Abstract

Breastfeeding promotion is vital for improving neonatal health and reducing mortality rates, particularly in developing countries. The World Health Organization advocates for exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life due to its substantial benefits for infant growth, development, and immunity. Understanding the determinants of exclusive breastfeeding, such as maternal knowledge and practices, is crucial for devising effective interventions to enhance breastfeeding rates among mothers. Social-psychological interventions, including family and peer support, have demonstrated efficacy in increasing breastfeeding frequency by addressing behavioral changes in new parents. Psychological factors such as self-efficacy, postnatal depression, and stress significantly influence breastfeeding decisions. Additionally, cultural norms, social media, and healthcare professionals are critical in shaping breastfeeding practices. This literature review examines the influence of these factors and interventions, underscoring the need for comprehensive strategies to promote breastfeeding, especially among novice and young mothers. Peer support programs, education-based initiatives, and postnatal support are highlighted as effective approaches. The study emphasizes the importance of tailored socio-psychological interventions and calls for further research to address existing gaps and strengthen the validity of findings, ultimately aiming to enhance breastfeeding outcomes and the overall well-being of mothers and infants.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Stunting is a global public health problem that can impair children's physical and cognitive development. In Indonesia, although the prevalence of stunting has decreased, it is still relatively high. Adolescents, especially adolescent girls, play an essential role in stunting prevention, as their knowledge, attitudes, and motivation can influence the health of future generations. Community-based education, such as Karang Taruna youth groups at the village or kelurahan level, using audiovisual media, is considered adequate for increasing adolescents' understanding and awareness of stunting. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was 33 adolescents in Sumberan Hamlet, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The intervention was stunting prevention education using audiovisual media delivered in one one-hour session in October 2024. Data were collected through questionnaires to measure knowledge, attitudes, and motivation which were standardized and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. Result: This study showed a significant increase in adolescents' knowledge with a mean difference between pre-test and post-test of 9.26 (p=0.001) and in attitude with a mean difference of 2.33 (p=0.003) after the intervention. However, adolescents' motivation did not increase significantly, with a mean difference between pre-test and post-test of only 0.70 (p=0.274). Conclusion: Community-based education using audiovisual media effectively improves adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about stunting.

Abstract

Health knowledge is a fundamental factor in maintaining the well-being of individuals and communities. Women play a central role as agents of change in promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors. This activity aims to conduct online health education to improve women's health knowledge. The educational intervention was conducted online, covering topics such as healthy lifestyles, women's roles, and the creation of a healthy generation, accompanied by pretests and posttests to assess changes in knowledge. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, from an average of 3.94 to 4.76 after the intervention (p < 0.05). Online education offers advantages such as ease of access, time flexibility, and empowerment potential for women who often carry dual roles in both family and community settings. However, challenges remain, including internet access limitations and the lack of face-to-face interaction. Online health education has proven effective in enhancing women's health knowledge and should be further developed through improved technical infrastructure and diverse educational content to ensure sustainable long-term impact.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major global health concern, contributing to child mortality and long-term developmental consequences. Maternal nutritional status during pregnancy plays a crucial role in determining child growth outcomes. Understanding this relationship is essential for developing effective nutritional interventions to prevent stunting. Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the association between maternal nutritional status and stunting in children under five. Relevant studies published between January 2019 and July 2024 were retrieved from PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and BMJ. Data from nine studies across Asia and Africa were analyzed using Review Manager (RevMan) 5.3. Results: The analysis revealed that underweight mothers had a 1.22 times higher risk of having stunted children, while overweight mothers had a 1.02 times higher risk. Both findings were statistically significant (p<0.001). These results highlight the critical influence of maternal nutritional status on child growth and the increased risk of stunting in both underweight and overweight mothers. Conclusion: Maternal nutrition during pregnancy plays a vital role in preventing stunting among children under five. Targeted nutritional interventions for underweight and overweight mothers are essential to improve maternal and child health outcomes. Strengthening maternal nutrition programs can significantly contribute to reducing global stunting rates.
