The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social support and Batak values on self-acceptance in fathers who have children with special needs (ABK). The research method used is a quantitative approach using data analysis techniques, namely multiple linear regression analysis by applying SPSS 22 with independent variables, social support and Batak values, and dependent variables, namely self-acceptance. The study sample consisted of 44 fathers who had ABK, using purposive sampling techniques.  The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the application of SPSS 22.  The results showed that social support and Batak values negatively affect the acceptance of fathers who have children with special needs, which means that the higher the social support and Batak values, the lower the acceptance of fathers. Keywords: Self-acceptance, Social Support, Batak Values, Children with Special Needs

Abstract

The Batak ethnic group is ranked as the third-largest ethnic group in Indonesia after the Javanese and Sundanese ethnic groups. As one of the ethnic groups that still strongly uphold their traditions, the Batak ethnic group experiences many conflicts within their community. This becomes a stress trigger for individuals of the Batak ethnic group if they are unable to meet the demands of their traditions, which can ultimately threaten their well-being. This research aims to develop a model of the influence of Batak values and perceived organizational support on the psychological well-being of Batak civil servants in North Sumatera. This research uses an explanatory survey method with descriptive and verificative analysis. Based on disproportionate sampling techniques, the study was conducted on 636 civil servants in five regencies and cities in North Sumatera. The model testing uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on component/variance, specifically the Partial Least Square (PLS) technique, with the SmartPLS software. The results of the study indicate that the Batak values, which are used as a guide in the lives of Batak civil servants, and their positive perceptions of the institutions where they work, simultaneously influence the psychological well-being of Batak civil servants. The variables Hamoraon, Hagabeon, Hasangapon, and perceived organizational support collectively contribute 41% to the psychological well-being of Batak civil servants in North Sumatera. Therefore, the position of Batak values and perceived organizational support is very important, as these two variables have a significant impact on the psychological well-being of Batak Toba civil servants in North Sumatera.

Abstract

Quarter Life Crisis is a situation experienced by individuals entering early adulthood or what is known as the process of emerging adulthood, when they feel pressured by various demands that must be done to become adults. Early adults who experience a quarter life crisis sometimes take steps to withdraw from the environment due to shame, fear, or feeling incompatible with others, resulting in loneliness. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between loneliness and quarter life crisis in early adulthood in Medan City. The subjects in this study were early adults aged 20 to 29 years who were in Medan City, with a sample size of 150 people. This study used a quantitative method with a sampling technique in this study was simple random sampling. The measuring instruments used were the quarter life crisis scale and the loneliness scale version 3 (UCLA). The results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship between the loneliness variable and the quarter life crisis, with a correlation value of 0.613 with p = 0.000 <0.05, which means that the research hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the higher the loneliness experienced by early adults, the higher the quarter life crisis, conversely, the lower the loneliness, the lower the quarter life crisis in early adults in Medan City.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of psychological well-being and self-esteem on loneliness of migrant students. The researchers used a quantitative approach, involving 108 migrant students in Medan, who were selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data collection in the study used the Ryff's psychological well-being scale, Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES), and the loneliness scale according to Peplau and Perlman. Analysis of research data used multiple linear regression techniques. Based on the simultaneous significance test result of 0.000>0.005, it means that self- esteem and psychological well-being simultaneously have a negative effect on loneliness, meaning that the higher the psychological well-being, the lower the level of loneliness. Conversely, loneliness will increase if psychological well-being decreases. The researchers found that 16% of the loneliness variable can be explained by psychological well-being and self-esteem, which shows a significant contribution of both variables in reducing feelings of loneliness in individuals.

Abstract

The transition from adolescence to early adulthood involves various emotional and social challenges. This study examined the relationship between self-acceptance and self-confidence with quarter-life crisis among early adults in Medan. Using a quantitative design and purposive sampling, data were collected from 369 individuals aged 20–40 years through Likert-type psychological scales. Data analysis using multiple linear regression showed that both self-acceptance and self-confidence significantly correlated with quarter-life crisis (p < 0.05), with an R² value of 0.336. This indicates that the two variables explain 33.6% of the variance in quarter-life crisis. Higher self-acceptance and self-confidence were associated with lower levels of quarter-life crisis. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on internal psychological factors in an Indonesian urban context. These findings underscore the importance of psychological support programs in enhancing self-perception and resilience among young adults.
