Abstract

The murder case committed by a University of Indonesia student occurred on August 23 2023 and was motivated by the perpetrator getting into online loan debt due to losing playing crypto. Economic factors are one of the many factors that cause someone to commit criminal acts. Online loans have claimed many victims because debt collectors collect them in inhumane ways, causing many online loan victims to become stressed to the point of committing suicide. High interest rates and the sharing of victims' personal data are one of the dangers of online loans. In this day and age, many online loan victims commit crimes up to murder because they don't know what else to do to pay off debts with unreasonable interest rates. Here, it explains that economic factors that are unable to provide certainty for life can result in high crime rates in society. The role of government and law enforcement is needed to be able to provide economic regulations that can improve the welfare of the people and criminalise individuals or groups that cause harm to other people so that the number of crimes decreases and people can live comfortably in their environment.

Abstract

This study examines the role of ethics and professionalism of the police as law enforcers in maintaining public trust, with a case study of ethical and legal violations committed by Ferdy Sambo. This case highlights the gap between public expectations of the integrity of the police and the reality of practices in the field, which has an impact on the crisis of public trust in the police institution. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method through literature studies and data analysis from various news sources and related literature. The findings show that violations of the code of ethics and abuse of power by officers, especially in the case of Ferdy Sambo, worsen the image and legitimacy of the police institution. The failure of the internal monitoring system and the weak implementation of sanctions for ethical violations are the main factors in the decline in public trust. This study emphasizes the importance of implementing the principles of integrity, justice, and responsibility as stipulated in Law No. 2 of 2002 and Regulation of the Chief of Police No. 14 of 2011. This study also provides strategic recommendations to strengthen the monitoring system and enforcement of the code of ethics in order to restore public trust. Thus, improving ethics and professionalism within the police force is key to restoring the legitimacy and public trust in the police institution in Indonesia.

Abstract

The role of interviews in talk shows as a medium for shaping public awareness of civic values is an effective way to convey values from various aspects and experiences of the interviewees with the talk show host through casual conversation, but still within the scope of the discussion. The study employed a qualitative method with a content analysis approach on various talk show episodes covering social, legal, educational, and cultural themes. Data collection was conducted using the observation-recording method from a total of 33 talk show episodes across 11 national television programs and digital platforms. The research results indicate that talk shows have strong educational potential in conveying moral messages, national values, and encouraging active community participation in national and state life. The civic values that emerge in the programs include: integrity, justice, equality, inclusivity, environmental awareness, legal compliance, and social participation. The inclusive representation of sources reflects the diversity and involvement of various elements of society in building civic values. The findings and recommendations discussed in this article emphasize the importance of monitoring and developing the quality of talk show content as an effective non-formal civic education tool.
