Abstract

The Martahi Martulpak tradition in Mandailing society is a collective practice that reflects the value of mutual assistance in supporting the costs of organizing a wedding. Although it has been widely studied as part of local culture, limited research has linked this practice to the concept of living hadith, particularly to actualise Islamic values in a social context. This study aims to fill the theoretical gap regarding how the values of the hadith about ta'āwun (mutual assistance), ukhūwah (brotherhood), and alms are actualized in local cultural practices. Using descriptive qualitative methods and participatory observation techniques as well as in-depth interviews, this study explores the social and religious meaning of Martahi Martulpak for the Mandailing community. The study results show that Martahi Martulpak not only represents the socio-cultural values of Mandailing but also actualizes the teachings of the hadith in a local context. This tradition reflects the practice of collective alms and mutual assistance, where community participation is not only based on social obligations but is also interpreted as worship. This participation strengthens the bonds of brotherhood, strengthens the social structure, and expands the meaning of hadith in the social realm. Thus, Martahi Martulpak becomes a reflection of the living hadith, which is dynamic, adaptive, and contextual in forming the social and spiritual norms of the Mandailing community.

Abstract

The synonymy of meaning between the words khatama and ṭaba'a in the Qur'an has become an important issue in semantic and exegesis studies. These two words are often understood to have similar meanings, namely to close, but have different contextual nuances. This study aims to analyze the semantic differences between khatama and ṭaba'a, and evaluate their relevance in the context of contemporary exegesis. The method used is a qualitative method with semantic-comparative analysis techniques. The results of the study show that khatama tends to be used to describe God's action in closing the heart permanently as a consequence of rejecting the truth, while ṭaba'a is more of a locking action that is oriented towards cause and effect. In the context of contemporary exegesis, this difference is relevant to understanding the dynamics of guidance and rejection of the truth in modern society. In conclusion, khatama and ṭaba'a are not entirely synonymous, but rather have specific contextual meanings. This study makes an important contribution in deepening the study of the semantics of the Qur'an and enriching the interpretation of exegesis with a contextual approach.

Abstract

Tabarruj, in the context of Islamic teachings, refers to the actions of women who display their beauty or private parts with the aim of attracting the attention of the opposite sex. Hadiths related to tabarruj are often used as a reference to limit the use of makeup and jewelry for Muslim women. However, along with the times and cultural changes, this issue has become increasingly relevant to discuss, especially regarding the limitations of using makeup in the contemporary era. This research aims to analyze the relevance of the hadith regarding tabarruj in the context of modern Muslim society, as well as providing views regarding the limitations of using makeup for Muslim women from an Islamic perspective. The method used is a literature review with a thematic analysis approach to hadiths related to tabarruj. The research results show that although the use of makeup is not completely prohibited, there are still limitations, namely not excessively and not aiming to attract the attention of the opposite sex beyond what is required by the Shari'a. In conclusion, Muslim women can use makeup within reasonable limits, in accordance with the principle of simplicity and not violating Islamic teachings about aurat and tabarruj. It is hoped that this research will provide insight for Muslims in understanding the relationship between religious teachings and social practices in the modern era.

Abstract

Currently, technological advances are rapidly developing worldwide, including in Indonesia. One technology that is currently attracting a lot of attention from the public, including children, is gadgets. However, the use of these gadgets sometimes causes people to become addicted to using them if they are not controlled. This research aims to determine the role of the Prophet in educating children and its implementation in preventing gadget addiction in children. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive-analytic data analysis techniques. The results of this research show that Prophet Muhammad has an important role in educating children, contributing to efforts to prevent gadget addiction in children. In addition, parents also play an important role in preventing gadget addiction in children, especially by being good role models as the Prophet was a role model for his people. It is very important for parents to build good communication with their children by applying teachings of the Prophet Muhammad in interacting with children. Likewise, discipline in educating children provides valuable lessons for parents in guiding their children with clear, consistent, and loving rules. Finally, parents can help children choose friends who have positive habits or engage in other creative activities that do not involve excessive use of gadgets. By emulating the Prophet's way of educating children, parents can be more effective in preventing gadget addiction in children, forming good character, and instilling strong religious values from an early age.

