A positive attitude is a powerful tool that fosters enthusiasm, promotes self-esteem, and creates an atmosphere conducive to learning. Achievement in a target language relies not only on intellectual capacity, but also on the learnerâs attitudes towards language learning. Attitudes could be viewed as a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing, idea, person, situation etc. The attitudes that the students should have are attitude towards the language, attitude towards learning the language, attitude towards the language teacher, and attitude towards school in general. This study focuses on discussing about encouraging students to have positive attitudes toward learning English.

This research focuses on the implementation of reading aloud in developing students’ speaking skill. It aims to find out whether the implementation of reading aloud develops the students’ speaking skill. This research used correlation research design in which questionnaire and speaking test are the instruments of this research. The population of this research is the first semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The sample of this research is selected through purposive sampling technique. One class represented as the sample that is class B. The result of this research shows that reading aloud can be effective way in teaching speaking class since there is a significant relationship between reading aloud and the students’ speaking skill. It is determined by p value of 0,027 which is below 0,05. Thus, the implementation of reading aloud significantly contributed to develop students’ speaking skill.

This research aimed at finding out the use of flowchart in improving the ability of the fifth semester students of Informatics Engineering Study Program of Cokroaminoto Palopo University to write paragraph and to find out the interest of the students to write paragraph by using flowchart. This research was pre-experimental. Independent variable of the research is using flowchart in writing a paragraph and dependent variable is the ability of students to write a paragraph. The population of the research was the fifth semester students of Informatics Engineering Study Program of Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo. The sample was one class of the fifth semester students of Informatics Engineering Study Program of Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo. The result shows that flowchart is effective to use in improving students’ ability in writing because there was a significant difference between the progresses in writing of the students who were studying through flowchart and those are not. By flowchart strategy, the students can express their ideas easily without stopping and rushing. It gave them writing power and easy to understand.

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian ini diadakan dengan maksud dan tujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih intensif kepada para peserta yang berkaitan dengan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris khususnya Speaking English. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini diharapkan para peserta mampu menguasai Speaking English lebih baik lagi kedepannya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan selama 2 hari secara daring atau online melalui Zoom Meeting. Hasil dari kegiatan ini seluruh peserta merasa sangat senang dan semakin termotivasi untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris. Hal ini terlihat dari partisipasi mereka yang aktif merespons dan bertanya kepada narasumber mulai dari awal hingga akhir kegiatan

This research presented the Application of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Method through Grammar Practice Activities to Improve the Grammar Ability of the Fifth Semester Students of Informatic Study Program, Faculty of Computer Engineering, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of grammar practice activities in CLT method in improving the grammar ability of the the Fifth Semester Students of Informatic Study Program, Faculty of Computer Engineering, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The instruments of the research were test and questionnaire. The result of the research shows that the highest percentage was 56.8% of samples got good in grammar comprehension. The analysis of the test showed that the application of grammar practice activities in CLT method is effective based on the coefficient level a = 0.05 / 5% = 2.045, the researcher found that the significance test of the pre-test and post-test result was 14.522. And based on the questionnaire, this application was effective with the calculation of percentage was 33.3% strongly agree, 6.7% was strongly disagree.

The objectives of this study are (1) to identify and classify the errors of the second semester students of Informatic Study Program Cokroaminoto Palopo University in using simple past tense, (2) to describe the frequency occurrence of the errors. The instrument used was a test on English simple past tense. The population of the study was the second semester students of Informatic Study Program Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The sample consisted of 50 students. Students errors identified in this study were categories into three types, namely, errors of omission, errors of addition and errors of misformation. The result of the analysis shows that there were in all, 1234 errors among 50 students. The types of errors among the students in constructing and using English simple past tense consisted of 68 (5%) errors of omission, 95 (8%) errors of addition and 1071 (87%) errors of misformation. From the highest to the lowest, the errors were: misformation, addition, and omission. The result of further analysis shows that the students seemingly have problems in each category omission, addition and misformation. The average number of errors made of all the students was 46%. From the percentage, it can be concluded that the students’ mastery in using English simple past tense was poor. It is hoped that the finding of the present study will be useful for the teaching of English, especially the teaching of English simple past tense.

The objectives of this research were to find out: the ability of the second semester students of Informatics Study Program at Cokroaminoto Palopo University in writing paragraph through quickwriting. This research employed quantitative method. The method used in this research was pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The istrument was writing test. The results of the research shows that quickwriting is effective to be used to improve students’ ability in writing because there was a significant difference between the progresses in writing of the students who were studying through quickwriting and those are not. By quickwriting strategy, the students can express their ideas easily without stopping and rushing. It gave them writing power and easy to understand. No more stopping in writing because it’s under the pressure of time, and the students’ attitude of the second semester students of Informatics Study Program Cokroaminoto Palopo University in learning English writing was positive and more interested in learning English writing through quickwriting strategy. It was proved that there was significant difference between the result of students’ pre-test and post-test by the value of t-test (12.50) is greater than the value of t-table (2.011).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan sebuah Rancang Bangun Sistem Informasi Penjualan dan Data Barang pada Toko Syarlie Distro yang dapat memudahkan dalam manajemen pengolahan data pada toko agar lebih efisien dan akurat. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development (R&D) dengan menggunakan model penelitian waterfall dan metode pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, wawancara dan studi pustaka. Pembuatan aplikasi menggunakan Netbeans IDE 8.2, bahasa pemrograman Java dan basis data MySQL serta ireport untuk pembuatan laporan. Teknik pengujian sistem yang digunakan yaitu pengujian black box. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian black box pada sistem yang dilakukan oleh dua orang ahli diperoleh hasil rata-rata persentase sebesar 100% yang berarti semua tombol dan menu berfungsi dengan baik dan sistem berjalan sebagaimana mestinya. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebuah aplikasi Sistem Informasi Penjualan dan Data Barang (SIPDB) berbasis Desktop pada Toko Syarlie Distro Kota Palopo.

Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa internasional yang digunakan di berbagai negara. Di Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa asing dan merupakan mata pelajaran wajib mulai dari jenjang sekolah dasar sampai perguruan tinggi. Namun dalam kehidupan sehari-hari banyak pelajar yang kurang tertarik mempelajari Bahasa Inggris dan beranggapan bahwa Bahasa Inggris adalah sesuatu yang sulit. Pengabdi tertarik untuk memberikan pendampingan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dasar (basic English) kepada anak-anak yang tergabung dalam Taman Pendidikan Al-Quran Perumahan Harmoni Kota Palopo untuk menanamkan ketertarikan belajar Bahasa Inggris. Usia anak-anak yang aktif di Taman Pendidikan AL-Quran Perumahan Harmoni yaitu anak-anak pelajar Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK) dan Sekolah Dasar (SD). Proses pendampingan ini dilakukan secara regular dua kali sepekan selama enam bulan yaitu dimulai pada bulan Januari sampai Juni 2022. Pengabdi mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris dasar bagi anak-anak dengan metode ceramah tapi santai, brainstorming, listen and repeat, songs, question and answer, coloring, question, and inquiry. Media yang digunakan adalah boardmarker, gambar, lembar tugas sederhana. Pembelajaran dilakukan dengan berbagai tema yang menarik untuk anak-anak. Hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah anak-anak bisa belajar Bahasa Inggris dengan santai dan tanpa mereka sadari karena dilakukan di luar sekolah. Pengabdi juga mendapatkan kontribusi berupa pengalaman pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak (English for Children).
