Abstract

Bukit Samang, is one of the villages in Sendana District, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi. The livestock sector in this village is very developed, especially goat farming. Based on the results of observations in the field, the problem faced by the local community is the lack of veterinary medical personnel in the field, so goat health problems are not quickly resolved, causing farmers to experience losses. There is a lot of potential for plants that can be processed into traditional medicines to treat or prevent disease. The initial stage in mapping partner problems is to carry out a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which aims to discover the issues Bukit Harapan Farmer Group partners face in Bukit Samang Village. The following are the problems partners face: First, Animal Health Problems. Sudden deaths often occur in goats due to late handling and treatment of sick livestock. Second: HR problems; Farmers' knowledge of plants that have potential as alternative/traditional medicines is still low. The solution offered is education on introducing diseases in goats and plants with potential as conventional medicines and training in making herbal medicines. It also produces new entrepreneurs who can create herbal medicine for livestock labeled "Batra Candy." Methods for implementing activities are initial survey preparation, determining partner targets, and implementing activity programs, namely participatory counseling, training, guidance, and mentoring. The training method is carried out with training in making herbal medicines; the final stage is monitoring and evaluation. From the analysis of questionnaires given to partners before and after service activities, there was an increase in the percentage of partners' knowledge regarding livestock health from 36% to 82%, breeders' knowledge regarding plants that have potential as alternative/traditional medicines also increased in percentage, namely before partner service activities. Did not know this potential (0%) then the rate increased to 92%. In general, implementing this activity informs livestock group members that several plants can be processed into livestock herbal candy, which has healing properties and prevents disease in livestock, to increase livestock production performance and breeder income.

Abstract

The sales volume in broiler chicken marketing carried out by traders in the market can be influenced by many factors. One of the factors that can influence sales volume is the selling price of chickens, therefore this research aims to analyze the influence of selling prices on sales of broiler chickens in the Majene central market. This research was carried out from June to July 2023 at the Majene Central Market, with 10 broiler chicken traders as respondents.  The data obtained was processed using simple linear regression analysis. The results of the research show that the selling price has a significant effect on the sales volume of broiler chickens in Majene's central market with an influence of 60.2% and 39.8% is influenced by other factors, with the explanation that if the selling price of broiler chickens rises by one thousand rupiah, then the sales volume will decrease as many as 6 individuals. The novelty in this research is that there has been no similar research carried out in the Majene central market, so the results of this research can be a reference for traders in determining prices to maximize profits obtained.

Abstract

This research aims to exploit the potential of sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) as a bioacaricide on Boophilus microplus ticks. This research used a completely randomized design method with ticks as the research object. There were five treatments in this study, two of which were in the positive control group (Kututox) and negative control (Aquades), and three treatments in the group were given sappan wood infusion with concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Each treatment consisted of 5 replications, each replication using five ticks. The sappan wood infusion bioacaricide test was carried out in vitro, and tick death was observed for 5 hours with observation time every hour after spraying. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way variance, followed by the LSD test. Then, a probit analysis of LC50 and LC90 was performed to determine the concentration of sappan wood infusion that can kill ticks, and LT50 and LT90 were used to determine the time of death of B. microplus ticks. The research results showed that sappan wood infusion with a concentration of 75% effectively killed 50% of Boophilus microplus ticks at 0.67 hours and killed 90% of Boophilus microplus ticks at 1.17 hours. Sappan wood infusion can be an alternative bioacaricide to kill Boophilus microplus ticks

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effects of coconut water kefir (CWK) supplementation on the production performance, carcass characteristics, and gastrointestinal tract morphology of broiler chickens. A total of 400 broiler chickens were used and divided into four treatment groups with five replicates, each containing 20 chickens. The study followed a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment groups were as follows: T0 (control, no CWK supplementation), T1 (5% CWK), T2 (10% CWK), and T3 (15% CWK). The results indicated that CWK supplementation significantly influenced production performance, including feed intake, final body weight, weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and feed efficiency ratio. Furthermore, CWK supplementation also had a significant effect on carcass traits, such as carcass weight, breast percentage, thigh percentage, and abdominal fat, as well as on gastrointestinal tract parameters, including jejunum percentage, jejunum length, and ileum length. The optimal results were obtained from the 10% CWK supplementation (T2). In conclusion, CWK supplementation effectively improved the production performance, carcass yield, and gastrointestinal tract development in broiler chickens.
