Abstract

The development of the internet and technology is currently growing so that it provides many benefits but also negative impacts. For children who are still underage, the problem that is often encountered is the spread of fake news or more commonly known as hoaxes. This is the background of this PKM activity to contribute to the community, especially 7th grade students at SMP NU Palangka Raya. This PKM activity aims to teach critical listening and thinking skills to provide a better understanding of the existence of hoaxes, and train students to be more critical in filtering the information they receive. The activity was conducted for 7th grade students with 2 different classes at SMP NU Palangka Raya. This PKM method uses participatory observation. The results of the observation showed that classes 7-1 and 7-2 were active in this service activity. However, class 7-1 was more interactive than class 7-2. This activity makes a positive contribution in shaping a smarter and more critical young generation in the use of social media

Abstract

The ability to speak effectively is an essential component of language proficiency, yet it remains one of the most challenging skills for learners to master. This study investigated the role of Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) tools, such as Duolingo, Zoom, ELSA Speak and YouTube, in improving speaking among language learners. Using desk research, findings show that these tools significantly improve learners' pronunciation, fluency and engagement. For example, Duolingo systematically improves vocabulary and skill development, while ELSA Speak provides real-time pronunciation feedback. Zoom facilitates interactive group discussions through breakout rooms, and YouTube encourages self-directed learning by exposing learners to authentic language content. Despite the benefits, challenges such as limited internet access and suitability of the tools for advanced learners remain. These findings suggest that strategically integrating multiple TELL tools can maximize speaking proficiency outcomes. Future research should explore the long-term impact and cross-context applicability of these tools in language learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore students' views on using JASP (Jeffreys’s Amazing Statistics Program) as a learning tool in an educational statistics course within the English Education Program. Using a quantitative approach, the study gathered data that allowed for statistical insights into students' understanding and experiences with the tool. Questionnaires were distributed to 23 students selected through convinience sampling. The results showed that many students felt JASP supported their grasp of statistical concepts, helped them better interpret data, and reduced the likelihood of errors in their analyses. However, some students expressed a need for more guidance and practice to fully benefit from the tool. Overall, while JASP showed promise in enhancing statistical learning, its effective use would benefit from structured support to help students make the most of it in their studies.

Abstract

Studi ini menyelidiki terjemahan frasa "Little Prince" dalam versi bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia dari The Little Prince karya Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
