Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines strategies for improving speaking proficiency in Indonesian Language for Foreign Learners (ILFL) through culturally integrated instruction. Using qualitative data from interviews with 15 learners and 10 instructors, five key strategies were identified: task-based learning, cultural immersion, peer interaction, constructive feedback, and multimedia use. These methods provide learners with real-life contexts, reduce speaking anxiety, and build confidence. Cultural immersion, in particular, enhances learners’ understanding of Indonesian society and supports meaningful communication. Peer activities promote collaboration and fluency, while multimedia resources expose learners to natural speech and varied accents. The findings confirm the value of integrating cultural content into ILFL teaching practices. This study recommends incorporating these strategies into ILFL curriculum and teacher training programs to foster both linguistic and intercultural competence among learners.

Abstract

This This study investigates the effectiveness of Gimkit, a game-based learning tool, in improving the reading skills of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Karya Sakti. The main objective of this research is to explore how using Gimkit, an interactive learning tool, can enhance students' reading skill.  The research used a quantitative experimental design with two groups: one experimental class used Gimkit during reading lessons, while the control class followed traditional textbook-based instruction. Both groups took a pre-test before the lessons and a post-test after the lessons to measure improvement. The tests assessed vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s scores, with an average increase of 16.80 points. A paired sample t-test confirmed the improvement was statistically significant (t = -10.602, p < .001). These findings suggest that Gimkit helps enhance reading skills by making learning more interactive and engaging. Features like instant feedback, rewards, and customisable quizzes also increased students’ motivation. It is recommended that educators integrate interactive digital tools like Gimkit into their teaching strategies to boost student participation and reading performance. Future research may explore the long-term impact of using such platforms and their application across different subjects and grade levels.

Abstract

This study investigates students' perceptions of digital storytelling as a pedagogical tool for teaching reading narrative texts, particularly in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. With the increasing integration of technology in educational settings, digital storytelling has emerged as an innovative method that combines traditional storytelling with multimedia elements, thereby enhancing student engagement and comprehension. Conducted at SMAN 5 Lubuk Linggau, the research utilized a survey design to gather insights from EFL students regarding their experiences and attitudes towards digital storytelling. The findings reveal a predominantly positive perception among students, who believe that this method not only makes reading more enjoyable but also fosters a deeper understanding of narrative content. However, the study also uncovers concerns about the potential for disinterest among some students, highlighting the need for thoughtful implementation by educators. By tailoring digital storytelling experiences to align with students' interests and learning needs, educators can maximize its effectiveness and enrich the reading experience. The study contributes valuable insights into the role of digital storytelling in education, advocating for its continued exploration and integration to enhance student learning outcomes and engagement in reading narrative texts.
