Abstract

AbstractThe identification of Pandanus species generally relies on morphological characteristics and requires confirmation from other identification features, such as stomata. A comparative study of stomatal characteristics among nine Pandan species originally from Nias Island, namely Pandanus atrocarpus, P. auranticus, P. labyrinthicus, P. militaris, P. odoratissimus, P. penangensis, P. tectorius, and P. utilis has been investigated. Anomocytic stomata without papillae on subsidiary cells were observed on both leaf surfaces, with significant interspecific differences in adaxial and abaxial stomatal frequencies. Pandanus tectorius exhibited the highest adaxial (30.71 ± 0.81) and abaxial (1.87 ± 0.12) stomatal frequencies. Pandanus labyrinthicus showed the highest stomatal index (adaxial 16.61 ± 2.51, abaxial 0.87 ± 0.11), while P. penangensis had the largest stomatal size (137.54 ± 6.66 µm). Overall, the stomatal parameters, including frequency, index, and size, were higher on the adaxial surface than the abaxial surface, emphasizing interspecific variations. These findings contribute valuable supportive data for the botanical systematics of Pandanus spp. in the region, enhancing our understanding of morphological characteristics crucial for species identification.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the use of organic fertilizer and its impact on environmentally friendly sustainable agriculture. This research was carried out through literature studies from various related literature. Organic fertilizer which comes from natural materials such as plant residues and livestock waste, has benefits in improving the structure of the soil, increasing water retention capacity, and supporting ecosystem sustainability. This research discusses the types of organic fertilizer. From the results of the study, it was found that organic fertilizer was able to increase soil fertility, support microbial activity, and reduce dependence on the use of chemical fertilizers. However, challenges such as the lower nutrient content compared to chemical fertilizers, the decomposition time which takes quite a long time, and even the lack of understanding of farmers are the main obstacles. In conclusion, this study emphasizes that organic fertilizer is an important element in sustainable agriculture, especially in maintaining soil quality and the environment.

Abstract

Fertilizer is an important factor in increasing the growth and yield of chili plants (Capsicum annuum L.). The selection of the right type of fertilizer greatly determines productivity and environmental sustainability in the long term. This study aims to analyze the differences between chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers in chili plant cultivation, including plant growth, yields, and their impact on soil fertility. The method used is a literature review by examining various previous studies that discuss the effectiveness of both types of fertilizers. The results of the analysis show that chemical fertilizers provide faster growth and higher yields in the short term because their nutrients are more easily absorbed by plants. However, excessive use can cause soil degradation, decreased organic matter content, and environmental pollution. In contrast, organic fertilizers work more slowly, but are able to increase soil fertility, improve soil structure, and support the balance of agricultural ecosystems in the long term. The combination of chemical and organic fertilizers has proven to be the best strategy in increasing chili productivity while maintaining soil health. Therefore, balanced fertilization with the right dose is highly recommended to ensure optimal harvest results without damaging the environment.

Abstract

To maintain sustainable agricultural productivity, one of the major challenges is controlling pests and plant diseases. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches use a variety of biological, physical, chemical, and cultural control techniques to reduce the impact of pests and diseases while maintaining ecosystem balance. The use of natural enemies, crop rotation, environmental management, and the use of sensory and environmentally friendly methods are all components of this strategy. The purpose of this study is to determine whether various IPM methods work well in various farming systems. In addition, this study will also investigate how these methods impact crop productivity, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability. The results showed that regular use of IPM strategies can suppress pest populations and disease levels below economic thresholds, increase crop yields, and reduce environmental pollution levels. Farmers must be actively involved in the implementation, receive intensive extension, and receive government policy support. This integrated method offers a sustainable solution to overcome plant diseases and pests.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of varying light intensity on photosynthesis efficiency in plant growth. Photosynthesis is a vital process for plants, relying on solar energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. The intensity of light received by plants significantly determines the efficiency of photosynthesis and plant growth. This research was conducted using a literature review method, analyzing various scientific sources to understand how light intensity affects the photosynthesis process. The results indicate that optimal light intensity enhances the rate of photosynthesis, while excessively low or high intensity can hinder plant growth. Other factors, such as light spectrum, light duration, and plant adaptation to specific light conditions, also influence photosynthesis efficiency.

Abstract

The modernization of the agricultural sector through the application of appropriate technology and eco-friendly innovations has become a key pillar in achieving advanced, independent, and sustainable agriculture. This study aims to examine the role of various technologies—such as drone-based land mapping, smart farming systems, green technology, and agricultural waste utilization—in improving agricultural efficiency and productivity in Indonesia. This review is based on 23 relevant scientific journals covering aspects of technology, farmers’ socio-economics, and agricultural policy. The results of the discussion show that the integration of modern technology, farmer group empowerment, and adaptive policy support is a crucial strategy to address current agricultural challenges, including climate change and limited resources. Therefore, collaboration between farmers, the government, and academia is essential to promote widespread and sustainable adoption of agricultural technologies.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of fertilizer extension and fertilization in the women's farmer group "Cerdas" in Lawelu Village, Ulumoro'o District, West Nias Regency. The research method used a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, structured interviews, and questionnaires. The results showed that 75% of respondents experienced an increase in understanding of fertilizer types, doses, and application times after counseling. However, implementation in the field is still constrained by limited access to subsidized fertilizer (60% of respondents). The conclusion of this study states that extension is effective in improving knowledge but requires policy support to improve fertilizer accessibility.
