Abstract

The need for blood in Medan City continues to increase every year, but has not been matched by the level of community participation in voluntary blood donation. This research aims to analyze the communication strategies applied by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Medan City in increasing public awareness and participation in blood donation. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, which involved in-depth interviews with five informants, consisting of PMI internal parties and the general public. The results showed that PMI Medan City implemented various communication strategies, including persuasive and humanist communication, utilization of social media and conventional media, and the AIDDA model approach (Awareness, Interest, Desire, Decision, Action). In addition, PMI actively collaborates with various parties and emphasizes friendly service to build public trust. Obstacles faced include a lack of public understanding, negative perceptions, and fear of the blood donation process. Effective, educative, and targeted communication strategies are proven to increase public participation and shape PMI's positive image as a humanitarian organization. The findings recommend the importance of innovation and continuous evaluation in communication strategies to address challenges in the field and strengthen the culture of voluntary blood donation.

Abstract

The number of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis in Indonesia continues to increase, putting great pressure on the national health financing system, especially the National Health Insurance (JKN). This study is a literature review that analyzes five scientific articles published between 2021 and 2024. Articles were selected through targeted searches in Google Scholar and PubMed, then synthesized narratively to describe trends and financing implications. The synthesis results show a significant increase in the number of hemodialysis patients each year, with therapy costs reaching trillions of rupiah. Payment rates set in the INA-CBGs system are often not in accordance with real costs in hospitals, risking a deficit in health facilities and BPJS Kesehatan. The increasing trend of hemodialysis patients places a large economic burden on the national health system. Cost control strategies are needed through primary prevention, early detection of CKD, adjustment of INA-CBGs rates, and development of alternative therapies to maintain service sustainability.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious global public health problem, especially in developing countries like Indonesia, because its prevalence is still relatively high. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the stunting prevention program at the Medan Tuntungan Health Center. Through a qualitative-descriptive approach, this study collected data through interviews with the Head of the Stunting Prevention Program, cadres, and the local community. The results show that this program is able to reduce stunting rates significantly, although there are still challenges such as social stigma from parents regarding their children's stunting status and limited funds for the provision of nutritional assistance. Cross-sector collaboration, community participation, and cadre dedication are very important in increasing public awareness and understanding of the importance of nutrition for children. It is hoped that with continued support, this program can contribute more to reducing the prevalence of stunting in the future.

Abstract

Ensuring efficient maintenance of medical equipment is crucial to maintaining the quality of hospital services and patient safety. However, many hospitals have difficulty carrying out this maintenance consistently. This study aims to examine the medical device maintenance system at the Malahayati Islamic Hospital in Medan and to assess the extent to which the system complies with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). In addition, this study also aims to identify various obstacles that arise during the process of implementing the system maintenance. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach by conducting in-depth interviews with three main informants, namely the head of the medical support section, electromedical technicians, and members of the Hospital Maintenance Unit (UPRS The results of the study revealed that several maintenance activities had been carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), such as preventive maintenance scheduling, annual calibration, and recording of technical documentation. However, several obstacles were found, including the limited number of qualified personnel (only one technician was available), limited maintenance budget, unavailability of special work space, and SOP coverage that did not yet cover all medical devices. In order for the maintenance system to run more effectively and sustainably, improvements are needed in aspects of human resources, supporting facilities, and more mature budget planning.
