Abstract

Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) is a waste product from the palm oil industry that often causes environmental problems. Its potential as a pozzolan for soil stabilization has been proven; however, the low CaO content makes it an ineffective sole stabilization material. Some researchers suggest reducing the particle size of pozzolan materials to optimize stabilization. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of increasing POFA particle fineness in peat stabilization. The study uses samples stabilized with fine and coarse POFA at 30%, 35%, and 40% of the soil's dry weight. California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests were conducted after curing for 0, 7, 14, and 28 days. Test results show that the highest CBR values for samples with fine and coarse POFA are 5.48% and 5.80%, respectively, with coarse POFA consistently outperforming fine POFA at all curing times. For samples with the same curing time, the CBR value difference between 30% and 40% POFA is less than 1.00, except for fine POFA at 40% after 28 days, which is 1.25 higher than 30%. However, the performance of peat samples with 40% fine POFA is only comparable to those with 35% coarse POFA after 28 days. Based on these results, it can be seen that POFA is more effective as a filler rather than a pozzolan material for peat soil. As a filler, coarse POFA can better enhance the stability of peat.

Abstract

Roads are the primary infrastructure for land transportation, facilitating traffic from one place to another. The road from Desa Simpang/Berbak to Simpang Ma. Sabak in Muara Sabak Timur District, Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, faces a significant issue with low California Bearing Ratio (CBR) values of the subgrade soil. These low CBR values can lead to instability and deformation of the subgrade, ultimately damaging the rigid pavement built upon it. This study aims to evaluate the influence of subgrade CBR values and concrete quality on the thickness of rigid pavement for the road from Desa Simpang/Berbak to Simpang Ma. Sabak. The research employs a quantitative approach using the AASHTO 1993 method. The results indicate that subgrade CBR values and concrete quality significantly affect the thickness of rigid pavement. Higher CBR values allow for a reduction in concrete slab thickness, while higher concrete quality increases the modulus of elasticity and flexural strength of the concrete, enabling a reduction in slab thickness. However, the influence of CBR values is more significant than that of concrete quality, particularly at higher concrete grades.In conclusion, improving subgrade CBR values is more effective in reducing rigid pavement thickness than solely enhancing concrete quality. Further economic analysis is recommended to evaluate the most cost-effective combination of concrete quality and subgrade CBR values, considering both construction and long-term maintenance costs.

Abstract

Revitalisasi Sungai pada daerah anak Sungai yang dangkal meliputi penggalian dan pelebaran sungai menjadi fokus utama untuk mengatasi banjir. Disepanjang aliran anak Sungai asam berdiri banyak bangunan menyebabkan lahan untuk pelebaran Sungai menjadi kecil sehingga rawan terjadi longsor jika tidak diberi perkuatan pada lereng sungai. Penelitian ini berfokuskan untuk mendesain perkuatan lereng Sungai menggunakan dinding penahan tanah kantilever dengan memperhitungkan pengaruh elevasi muka air Sungai dengan empat kondisi. Hasil penelitian didapatkan nilai faktor keamanan yang berbeda-beda dari setiap ketinggian elevasi muka air sungai, pada elevasi air normal, elevasi air baniir, elevasi air setelah banjir dan pada elevasi air surut Dapat disimpulkan dalam desain awal dinding penahan tanah kantilever pada lereng Sungai perlu memperhitungkan fluktuasi muka air Sungai karna berpengaruh terhadap dimensi rencana dan nilai faktor keamanan.
