Abstract

Organic fertilizer is very important in efforts to improve soil fertility naturally and safely, in the broadest sense of being free from chemicals that are harmful to human health, therefore this organic fertilizer is very safe for consumption. This research was carried out in a housing complex on Jl. Tombak, Medan Tembung District, Medan City, North Sumatra. The research method used in this research is the experimental and observation method. The aim of this research is to determine the content of organic fertilizer made from mixed waste of onion skins and garlic skins with used rice water washing. And the results of the research that has been carried out show that the organic fertilizer that the researchers made failed due to several factors, such as perhaps there being onion skins that had rotted and should not be used and also the fermentation process time was too long, so it did not meet the required standards. Apart from that, when filtering to remove onion skin waste, the liquid fertilizer the researchers made smelled pungent and rotten.

Abstract

The use of social media has become an important part of our lives, including in the development of geographic science. However, we often see that there are many uses of non-standard words in conveying geographic concepts on social media which can interfere with the effectiveness of conveying information and understanding geographic concepts. The aim of this research is to increase students' understanding of the importance of learning and understanding non-standard language terms in social media. This research uses quantitative research methods by distributing questionnaires to geography education students at Medan State University. The results of the research conducted show that geography education students have a positive view of the use of non-standard words on social media because they can increase students' understanding and interest in learning about geographic concepts.

Abstract

Findings in the Medan Denai and Medan Tembung traditional markets show that waste management is good, but waste management discipline has not been implemented, especially in the Sukaramai, Mandala, Pagi and Sore traditional markets, it appears that there are still people who do not implement it. don't care about cleanliness unless it's clean.Research in traditional markets shows that waste management is still not adhered to, such as a lack of waste sorting and processing processes, as well as market environments filled with large amounts of waste. One of the problems with waste in traditional markets is that there is a relatively large amount of it, which creates its own problems. This happens in traditional markets as an economic medium, where existing activities such as buying and selling from traders to consumers or from traders to traders indirectly create piles of rubbish.Studies at traditional markets in Medan City show that the behavior of traders in disposing of waste has a significant impact on increasing the volume of waste in traditional markets. In this case, handling waste problems in traditional markets actually requires the participation of traders. The waste problem at Sukaramai Market, Mandala Market, Morning Market and Afternoon Market is caused by an inefficient management system, accumulation of unsorted waste and the absence of a special group appointed by market managers to handle cleanliness and waste problems. Lots of rubbish scattered in the market.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of geography teaching strategies on the topic of disaster mitigation in Grade XI at SMA Negeri 1 Sei Rampah. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects included geography teachers and Grade XI students actively involved in the learning process. The findings revealed that teachers employed various teaching strategies, such as group discussions, case study analyses, and the use of digital learning media, to enhance students' understanding of disaster mitigation. Classroom observations indicated that these strategies effectively encouraged active student participation and improved their analytical skills in addressing disaster cases. However, challenges were identified, including limited technological facilities and insufficient instructional time. The study concluded that implementing diverse and contextual teaching strategies supports geography learning objectives, particularly in understanding disaster mitigation concepts. This research recommends improving technology-based learning facilities and providing training for teachers to optimize the strategies applied.

Abstract

The development of road infrastructure undoubtedly has a detrimental impact on society. The Serdang Bedagai Regency government's infrastructure development is an example of how something that is deemed beneficial by some always has a detrimental impact on others. This research intends to examine the influence of the building and operation of the Medan-Tebing Tinggi Toll Road on the socio-economic conditions of the community in the Pasar Bengkel area, Bengkel Village, Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. This study employed a qualitative descriptive case study methodology and gathered information via literature review, in-depth interviews, and direct observation. This study, which was carried out on February 15, 2025, involved three resource people who worked in Pasar Bengkel stores. According to the research, the toll road's construction and operation have a significant impact on Pasar Bengkel businesses. Prior to the toll road, Pasar Bengkel's average monthly income ranged from Rp10 million to Rp50 million, which suggests that local traders were enjoying rather favorable economic conditions. Around 80% of traders, however, reported a more than 50% decrease in income when the toll road opened, with the majority only making IDR3 million to IDR10 million a month.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the availability and feasibility of tourism infrastructure in Nagari Sumpur, West Sumatra, in supporting the development of a sustainable ecotourism-based village. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through field observations and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that Nagari Sumpur has promising infrastructure potential, particularly in basic facilities such as road networks and clean water supply, as well as natural and cultural attractions. However, several challenges persist, including limited supporting facilities (public toilets, tourist information centers, and telecommunication networks), suboptimal waste management systems, and a lack of renewable energy facilities. Strategic recommendations are formulated in three phases: short-term (improvement of basic facilities), medium-term (enhancement of technological infrastructure and environmental management), and long-term (implementation of eco-friendly technology and human resource development). This study contributes to sustainable village tourism development by emphasizing the importance of balancing environmental, economic, socio-cultural, and sustainability management aspects.
