Abstract

Solvent is a key factor that affects the effectiveness of active compound extraction from plant materials (simplisia). This study aimed to determine the optimal type and concentration of solvent used in the extraction of pepino fruit based on the parameter of antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activity, as well as Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value. The extraction was carried out using the maceration method with ethanol or ethyl acetate as the solvent, each at concentrations of 50%, 70%, and 96%, respectively. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was evaluated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The inhibition of tyrosinase and the determination of the SPF value were carried out using in vitro test. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract was better than that of the ethanol extract in terms of antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibition, and SPF value. In the ethyl acetate solvent, a concentration of 96% provided the strongest antioxidant, tyrosinase inhibition activity, and the second highest in SPF test. It can be concluded that the optimal solvent for extracting pepino fruit as promising compound for sunscreen formulation is 96% ethyl acetate.

Abstract

Kata kunci : Colocasia esculenta, talas, luka Introduction: Incision wounds are scratches on the skin caused by sharp objects. The common occurrence of incision wounds in society and the minimal use of medicinal plants are the main focus of this review. Tubers have been empirically used by the community as wound dressings and scientifically contain saponins, tannins, and flavonoids to increase reepithelialization of incision wounds. Objective: scientific evidence on the use of taro tuber extract in increasing reepithelialization of incision wounds, the number of fibroblasts and collagen thickness. Methods: a systematic journal literature study was conducted through searching for scientific publication results using the PubMed, Google Scholar and Scientdirect databases. Results: taro tuber plants have content that can accelerate wound healing by helping skin cell reepithelialization. Keywords : Colocasia esculenta, taro, wound

Abstract

Self-medication refers to an individual’s effort to treat their own health complaints based on symptoms they experience. This practice commonly involves purchasing over-the-counter drugs, using leftover prescribed medicines, or taking medications recommended by family members, friends, or the media without medical supervision. Such self-treatment carries the risk of irrational drug use; therefore, education is essential to enhance public literacy regarding the proper use of medicines. The Inayatullah Islamic Boarding School Alumni Family Community consists of former students and their families, most of whom are in the 25–35 age range and have recently started families. This community service program aims to improve participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward self-medication through a community-based educational approach. The activity was implemented through the Smart Community Movement for the Rational Use of Medicines (GeMa CerMat), conducted in the form of interactive lectures and discussions during a regular monthly gathering at one of the alumni’s residences in Dukuh Nandan, Sariharjo Village, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency. Participants actively engaged in discussions about appropriate and rational self-medication practices. It is expected that this educational initiative will enhance the community’s understanding of responsible self-medication, enabling them to make wiser decisions in treating minor health problems and to prevent irrational drug use.

Abstract

Seluruh sediaan homogen tanpa terlihat adanya gumpalan.
