Abstract

Optimization of Applied Science Learning in The Context of Environmentally Friendly Technology Based on The Life Skills of Indonesian School Teachers in Malaysia Abstract This research explores the optimization of applied science learning with a focus on environmentally friendly technology in Malaysian schools with an emphasis on developing teachers' life skills. The aim of this research is to implement applied science learning in the context of environmentally friendly technology based on life skills for school teachers in Malaysia. Activities include strengthening and implementing contextual science learning as an effort to develop teachers' life skills with aspects measured in the form of social, personal and specific skills.  The methods used in this training activity are lecture, discussion, question and answer, experiment and demonstration methods. The results of the research show that the implementation of applied science learning based on environmentally friendly technology succeeded in increasing social skills by 85%, personal skills by 90%, and specific skills by 80% with a very good average increase after following the implementation of contextual science learning. Teachers became more confident in applying environmentally friendly technology concepts and more skilled in integrating theory and practice in the classroom. Challenges faced during program implementation included limited infrastructure and resistance to changes in teaching methods. Proposed solutions include improved technology infrastructure and broader ongoing training for teachers, as well as increased program outreach to support program success and sustainability.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the important skills that mathematics and science education students must possess to enhance the quality of teaching in the modern education era. This study uses a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review method. The focus of the study is on annual publication trends, research methods, and skills emphasized in mathematics and science education, from the Scopus database during the 2015-2024 period. A total of 50 papers were analyzed to present ideas, findings, and knowledge literature with an academic focus. This data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis, namely research focused on exploring how essential skills are implemented or integrated in mathematics and science education. The results of the research show that the peak of the research trend on important future skills for mathematics and science students will be in 2023 and will still be ongoing in 2024. The methods most frequently used in the last 15-year research period are quantitative, followed by non-empirical, qualitative, mixed, and research and development. Future skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication are very important to teach prospective teachers in improving the quality of teaching. This study also revealed that STEM learning is most widely used to teach future skills. In the future, this research can become a reference or point of reference in preparing the skills that must be taught to prospective teachers today for quality education in the future with the role of professional teachers.

Abstract

This research was carried out from November to December 2023, at the Ruyani Life Sciences Learning Resources (SBIH). The aim of this research was to determine the effect of feeding tofu dregs and cow dung on the growth of earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus). The method used in this research was an experimental method, namely a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 feed treatments + 3 repetitions for continuation of undergraduate student research and 6 feed treatments + 3 repetitions for initiation. Data analysis used the Kruskall-Wallis nonparametric statistical test with Asymp. Sig. values. ≤ 0.05, and continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The research results show that the value of Asymp. Sig. parent biomass, offspring biomass, number of parent individuals, and number of Lumbricus rubellus offspring in sequence, in the 1st to 4th week of follow-up research Asymp. Sig. values. namely 0.086; 0.036; 0.140; and 0.064. In the 5th to 8th week of further research, the Asymp. Sig. value. namely 0.168; 0.047; 0.176; and 0.095. And in the 5th to 8th weeks of the research, the Asymp. Sig. value was initiated. namely 0.062; 0.010; 0.434; and 0.013. The conclusion was that feeding tofu dregs and cow dung had no real effect on parent biomass and number of parent individuals, and there was a real difference in offspring biomass and number of Lumbricus rubellus offspring in the initial study.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the needs and specifications of the Renewable Energy Literacy through the Exploration of Various Natural Materials (RELIEVE) e-module, which is integrated with STEM-PjBL to support applied science learning in universities. This qualitative research involved five lecturers who were selected purposively, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, then transcribed, verified, and analyzed using a thematic approach. The results of the study show three main findings. First, students need learning that is applicable, contextual, interactive, and problem-solving based to develop critical and creative thinking skills. Second, the STEM-PjBL approach is considered appropriate because it is able to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through contextual projects that increase student learning engagement. Third, the required e-modules must be digital, easily accessible through devices, structured, project-based, and provide authentic assessments to measure high-level thinking skills (HOTS), especially critical and creative thinking skills. These findings confirm that the development of the RELIEVE e-module has the potential to be a strategic pedagogical innovation to strengthen renewable energy literacy and support the sustainable energy transition while contributing to curriculum development and further research on the effectiveness of STEM-PjBL-based learning in higher education.
