Abstract

Pakan merupakan salah satu faktor penting yang berperan dalam usaha peternakan, namun saat ini keterbatasan lahan yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai lahan hijauan pakan ternak semakin terbatas karena dipengaruhi oleh pembangunan yang masif. Pembuatan silase pakan adalah salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi permasalahan keterbatasan hijauan, khususnya pada saat musim kemarau. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yaitu untuk memberdayakan dan memberikan pelatihan kepada masyarakat untuk pembuatan pakan silase. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi, dan praktik pembuatan silase dengan menggunakan rumput gajah, dedak, dan molases. Respon peserta sosialisasi secara umum baik dan positif, hal ini dapat diketahui berdasarkan antusiasme peserta yang sangat tinggi saat sesi diskusi dan juga saat praktik pembuatan silase. Setelah kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan, diharapkan peserta pengabdian dapat melakukan pembuatan silase pakan ternak secara mandiri sebagai antisipasi kekurangan pakan hijauan khususnya saat musim kemarau. Abstract

Increasing the capacity of farmers is one of the efforts made to improve livestock businesses, as it enables the productivity of the livestock raised to be more optimal. Therefore, the community service team of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung through the Klinik Pertanian Keliling Program routinely organizes extension and training-based activities to overcome problems in the livestock sector. This program aims to increase the capacity of ruminant farmers in Payung Mulya Village, Pubian Sub-District, Central Lampung District through integrated counseling on livestock maintenance, reproduction, and health management, as well as feed fermentation practices that include silage production from elephant grass and bran, and ammoniation of rice straw using urea. The evaluation of the activity was conducted by administering the same questionnaire both before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the program, which consisted of 29 questions related to livestock management, health, reproduction, and feed fermentation technology. A total of 40 participants took part in the activity, comprising 33 ruminant farmers from Payung Mulya Village and 7 students from the Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Lampung. The results of the community service activity demonstrated an increase in knowledge and skills, with improvements of 44.19% in livestock management (from 41.72% to 85.91%), 18.68% in livestock health (from 67.89% to 86.57%), 32.66% in livestock reproduction (from 55.41% to 88.07%), and 70.09% in feed fermentation technology (from 20.14% to 90.23%). This community service program concludes that it effectively enhanced the participants' knowledge and skills in livestock management, health, reproduction, and feed fermentation technology.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik inseminator dan tingkat keberhasilan Inseminasi Buatan di Kabupaten Lampung Timur. Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten Lampung Timur. Waktu penelitian pada Juni–Juli 2023. Materi penelitian ini adalah inseminator di Kabupaten Lampung Timur yang berjumlah 110 orang. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 52 inseminator. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini metode survei. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif yaitu untuk menjelaskan karakteristik inseminator dan tingkat keberhasilan IB dengan indikator service per conception(S/C), conception rate (CR), dan calving interval (CI) pada sapi Limousin dan Simental. Hasil penelitian diperoleh karakteristik inseminator: rata-rata umur inseminator adalah 39,19 tahun, tingkat pendidikan inseminator adalah sebagian besar Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA), rata-rata pengalaman menjadi inseminator 10,92 tahun, dan rata-rata aktivitas pelatihan sebanyak 2 kali Tingkat keberhasilan IB pada sapi Limousin diperoleh nilai S/C = 2,37, CR = 74,80% dan CI =15,10 bulan, pada sapi Simental S/C = 2,31, CR = 74,49% dan CI =15,25.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan inseminasi buatan pada sapi jenis Peranakan Ongole, Limousin, dan Simental di Kelompok Ternak Bumi Asih Sejahtera Kecamatan Tanjungsari Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Waktu penelitian pada Bulan Juni – Juli 2023. Materi penelitian ini adalah seluruh peternak anggota kelompok Ternak Bumi Asih Desa Wawasan Kecamatan Tanjungsari Kabupaten Lampung Selatan yang berjumlah 30 orang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini metode survei. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif yaitu untuk menjelaskan tingkat keberhasilan inseminasi buatan yang ditinjau dari S/C, CR, dan CI pada sapi jenis Peranakan Ongole, Limousin, dan Simental di Kelompok Ternak Bumi Asih Sejahtera Kecamatan Tanjungsari Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Hasil penelitian diperoleh tingkat keberhasilan IB pada sapi PO diperoleh nilai S/C = 2,24, CR = 21,39% dan CI =14,14 bulan, pada sapi Limousin S/C = 2,28, CR = 10,00% dan CI =14,83, pada sapi Simental S/C = 3,00, CR = 12,50% dan CI =15,56.Kata Kunci: Inseminasi buatan, Service per Conception, Conception Rate, Calving Interval

