Abstract

The research on the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 093 Sungai Abang Village was driven by the researchers’ desire to enhance students' learning outcomes, especially in the subject of English. The researcher's findings indicated that the average student achievement scores were still low, below the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) set by the school. Out of a total of 12 students, only 2 students or 16.7% reached the KKM. As an alternative solution to this issue, the researcher conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) by implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method. The research was conducted in the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, involving 12 students. The data analysis results from Cycle I showed that the average class score had reached the KKM, with 9 out of 12 students (75%) reaching the KKM. Students' learning outcomes improved in Cycle II, where almost all students, 11 out of 12 (91.7%), reached the KKM. This research demonstrates that the use of CTL was appropriately applied in English language learning, particularly in the material taught in the higher grade levels as the subject of the research.

Abstract

The research was conducted as a potential means to address the issues about low student learning outcomes, especially in cognitive abilities. Facts show that the score was still below the minimum mastery criteria of 75, especially in the field of social science for sixth-grade students. Social studies learning is recorded as it still uses conventional methods and teachers rarely give feedback on student work, coupled with the minimal use of media and not providing motivation to students. The present research aimed to apply the teams’ games tournament (TGT) approach to enhance the students’ cognitive abilities. The researchers employed two improvement cycles in the form of classroom action research procedures. The progress of students' learning outcomes was in each cycle, starting at 34.62% in the pre-cycle, completeness rose to 84.6% after the first cycle and reached 92.3% in the second cycle. The research results suggest that the implementation of the TGT method yielded a significant improvement in cognitive abilities of academic achievement among the research participants.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze students' perceptions of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English language learning at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Administrasi (STIA) Lppn Padang. In particular, it focuses on the application of ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot developed by OpenAI, to assist students in improving their writing skills. Through surveys and interviews, data were collected from students to evaluate their experiences and perceptions of using ChatGPT. The findings reveal that while many students appreciate the support provided by AI in terms of ease of access to information, improved writing efficiency, and enhanced understanding, concerns remain regarding over-reliance on technology and potential impacts on independent learning. This research contributes to the broader discussion on integrating advanced technology into educational practices and its implications for future learning environments.
