Abstract

This study examines the types of similes in the lyrics of "Heather" using Fromilhague's theory (1995) and the meaning in the lyrics of "Heather" using Hurford and Heasley's theory (2004). This study aims to find the kinds of similes contained in "Heather" and also describe them to the readers in order to get a clearer insight more deeply. Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's data analysis model was used by the researchers (2014). Researchers discovered two data from the lyrics of Conan Gray's song - Heather that are included in implicit similes and two data that are included in explicit similes. The researchers also found that the words used in "Heather" mean very multi-interpretive because it is intentionally vague and biased, allowing it to be interpreted into any meaning, aka ambiguous. Furthermore, researchers discovered 14 data points with structural ambiguity and 15 data points with lexical ambiguity in the song lyrics.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Integrated Skills Approach (ISA) in English Language Teaching (ELT) at MA Darul Istiqamah Boarding School, Maros. The ISA emphasizes the simultaneous development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a cohesive and communicative learning environment. This approach is believed to better reflect real-world language use and improve students’ overall language competence. The study employed a quantitative research design with purposive sampling. The participants consisted of twenty Grade XI students, selected randomly from Science, Social Sciences, and Language tracks. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, structured questionnaires, and classroom observations. Statistical analysis showed significant improvement in students’ proficiency, particularly in speaking and writing skills, after being taught using the integrated skills method. The results indicate that the Integrated Skills Approach positively impacts students’ motivation, engagement, and communicative competence. These findings have important pedagogical implications for English teaching at MA Darul Istiqamah and other similar educational institutions. The study recommends the broader application of this approach in secondary education to promote more effective and meaningful English language learning.

Abstract

This report presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a Time Management Training program tailored for undergraduate students. The training aimed to equip students with practical strategies to effectively manage their academic and personal responsibilities. Utilizing a combination of interactive activities, self-assessment tools, and real-life case studies, the program provided participants with opportunities to identify personal time management challenges, develop actionable skills, and engage in reflective goal setting. Results indicate significant improvements in students’ self-awareness, problem-solving abilities, and motivation to adopt effective time management habits. Group discussions and peer learning fostered a supportive community, while experiential exercises bridged the gap between theory and practice. The findings highlight the importance of integrating time management training into student development initiatives, as such interventions can enhance academic performance, reduce stress, and prepare students for future success. Recommendations for sustaining these benefits include ongoing support and the incorporation of time management modules into broader university programs.

Abstract

This community service is focused on improving students' listening and memory skills through the implementation of an educational "chain whisper" game integrated with local wisdom. The background for this activity is the urgent need to strengthen students' listening and memory abilities amidst a lack of interactive learning methods that are relevant to the cultural context. It uses a participatory and educational approach in several stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The main results show that this approach successfully generated student enthusiasm, encouraged active participation, and significantly improved their ability to listen for details and their memory for the information conveyed. In addition, this activity also helped foster students' appreciation for local cultural heritage and noble values. It is concluded that the chain whisper game rooted in local wisdom is an effective and enjoyable method for developing students' listening and memory skills while also preserving culture.
