Abstract

Mining operations pose a significant threat to biodiversity and the livelihood of community people. Residents living near the mining sites must adjust to the changes brought about by the onset of mining activity, especially with their lost livelihood. Mining companies must provide alternative livelihood for residents to ensure sustainability. However, some livelihoods are not aligned with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order 2022-004. This study assessed the alignment of livelihood projects, reasons for not passing the Biodiversity Friendly Enterprise (BDFE) index, and suggested livelihood projects. The questionnaire gathered items indicated from the administrative order as a standard for passing the said index. The result revealed that most livelihood projects do not conform to the administrative order. The most glaring issues are the financial constraints and insufficient information about the BDFE index. Proposed livelihood projects on Traditional Hilot and Cacao Production proved to be highly supported in preserving traditional practices and furthering agricultural industries. Enhancing our capacity, improving project planning processes, and incorporating community feedback into livelihood projects to achieve better outcomes is essential. This will increase compliance with the DAO guidelines and promote sustainable community development. Additionally, these findings have implications for better adoption of the BDFE Index, as it is crucial to provide enhanced information and address financial constraints.

Abstract

Sustainable marketing strategies play a vital role in helping multinational companies balance sustainability and profitability. However, local studies investigating micro, small, and medium enterprises’ (MSMEs) understanding, adoption, or implementation of these strategies at the barangay level were underexplored. This descriptive-correlational study examined the correlation between the importance and the effectiveness of sustainable marketing practices among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) owners operating in Mabolo, Cebu City. The study drew 240 respondents from a population of 633 using Raosoft, an online sample size calculator, and selected them randomly to participate in data gathering. The authors utilized an adapted tool to gather data from the respondents. Frequency count, weighted mean, and Pearson correlation were used in the data analysis. Based on the study’s results, the interpretation of the correlation between the level of importance and the level of effectiveness implemented by MSME owners showed positive and strong results. Also, it was found that MSMEs place greater importance on sustainable marketing strategies, and their effectiveness in implementing them also tends to increase. A green marketing framework was recommended to address the lack of importance, as it helps MSME owners improve their sustainable marketing strategies.

Abstract

Employees constitute the definitive business resource for enhancing product quality and service excellence and consequently amplifying customer satisfaction. Without adequate training and development (T&D), employees would invariably be inept at unleashing their full potential. This study investigated the mechanisms employed in T&D programs for rank-and-file employees of several hotels in Cebu City. The study employed a quantitative method in a descriptive research design obtaining information from 71 respondents. Slovin's approach and convenience sampling were used. The weighted mean was employed in tabulation and quantification process. The findings revealed that respondents considered programmed instructions, job rotation, job simulation, role modeling, lectures, and team training to be very effective in the training programs. The authors concluded that these mechanisms if appropriately and situationally tweaked and rationalized, will result in more precise and targeted response to training issues leading to service excellence and customer satisfaction. A set of appropriate recommendations was drafted for possible use by establishments similarly situated

Abstract

The study looked into the various significant financial challenges faced by business administration students of one of Dumaguete City's state colleges. Corollary to this objective, their current financial practices were also examined. Information from 308 respondents was gathered using a quantitative research method using Cochran’s approach and convenience sampling technique was used in the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used. And several published research articles influenced the development of the instrument. The data was evaluated using weighted mean and ranking. The findings revealed that the two most common financial challenges students had grappled with throughout their moderately difficult college years were obtaining a part-time job to supplement their parent-financed school allowance and not being able to purchase internet data to attend online classes. One of the students' major financial practices is to save as much money as possible, markedly considered as highly practiced in the study. Business administration students were moderately challenged by the recognized elements of financial challenges while being slightly practiced as described under Financial Challenges. Students are good at saving money and not buying things (that may pose a financial risk), in addition to working part-time. Further, the study suggested that the school administration conceive and implement a comprehensive financial education, elevate the level of students’ financial quotient by embedding financial courses in the curricula of programs, and consistently provide a series of seminars and workshops on the subject. Conducting pre-program and mid-program surveys may also determine the effectiveness of the program.

Abstract

The development of the economy must be strategically reflected in the transportation infrastructure. Traffic issues will arise as the econ-omy expands, which will impede that expansion. Even if the govern-ment does its part to solve the issue, citizens still have problems. The study investigated how Davao City residents perceived current traf-fic-related issues and their detrimental effects. The study used a quan-titative approach with a descriptive research methodology. The study selected 75 residents of Davao City who have encountered traffic is-sues using purposive sampling. Frequency distribution and percent-ages were used to assess the data that had been gathered. The results indicated that unlawful parking of vehicles and high volumes of vehicles on the road were ranked first and second on the list of existing prob-lems; in the same way, delay and time wastage were the respondents’ dominant adverse effects. Thus, the study concludes that multi-level car parking must be added as a strategic solution to the ongoing prob-lem. Moreover, the researchers suggest a multi-level car parking plan considering all vital parts that help potential and existin

