Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify and analyse the hydration status and liver function of young men before and during Ramadan fasting (RF). The study design was a prospective cohort into 1st period (one week before fasting) and 2nd period (the last ten days of fasting). The subjects were 18 healthy young men (19-30 years old). Data on dietary intake were collected using food record 3x24h, body composition were collected using bioelectrical impedance analyser (BIA), hydration status and liver function data were measured trough urine and blood sample. This study showed significant differences in body weight, fat body mass, body mass index (BMI), body water, intake of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and water, hydration status (serum osmolality and urine density), and liver function (SGOT and SGPT levels) before and during RF (p<0.05). There were significant correlation between fasting status and SGPT levels (p<0.05). The study concluded that Ramadhan fasting has a positive effect to control body weight and improve liver function measured by SGOT and SGPT levels.

Abstract

Introduction: Perceived breast milk insufficiency during early postpartum is a major contributor to the failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Oxytocin massage is a non-pharmacological intervention that may enhance milk ejection reflex, particularly with spousal involvement. Objective: This study aimed to analyze changes in breast milk adequacy indicators following husband-performed oxytocin massage based on infant defecation frequency and sleep duration. Methods: A quasi-experimental one group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 29 postpartum mothers selected purposively in Bajeng and Pabbentengan Primary Health Centers, Gowa Regency. Husbands performed oxytocin massage for three consecutive postpartum days. Breast milk adequacy was assessed using infant defecation frequency and sleep duration. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test (p < 0.05). Results: Infant defecation frequency increased significantly from pretest to day three posttest (p < 0.001). Infant sleep duration showed no significant difference on day one (p = 0.141), but significant increases were observed on day two (p = 0.032) and day three (p = 0.007). Conclusion: Husband-performed oxytocin massage was associated with improvements in breast milk adequacy indicators during early postpartum. However, due to the absence of a control group, causal inference should be interpreted cautiously.

Abstract

Anthropometry is a direct technique for evaluatingnutritional status, especially protein and energy levels of the body. One of the efforts to develop competent and skilled cadres in anthropometric measurements is through training techniques. To determine the relationship between knowledge, role, motivation and length of service of Posyandu cadres towards the use of anthropometric tools at the Topo Health Center UPTD.Method:This type of research is observational analytic using Cross Sectional Study. The research sample amounted to 30 cadres from 3 active posyandu. Data analysis used the Statistical Program For Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0.Results:Chi Square Testshows that there is no relationship between cadre knowledge and the use of anthropometric tools based on the measurement of the foot scale and stadiometer (p-value> 0.05). There is a relationship between cadre knowledge and the use of anthropometric tools based on the measurement ofLiLa, infantometer, and head circumference (p-value <0.05). While the relationship between work period and the use of anthropometric tools and the relationship between motivation and the use of anthropometric tools is not related (p-value> 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between cadre knowledge and the use of anthropometric tools (measurement ofLiLa, infantometer, and head circumference). There is no significant relationship between work period and the use of anthropometric tools, as well as motivation and the use of anthropometric tools. Suggestion: it is hoped that cadre training will be held frequently and will be improved and more active in using anthropometric tools.