Abstract

Gurah, a traditional Islamic medical practice, faces a critical juncture marked by conflicting interpretations of hadith and the dominance of evidence-based biomedicine. This study investigates the epistemological position of gurah within hadith literature, its reception among contemporary scholars and practitioners, and its potential role in modern integrative healthcare. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the research draws on primary hadith sources referencing medical practices and in-depth interviews with gurah practitioners affiliated with Jam’iyyah Ruqyah Aswaja (JRA) in North Sumatra. Thematic analysis reveals two primary scholarly perspectives: one affirms gurah as part of prophetic medicine, emphasizing its preventive and therapeutic values in line with Islamic health ethics; the other maintains a more critical stance, underscoring the need for empirical validation through modern clinical studies. The study highlights a pressing challenge: gurah must establish scientific credibility without losing its Islamic identity. Nevertheless, it continues to serve communities committed to traditional healing methods. The persistence of gurah in grassroots healthcare illustrates the resilience of Islamic medical traditions amid global medical homogenization. Moreover, its practice reflects a living dialogue between faith-based healing and modern science. The findings propose an interdisciplinary model that integrates gurah into contemporary medical discourse through collaboration between Islamic scholars and biomedical experts. Such a framework not only preserves religious authenticity, but also aligns with global standards of healthcare efficacy and safety. By foregrounding a rarely examined intersection of hadith studies, traditional healing, and medical science, this study contributes to a more inclusive and culturally rooted understanding of healthcare, urging further exploration of Islamic medical heritage within modern scientific paradigms.

Abstract

Global warming has become a pressing issue that impacts the sustainability of life on Earth. This environmental crisis raises questions about how Islamic ethical values, especially those derived from the hadith, can play a role in building ecological awareness in modern society. The hadith as one of the main sources of Islamic teachings contains moral principles that can be interpreted in an environmental context, such as preserving nature, preventing damage, and treating living things fairly. This study aims to explore the ecological ethics contained in the hadith and its relevance to the issue of global warming. Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative method, this study analyzes the hadiths related to human responsibility towards nature and relates them to the concept of modern ecology. The study’s results indicate that the values of environmental ethics in the hadith provide a strong theological basis for Muslims to be actively involved in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and reducing the impact of global warming. The main conclusion of this study is that Islamic teachings, through understanding the hadith, can make a significant contribution to building ecological awareness and real action in facing the global environmental crisis.

Abstract

In the digital era, online harassment against women is increasing along with the rapid development of communication technology. One of the contributing factors is uncontrolled online interactions, including private conversations that can open up opportunities for indecent acts. In Islam, the prohibition of khalwat (being alone between a man and a woman who are not mahram without supervision) is relevant in the digital context to prevent gender-based cybercrime. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the prohibition of khalwat in the hadith as a preventive strategy against online harassment against women. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach to the hadiths that discuss khalwat, as well as a contextual analysis of the phenomenon of digital harassment. The results of the study show that the concept of khalwat can be applied in digital interactions by avoiding private communications that have the potential to cause slander or harassment. This principle is in line with Islamic teachings that emphasize caution in interactions between men and women. In conclusion, the implementation of the prohibition of khalwat in digital communication can be a preventive step in preventing online harassment against women, especially through education on social media ethics and strengthening regulations that support digital security.

Abstract

The lack of implementation of hadith values in shaping the leadership character of santri is a challenge for educators in Islamic educational institutions, because sources of value other than the Qur'an or hadith, certainly cannot be ensured to form Islamic character. In this regard, Dayah integrated Al-Muslimun Lhoksukon North Aceh implements character building through the values contained in the hadith. The method used in this research is qualitative based on narrative studies, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The results revealed that the value of leadership character contained in the hadith is related to the value of justice, trustworthiness, and commitment which are characters that must exist in a leader. The implementation of character building is done through active learning, extra-curricular activities, problem-based learning. Determination is not only in terms of intellectual intelligence, but also spiritual and emotional. This research shows that the internalization of hadith values strengthens the leadership character of students, so Islamic educational institutions need to adopt this method to produce leaders with good character.