Abstract

Goats are one of the small ruminants that contribute significantly to the smallholder livestock system and play a role in increasing the income of rural communities in Indonesia. Forage availability as the main component of goat feed usually depends on landscape conditions and different agroecological zones. Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has three different agroecological zones: hilly areas, lowland, and coastal areas. This study aims to determine the diversity of forage in various agroecological zones in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region as a basis for making policies for developing livestock populations based on the potential of available forage. The research was conducted using a survey method by observing and inventorying the environment around the farmer's residence and interviewing goat farmers in the agroecological zones of coastal areas, lowland, and hilly areas. The results showed that each agroecological zone has a distinctive type of forage, depending on factors such as land slope, soil type, and season. The lowland zone showed the highest forage diversity compared to other zones. The availability of varied forage as a source of animal feed can affect the productivity of goats, which is an important component of the smallholder farming system in Bantul Regency. Abstract

Desa Cibeusi Kecamatan Ciater merupakan kawasan konservasi dan daerah tangkapan air yang memiliki berbagai macam topografi dari datar hingga curam sehingga Desa Cibeusi merupakan kawasan rawan longsor karena terletak di dataran tinggi Pegunungan Tangkuban Parahu dan masyarakatnya banyak memelihara ternak. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk menjaga kawasan rawan longsor adalah dengan melakukan pemanfaatan tanaman Indigofera zolingeriana sebagai jenis tanaman yang dapat ditanam di kawasan longsor dan memiliki manfaat untuk hijauan pakan ternak. Tanaman Indigofera zolingeriana toleran pada tanah yang kering, genangan air, salinitas tinggi, serta pH tanah yang asam. Hasil ini memberikan pengetahuan dan wawasan konservasi Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS) melalui penanaman di hulu sungai serta inovasi baru membuat alternatif pakan ternak dengan memanfaatkan tanaman Indigofera zolingeriana, sehingga masyarakat Desa Cibeusi mendapatkan tiga fungsi sekaligus dari DAS yaitu fungsi ekologi, ekonomi, dan sosial dengan menanam Indigofera zolingeriana.

Abstract

The livestock sector is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, especially through feed production and processing. As demand for animal products increases, the need for sustainable alternatives becomes more urgent. This review explores how the circular bioeconomy (CBE) can reduce environmental impact by using industrial waste gases, such as CO₂, CO, and CH₄, as carbon sources for microbial bioconversion. The review discusses key microbial platforms, including autotrophic bacteria, methanotrophs, and hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria, for their ability to convert gases into biofuels and single-cell protein (SCP). These alternatives offer a more ecofriendly approach to conventional livestock feed. The review also highlights successful industrial applications, safety and regulatory challenges, and emerging biotechnological innovations, such as synthetic biology and co-culture systems. Ultimately, integrating the CBE into livestock systems provides a way to achieve more sustainable, resilient, and efficient food production.

Abstract

Cichorium intybus L. (chicory) is a perennial forage with considerable potential to support sustainable livestock systems, particularly in tropical regions. This study aims to evaluate its nutritional composition, agronomic performance, and livestock response. A literature-based review supported by field trial data was employed, focusing on nutrient analysis, cultivation practices, animal feeding performance, and economic viability. Quantitative findings indicate that chicory contains 14–22% crude protein and 10–20% inulin (dry weight basis), with forage yields reaching 8–12 t DM/ha/year under optimal management. Feeding trials demonstrate improvements in milk yield by 5–12%, reductions in nitrogen excretion by 10–15%, and decreases in gastrointestinal parasite load by 30–40% compared with conventional grass-based diets. Agronomically, chicory thrives in well-drained soils with balanced fertilization and responds positively to high-frequency irrigation and integrated pest management, although breeding for tropical adaptation remains essential. Despite its high nutritive value and bioactive properties, economic challenges such as high input costs and limited market access constrain broader adoption. Overall, chicory represents a promising alternative forage crop that enhances animal productivity, health, and environmental efficiency, while contributing to climate-resilient livestock production systems in tropical settings.
