Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of innovative teaching tools in special education settings, one of which is learning the conversion of units of measurement. The research was conducted at SLB Negeri 2 Sawahlunto with the target of intellectual   disability students who face challenges in understanding math concepts related to units of measurement. This research aims to develop learning media in the form of Kotak Saran (Unit of Measurement Conversion). Using research and development methods with 4D design. The subject of this research and development trial was by related experts such as media experts, tools, and learning for students with disabilities. As well as a practicality test by an educator and a student of intellectual disability. The data collection tool is a questionnaire instrument for the validity of the Kotak Saran media and a response instrument for the assessment of the Kotak Saran media. The data analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the Kotak Saran learning media is useful and feasible as a learning media in the conversion of units of measurement with the acquisition of a validation value of 92.40% and a practicality test of 82.5%. The final form of this product is in the form of learning media packaged in the form of an android application so that it can be opened anywhere and anytime via an android smartphone.

Abstract

The study was motivated by low learning interest and limited independence achievement among students due to instructional practices that were predominantly based on verbal explanations and direct demonstrations without the support of varied learning media. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design using both qualitative and quantitative approaches and was conducted at SLB Aslam Kids Padang. The research subjects were Grade X students with mild intellectual disabilities. The study was implemented in two cycles, each consisting of four meetings and following the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through structured observations of students’ learning activities and assessments of flower board arrangement skills, while data analysis was conducted using percentage techniques. The results indicated that the use of video tutorial media significantly improved students’ learning activities and skill performance. The average percentage of students’ activity and skill achievement increased from 68.7% in Cycle I to 93% in Cycle II. The novelty of this study lies in the use of video tutorial media as a vocational learning intervention that is visually structured, step-by-step, and repeatable according to students’ needs, effectively supporting the learning characteristics of students with mild intellectual disabilities in achieving greater learning independence.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve wedding gift decoration skills through the use of video tutorial media in vocational souvenir learning for a student with mild intellectual disability in Grade XI at SLB Mutiara Qalbu Sungai Limau. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), which focuses on the systematic and reflective improvement of instructional practices through two action cycles. Each cycle consisted of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection, with video tutorials utilized as visual support in vocational skills instruction. The research subject was a student with mild intellectual disability, identified by the initials RS, who experienced difficulties in practice-based vocational skills. Data were collected through performance observation and practical tests of wedding gift decoration and analyzed descriptively to describe changes in the learning process and outcomes. The findings indicate that the use of video tutorial media contributed to improvements in the learning process, increased student engagement and focus, and supported greater independence in completing the sequential steps of wedding gift decoration tasks. Through a systematic, gradual, and continuous action process, the student’s vocational skills developed and reached the expected learning mastery criteria.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the sock-wearing skills of children with Down syndrome through the implementation of the task analysis technique. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in Grade I at SLB Negeri Simalungun. The research subjects consisted of two students with Down syndrome, identified as EVT and NPS. Based on the initial assessment, the students’ ability to wear socks was categorized as low, with achievement percentages of 37% for EVT and 43% for NPS. The study was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of three meetings. In Cycle I, the application of the task analysis technique resulted in an improvement in sock-wearing skills, with EVT’s performance increasing from 47% to 63%, while NPS showed improvement from 53% to 73%. Furthermore, in Cycle II, EVT demonstrated more optimal improvement, reaching a range of 73%–85%, whereas NPS showed a stable increase within the range of 80%–88%. Data were collected through observation using a self-care skills assessment sheet, and data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative analysis by comparing results across cycles. The findings indicate that the task analysis technique is effective in improving self-care skills, particularly sock-wearing abilities, in children with Down syndrome. This study confirms that learning activities structured in a gradual and systematic manner can support children with Down syndrome in understanding and performing self-care activities more independently in accordance with their developmental characteristics.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve early reading skills and to describe the learning process through the use of the Marbel application for students with mild intellectual disabilities. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) and was conducted at SLB Negeri Simalungun. The research subjects were two fifth-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities, identified as SA and VL. Based on the initial assessment, students’ early reading skills were at a low level, with achievement percentages of 35% for SA and 30% for VL.The research was implemented in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The findings indicated a gradual improvement in the learning process. In Cycle I, students showed increased focus, interest, and ability to recognize letters and syllables, although intensive teacher guidance was still required. In Cycle II, the learning process became more effective, as indicated by higher student participation, increased independence, and improved reading fluency. In terms of effectiveness, early reading skills improved to 78% for both students in Cycle I, and increased significantly in Cycle II, reaching 93% for SA and 90% for VL. The results demonstrate that the Marbel application is effective in improving both the learning process and early reading outcomes for students with mild intellectual disabilities.
