Abstract

Introduction: Post-cesarean section pain is a common complication that may hinder maternal recovery, delay mobility, and disrupt early breastfeeding. While pharmacological treatments are available, non-pharmacological interventions such as foot massage and Quranic recitation have shown individual effectiveness in reducing pain. Objective: This study aimed to explore the combined effect of foot massage therapy and Quranic recitation (Surah Ar-Rahman) on the pain levels of post-cesarean section patients. Methods: A qualitative descriptive case study was conducted at RSUD Tidar Magelang from April 30 to May 7, 2025. Three primiparous Muslim women aged 20–35 years were selected through purposive sampling. Each participant received a 10–20-minute foot massage while simultaneously listening to Quranic recitation via headphones. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention over two consecutive days. Results: All participants initially reported moderate pain levels (NRS score of 5). After the intervention, pain levels decreased to mild (NRS score 2–3). Patients reported feeling calmer and more comfortable, attributing the relief to the synchronization of massage with spiritual recitation. These results align with existing literature supporting the effectiveness of both interventions individually. Conclusion: The combined application of foot massage and Quranic recitation effectively reduced postoperative pain in cesarean section patients. This culturally sensitive, non-pharmacological approach shows promise for holistic postpartum care, particularly in Muslim-majority settings. Further research with larger samples and control groups is needed to confirm its broader applicability and clinical significance.

Abstract

The postpartum period is an important period for mothers after giving birth, especially for adolescents who are in the transition period towards adulthood. Adolescent mothers tend to face physical and psychological challenges and experience limited knowledge in caring for themselves and their babies due to unpreparedness to play the role of a mother. One effective intervention to overcome this problem is health education through health promotion media. This study aims to improve the knowledge of adolescent mothers regarding postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care, as well as strengthen self-confidence in carrying out the role of a mother. The method used is a descriptive study with a case study approach on one adolescent postpartum patient who experienced a knowledge deficit. Data collection techniques include interviews, physical examinations, Gordon function pattern assessments, observations, and medical record reviews. Nursing interventions are provided in accordance with the Indonesian Nursing Intervention and Outcome Standards. The results showed an increase in understanding, active participation in education, and initial skills in breastfeeding and self-care practices. In conclusion, health education through promotion media has proven effective in improving the understanding and readiness of adolescent mothers to undergo the postpartum period.

Abstract

The dichotomic concept of space between white and Aboriginal Australians has been widely used in the colonial discourse. Through The Secret River, Grenville dismantles the binary oppositions that serves as the main strategy for colonization. We argue that space as a medium of negotiation is used as her strategy to involve in the national reconciliation movement. Postmemory is employed to explain the strategy of choosing spatial locations that links with Grenville’s intergenerational memories. The analysis reveals that the boundaries created by the settlers upon the disputed land cannot successfully cover the chaotic and heterogenous nature of the Aboriginal Dharug land. Instead, the previous characteristics of the land keep appearing as a form of resistance. During the attempt, the settlers slowly recognize the similar nature of the Dharug’s living space to theirs. The process represents the ongoing understanding between the two parties which signifies the spirit of the national reconciliation movement.

Abstract

In Japanese society, women are expected to exhibit femininity shaped by the ideology of “good wife, wise mother” prevalent in Japan. This societal norm often limits women’s ability to pursue independent lives. However, the rise of the feminist movement has contributed to greater self-awareness among women, encouraging them to assert their rights and express their femininity in a non-traditional way. This study aims to explore how femininity is portrayed through female characters in Kawakami’s Breasts and Eggs. A descriptive qualitative method is employed in this research, drawing on Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity. The results of this study suggest that femininity can be conveyed through the behavior, appearance, and language of several female characters, including Natsuko, Makiko, Midoriko, and Natsuko’s friend. The femininity portrayed by these characters also demonstrates that they both maintain and challenge traditional Japanese femininity. This depiction illustrates that femininity is constructed by society, which aligns with what Judith Butler discussed about gender.

Abstract

War is a violent event that can lead to psychological destruction, such as depression, deep trauma, and others. Depression and trauma can cause hallucinations. Hallucinations are psychological disorders when someone sees or hears something that actually does not exist. The unconscious mind, painful memories, and deep trauma can profoundly influence hallucinations, much like a dream does. This article aims to reveal and show the representations of unconscious desire, fear, and trauma through the hallucinations that are experienced by the main character in Zoulfa Katouh’s As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow. The method used is qualitative and is analyzed using Sigmund Freud’s theory of the unconscious mind. The results of this research show that Salama's hallucinations have a close relationship with the unconscious mind. The hallucinating figure of Khawf represents Salama's deep fear and trauma, as Khawf constantly reminds her of the stern warning that compelled Salama to flee the conflict occurring in her country. Meanwhile, the hallucinating figure of Layla is a representation of her hidden desires, a sense of security and companionship in a world that has become unbearable.

Abstract

The novel depicts the effect of the Vietnam War on the three generations, both during and long after the war. This article aims to show the portrayal of intergenerational trauma by three generations in On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. Through this analysis, each traumatic memory that is passed down from generation to generation will be explored. This analysis uses a qualitative descriptive method with the post-memory theory proposed by Marianne Hirsch. In consideration of that, the researcher will find the portrayal of intergenerational trauma experienced by the three generations in the novel, which are interconnected with each other. The results of this analysis indicate that the first generation, Lan, has schizophrenia and PTSD; the second generation, Rose, also has PTSD and anger issues due to their miserable life during the war; the third generation, Little Dog, who did not experience the Vietnam War at all was also affected through the transfer of memories such as stories, dark jokes, and verbally and physically abusive behavior. Therefore, through a collection of letters written by Little Dog, he tells the dark story of his family and his struggle in facing all the memories given.

The Victorian era had a profound impact on the lives of women during that period. However, with the persistence in achieving dreams, the norm was slightly broken. Persistence is a characteristic that shows one's behavior to maintain perseverance and enthusiasm in achieving goals. The character of persistence is marked by a strong and tireless consistency in the effort to achieve something. Little Women portrays the persistence of the main character, who lives in the Victorian era. This study aims to describe the persistence of the main character in the novel Little Women, who finally broke her word and chose a new path in life in the novel Little Men. The method used is qualitative research using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis theory. In this study, Jo shows persistence in achieving her dreams and succeeding, but the environment and ego continue to develop so that Jo begins to break her own words.
