Abstract

Background: Cigarette consumption causes economic and health losses to smokers and their families. The main determinant of stunting in toddlers in Sleman Regency is cigarette consumption by family members. Aims: The research aims to develop innovations to control cigarette consumption and toddler stunting through the Kabar Besti (Keluarga Bebas Asap Rokok dan Bebas Stunting) or the Smoke and Stunting Free Families Program. Method: This research uses an action research approach which includes: 1) innovation development, 2) innovation dissemination, 3) program adoption, and 4) program evaluation. The research was conducted in Sumberan Hamlet, Candibinangun Village, Pakem District, Yogyakarta for 6 months, from August 2023 to January 2024. Result: The development of the Kabar Besti program was successfully initiated with the following phases: 1) needs assessment, namely gathering support, exposing the program, and looking for opportunities and challenges in implementing the program; 2) dissemination of innovation in the community, namely socialization of the program to hamlet heads, toddler Posyandu, youth groups, and youth and youth communities; measuring lung capacity and collecting data on cigarette consumption patterns in the community of fathers and teenagers; 3) program adoption is proven by a declaration of joint commitment to implementing the Kabar Besti program; 4) program evaluation: there was a decrease in the number of fathers who smoked from 70.1% before the intervention to 68.6% after the intervention. Conclusion: The Kabar Besti program has been successfully developed and proven to increase community and stakeholder commitment to controlling cigarette consumption and stunting.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia faces a serious threat due to the increasing number of smokers. Based on data BPS for 2020-2022, the percentage of people who smoke in Yogyakarta City is 23.97%, an increase from 24.54% in 2021. However, the proportion of children and adolescents aged 12 to 21 years who smoke is increasing in Sleman Regency. Furthermore, this increase represents a 16.1% increase in the approximately 200,000 youth living in Sleman District. Methods: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of audiovisual counseling and leaflets on adolescents' knowledge and attitudes toward smoking cessation decisions in Candibinangun Pakem Village. Using Systematic Literature Review (SLR) research design. National and international literature indexes "Pubmed", "Google Scholar", "JAMA Network" and public health databases were used as samples. In data collection, extraction and analysis will be carried out using the PRISMA method. Results: The researchers identified 917 articles, including 199 from PubMed, 705 from Google Scholar, and 13 from JAMA Network, which were screened using the PRISMA method. The screening resulted in 8 articles, excluding 2 from the total of 6 articles, based on the identified keywords. Conclusion: The systematic review reveals that audiovisual media and leaflets significantly influence knowledge and attitudes, impacting implementation, acceptance, and outcomes. However, some behaviors are challenging to change due to environmental factors or lack of need. Therefore, community encouragement is needed to enhance knowledge and attitudes, particularly in reducing smoking prevalence.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Stunting is a global public health problem that can impair children's physical and cognitive development. In Indonesia, although the prevalence of stunting has decreased, it is still relatively high. Adolescents, especially adolescent girls, play an essential role in stunting prevention, as their knowledge, attitudes, and motivation can influence the health of future generations. Community-based education, such as Karang Taruna youth groups at the village or kelurahan level, using audiovisual media, is considered adequate for increasing adolescents' understanding and awareness of stunting. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was 33 adolescents in Sumberan Hamlet, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The intervention was stunting prevention education using audiovisual media delivered in one one-hour session in October 2024. Data were collected through questionnaires to measure knowledge, attitudes, and motivation which were standardized and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. Result: This study showed a significant increase in adolescents' knowledge with a mean difference between pre-test and post-test of 9.26 (p=0.001) and in attitude with a mean difference of 2.33 (p=0.003) after the intervention. However, adolescents' motivation did not increase significantly, with a mean difference between pre-test and post-test of only 0.70 (p=0.274). Conclusion: Community-based education using audiovisual media effectively improves adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about stunting.
