The research is based on 30 analyzed data according to the objectives of this study, namely form, meaning, and function. This study yielded 11 data of anthropomorphic figure metaphors, 6 data of abstract to concrete metaphorical forms, and 13 data of synesthetic metaphorical forms found based on Parera's theory. The meaning of metaphorical figures in this study shows various perspectives. Through the analysis of Lakoff and Johnson's theory on metaphor, the research reveals the complexity of emotions, internal conflicts, and spiritual journeys of humans through the use of metaphorical language. Meanwhile, the functions of metaphorical figures in the poetry collection "Sebelum Sendiri" encompass the main functions of metaphors identified and analyzed based on Roman Jakobson's theory, namely the aesthetic function, where metaphors are used to create beautiful imagery and provide an aesthetic dimension to language, as well as the emotive function, where metaphors are used to convey emotional atmosphere in poetry.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of digital dystopia in The Matrix film series through Jean Baudrillard’s simulacra theory and Tom Moylan’s critical dystopia framework. Using qualitative analysis of key scenes and dialogues, the research traces the evolution of control mechanisms from physical oppression to psychological and biological manipulation. The franchise progresses through four stages of simulacra: reflection of reality (counterfeit), concealment (production), autonomous simulation, and hyperreality. Findings reveal how digital capitalism weaponizes narratives, eroding critical consciousness through algorithmic curation, deepfakes, and neuromarketing. While the films offer a robust critique of Western technocapitalism, their Eurocentric lens may overlook non-Western manifestations of digital authoritarianism, such as China’s Social Credit System. The study highlights real-world parallels, including social media’s role in polarization and AI’s capacity to hijack emotional networks. Practical implications call for algorithmic transparency, ethical AI governance, and critical digital literacy. Future research should explore dystopian narratives from the Global South to decentralize the discourse and address localized forms of digital oppression.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive study aiming to reveal the power structure within the social conflicts depicted in the film Badik Titipan Ayah directed by Dedi Setiadi. The approach used is Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, which views language as a social practice that reflects power relations. Data were obtained through content analysis of the film’s dialogues that illustrate forms of dominance and social control. The results show that power is represented through characters such as Karaeng Tiro, who imposes his will on family members, and through social pressure directed at those who resist social and traditional norms. Language functions as a tool of control, affirmation of social status, and construction of identity. These findings confirm that the social conflicts portrayed in the film are inseparable from the power structures operating through discourse.
