Abstract

The Indonesian Coastal Conservation Foundation (Yakopi) has successfully planted 82.24 hectares of mangroves in Tinjul Village, Lingga Regency. However, mangrove planting efforts need to be complemented with mangrove zoning mapping and the establishment of village regulations for mangrove protection. This research employs a qualitative approach using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, with data collection through Focus Group Discussions (FGD), participatory mapping, and documentation. The analysis method used is descriptive. The results indicate that (1) the first FGD led to an agreement on conducting mangrove zoning mapping and formulating village regulations, (2) a field survey via participatory mapping produced a mangrove zoning map, (3) the second FGD resulted in consensus on the mangrove zoning maps and village regulations regarding mangrove protection, and (4) the third FGD led to the ratification and handover of the mangrove zoning maps and Tinjul Village Regulation No. 002 of 2024 on mangrove protection to village government officials. The study concludes that community-based mangrove management can be sustainable, contributing to the balance of the existing ecosystem. Keywords: mangrove conservation; planning; spatial utilization

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Case Method and Team-Based Project learning approaches within the context of the Geography Education Department's cultural and political geography courses at Universitas Negeri Medan. These methods, relevant to the Merdeka Belajar - Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, aim to enhance student skills through active, applied learning. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research gathered data via questionnaires distributed through Google Forms to a sample of 67 students out of a total population of 454 from the 2019-2022 academic cohorts. Findings indicate that the duration required for the Case Method varies with the complexity of the cases, ranging from 15-30 minutes for simpler issues to over 60 minutes for more intricate problems. The Team-Based Project approach necessitates 7 to 8 meetings, including initial planning and subsequent implementation phases, monitored by lecturers through direct communication or digital platforms like LMS forums or Zoom channels. However, the study reveals inefficiencies in applying these learning methods within the department, attributed to the substantial workload imposed by the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and a lack of student engagement in assignments. It suggests a comprehensive revision of IQF assignments towards more discussion-oriented and field-practical approaches to address these challenges.

Abstract

Abstract: In the context of school teaching, choosing an appropriate learning model at the school level can have a significant effect on student learning outcomes. However, we often witness educators' confusion in choosing a suitable learning model for teaching materials. To address this issue, a study with a quantitative descriptive approach was conducted, using various data analysis techniques such as validity, reliability, data description, normality, homogeneity, and t-test. In this study, the results showed a comparison between the experimental class that applied the Problem Based Learning method, with an average score of 77.5, compared to the control class that used the conventional model and achieved an average score of 67.93. Thus, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model is considered more effective in facilitating the assessment of student learning outcomes when compared to the conventional lecture approach. With these findings as a basis, it is suggested to educators to choose an appropriate learning model, so that students can experience the learning process effectively within the classroom environment.

Abstract

This research focuses on the issue of organic waste management in Pasar Raya MMTC, which is a major contributor to the increasing amount of waste in Indonesia, especially in the market sector. The objectives of the study were to analyze the level of community participation in organic waste management, identify the constraints faced in organic waste management, and highlight the importance of organic waste management in Pasar Raya MMTC. This research used descriptive method with qualitative descriptive analysis. The results revealed that the low level of community participation in organic waste management in this market is due to the lack of facilities and education on proper waste management to traders and the community. Increased market activity has a significant impact on increasing the volume of organic waste, and without active community participation, waste management is not optimal. This research is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and public health by encouraging community awareness and participation in better organic waste management.
