Abstract

Return migration is a topic of considerable interest in scholarly literature, with many studies suggesting that returning migrants can impact the economic development of their home country through capital accumulation and entrepreneurship. This study seeks to examine the entrepreneurial intentions of return migrants and the influence of formal education and training on their entrepreneurial tendencies. Utilizing data from the National Workforce Survey (Sakernas) in 2020 and employing logistic regression analysis, the study revealed that formal education tends to steer returning migrants towards the formal sector rather than entrepreneurship upon their return. Conversely, while training was found to potentially increase the likelihood of entrepreneurship, the effect was not statistically significant. Additionally, individual characteristics such as age, gender, and marital status were found to significantly influence entrepreneurial intentions, with older individuals, females, and married individuals exhibiting a higher propensity for entrepreneurship among return migrants. These findings contribute to the existing literature by highlighting that, on average, return migrants in Indonesia tend to have relatively low levels of education, and higher levels of human capital may diminish their interest in entrepreneurship.

Nowadays, there are previous studies discussing the effect of the SAF on economic indicators. However, the lack of research about the factor analysis that influences central government allocate the special autonomy funds based on the financial performances in Papua. The aim of this research is to analyze the financial performance components on the opportunity to receive special autonomy funds. The analysis used the panel regression with the 28 cross sections and 20 time series. Furthermore, this study finds out the last year of the special autonomy funds, so it can help the central government to take the policies to allocate the special autonomy funds for Papua.

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of youth intentions toward self-employment using data from the 2022 Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS). The analysis draws from a robust sample of more than 200.000 individuals aged 16 to 30, as defined by Indonesia’s Law No. 40/2009 on Youth. Logistic regression analysis was employed to investigate the influence of various socio-economic factors on self-employment intentions. The results reveal that demographic characteristics such as gender, marital status, and household size significantly affect entrepreneurial aspirations, with rural youth showing stronger effects than their urban counterparts. Financial factors, particularly saving behavior and access to credit, also play a pivotal role in promoting self-employment intentions. Interestingly, while education and internet access exhibit mixed effects, geographic differences highlight the varying challenges faced by rural and urban youth. These findings underscore the complex interplay between socio-economic factors and entrepreneurial intentions, offering key insights for policymakers aiming to foster youth entrepreneurship across Indonesia's diverse regions.

Abstract

Recently, there has been a growing concern for gender equality, especially in women's participation in the labor market, as an effort toward achieving the SDGs. This study aims to explore gender equality regarding women's participation in managerial positions in Indonesia. It uses provincial-level data covering 2018 to 2023. Cluster analysis is applied to assess gender equality through women's representation in managerial roles across different provinces. Additionally, Panel Corrected Standard Error (PCSE) regression is used to analyze provincial-level data, focusing on the socio-economic determinants influencing women's managerial participation. This study found that most provinces in Indonesia are still in the 'low' cluster in terms of women's participation in managerial positions. The panel data analysis reveals that female educational attainment and women's participation in politics significantly enhance women's representation in managerial positions across Indonesian provinces, while the female labor force participation rate also has a positive but less pronounced effect. Economic factors such as GRDP per capita and average labor wage do not show significant impacts, suggesting that non-economic barriers might be more influential in determining women's managerial roles. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of education, political empowerment, and broader female workforce participation in promoting gender equality. Abstract

This study aims to quantify the extent of working poverty in Indonesia and identify the demographic, geographic, and occupational factors associated with it, using microdata from the Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) 2022. The analysis employs logistic regression to determine the key determinants of working poverty among Indonesian laborers. The results reveal that older individuals, males, those with bank accounts, and those who use telephones and the internet are less likely to be in working poverty. These findings highlight the importance of age-related experience, gender-related economic advantages, financial inclusion, and digital connectivity in mitigating working poverty. Notably, education and formal sector employment did not show significant effects, suggesting that other factors may mediate their relationship with working poverty. The results emphasize the need for policies promoting financial and digital inclusion as part of poverty alleviation strategies. Enhancing access to banking services, telecommunication, and the internet, along with addressing gender disparities in the labor market, is crucial. Further exploration into the quality and market relevance of education is also recommended to design effective interventions tailored to the diverse needs of the working poor.