Abstract

The adverse effects of the ongoing pandemic caused big corporations to incur financial losses, which resulted in shrinkage of sales, increasing costs, and retrenchment. The entities' financial resilience was questioned, challenged, and business operations were paralyzed during the pandemic. Based on their market capitalization, this paper examined the top three listed companies in the Philippine Stock Exchange’s selected financial ratios if there were significant differences before and during the pandemic. Quantitative research using secondary data was used to quantify the mean and paired t-test based on the selected financial ratios. The results revealed that the current ratio, quick ratio, debt ratio, debt to equity, asset to equity, net profit margin, and return on assets had no significant effect on financial performance before and during the pandemic. Eventually, the return on equity showed a significant effect in the study. Therefore, presenting the findings, the study concluded that these companies were inefficient in generating profits and had a significantly high level of debt during the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, a discussion about the benefits for the policymakers, potential and existing investors, and future researchers was also provided.

Abstract

This research was undertaken to understand the customer segments of the Cebu Institute of Technology- University using demographic, geographic, and socio-economic lenses. At the same time, this study also determined the students' technological capacity, technical capability, and willingness to enroll in the University's second summer term of 2020. The study used a descriptive research method to obtain data from 2,133 college students as the respondents using random sampling. Based on data gathered from the six colleges of the University, from first- to fifth-year levels, the closure of schools led them to go back to their provinces, resulting in the geographic distribution of respondents, with 48% situated outside of Cebu City. Moreover, one of the most significant impacts of the pandemic is the decline of combined household income from a mean of P34, 591.22 pre-pandemic to P23,923.85 during the pandemic when community quarantines were still enforced. Additionally, 72% of respondents have limited to moderate internet connectivity, sourced majorly from mobile data at 66% and personal or family-owned Wi-Fi at 50%. Widely used devices used at home were mobile phones at 97% and laptop computers at 56%. Recommendations included providing financial support through university-based and third-party programs and conducting marketing initiatives targeting the higher-income class to cushion the global economic crisis's negative financial impact.

Abstract

Teachers must be relevant in their teaching style to respond effectively to the challenges brought about by environmental changes. This study measured how well the teachers could utilize various styles and methods to create meaningful teaching-learning experiences. This study determined the gap between the full use of styles, methods, and the current practices in the university in Cebu City to bridge the current practices with what is perceived to be ideal. The research design made use of the quantitative method. Using a stratified sampling technique, the data were collected from 2,683 respondents through questionnaires for teaching styles and teaching performance. The respondents came in three clusters: namely, teachers, students, and administrators in six colleges. Based on the findings, the various teaching styles ranged from being practiced often to being always practiced, and their teaching performance ranged from very good to excellent. A seminar-workshop was proposed to improve the areas of teaching styles and teaching performance with the lowest ratings. In the seminar, teachers will be introduced to the core principles related to the topics and will engage in activities designed for principle integration in actual classroom situations. Furthermore, periodic 360-degree performance evaluations shall be conducted to ensure adherence and compliance with the agreed core principles.

Abstract

This study aims to ascertain the degree of impact and likelihood of the various risks, as well as the risk management method implementation among lodging facilities. In addition, the study took into account the link between the likelihood and impact of the various risks. To achieve this goal, a quantitative method engaging in a descriptive approach was with 128 respondents from 30 establishments who got involved in the study from the top management to rank and file through a self-completed survey. The level of the risk management process among the establishments showed a "slightly high level" of risk management implementation that signifies vulnerability to risks and could be detrimental to the establishment. To ensure impacts are regulated and the likelihood of happening will be controlled numerous risks based on the risk spectrum need to be addressed, treated, watched for, and reviewed. The results also revealed no significant relationships between the various types of risks, except people risks, which had a slight but favorable association between its impact and likelihood, which caused the null hypothesis to be rejected. According to the study's findings, firms should not take any risks lightly, regardless of how serious or likely they are as long as they present a threat. If risks are not properly handled, they can exacerbate or escalate their impact or likelihood. Moreover, a risk management plan based on ISO 31000-2009 needed to be proposed to have a more structured and systematic process.

Abstract

Amidst this global health pandemic, contractors are facing many challenges they never experienced before. With the widespread workplace changes, business sustainability has been in the spotlight. This descriptive-correlational-comparative research delved into resilience, change management, and business sustainability among the respondents of the selected PCAB-accredited contractors in Cebu City in 2022. The study's findings indicated that the respondents are very resilient, ready for change, and have a very positive note on business sustainability. The relationship between variables was shown in this paper, including the respondents' perceptions of the variables considered when grouped as officers and rank-and-file employees. The following conclusion is that even if the quantitative findings are on the higher end of the scale, more needs to be done to maintain them over a long period. Contractors must plan to be ready for any situation, even major disasters or unforeseen events. Making a crisis management strategy and business continuity dynamics will be very helpful for organizations. Additionally, the PCAB Contractors must be strong and resilient in times of unpredictability, complexity, ambiguity, and volatility to be ready for anything that may arise. To raise the levels of resilience, readiness for change management, and business sustainability among the staff of the chosen PCAB-registered construction enterprises in Cebu City, a thorough business continuity plan and business continuity dynamics were developed.
