through counseling sessions, technical training, cultivation demonstrations, and entrepreneurship mentoring. A total of 25 adult participants took part in a series of training and hands-on practices. Evaluation results through pre-test and post-test instruments showed significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in both cultivation and entrepreneurship aspects. Additionally, participants demonstrated initiative in developing small-scale home-based businesses. The conclusion of this activity is that an integrative approach involving PEM fund utilization, yard optimization, and entrepreneurship education has proven effective in enhancing the local community’s economic capacity. This model has the potential to be replicated in other areas with similar social conditions and local resources
