Abstract

Compost is a combination of substances used to enrich and nourish the soil. Compost availability is highly beneficial to agriculture. Using EM4 Bio Activator, vegetable and fruit waste may be converted into compost instead of being thrown. The objective of this study is to determine the best amount of EM4 Bio Activator for creating liquid compost. This research uses vegetable and fruit waste, such as pineapple, spinach, banana, long beans, banana stem, papaya, and coconut water, along with a small amount of sugar, as the fermentation's primary ingredient. Variations in the treatment volume of EM4 Bio Activator were 5 mL, 10 mL, and 15 mL. The fermentation process lasts one week. The results conclude that the addition of 10 mL of EM4 Bio Activator is optimal for fermenting Vegetable and Fruit Waste (with the amount specified in the study technique) into Liquid Compost or perhaps EM4 Bio Activator. The approximate ratio for one week of fermentation is 10 mL EM4 Bio Activator per 1.7 kg of mixed ingredients.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the degree of urgency of students' needs for Animalia learning media for class X students at MA Miftahul Ulum Suren Jember after the Covid-19 Pandemic. This study is a preliminary study from research and development (R&D) that is carried out if there is a need for development. This study is confined to an analysis of requirements obtained from early field observations as well as a review of relevant literature. The data that has been obtained will be analyzed descriptively. The interview findings revealed that the tenth-grade teacher required learning media on animalia that were comprehensive, more practical, and capable of assisting pupils in overcoming difficulties, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The results of this study concluded that there is an urgent need for Animalia learning media at MA Miftahul Ulum Suren Jember after the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Abstract

This article presents a study conducted at MAN Sumenep, the only State Madrasah Aliyah in Sumenep Regency that has implemented the Semester Credit System (SKS) and the Usage of Scientific Approach (UKBM) program. The qualitative research method was used, and data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that MAN Sumenep follows a well-structured planning process for biology learning, including the preparation of syllabus, annual and semester programs, effective week plans, and lesson plans integrated with UKBM content. Special training sessions are conducted for teachers to develop UKBM, and resource persons are invited from the Ministry of Religion's Pusdiklat. The evaluation and review of UKBM are carried out regularly, and revisions are made if necessary. Overall, the article highlights the effective implementation of UKBM in MAN Sumenep, which can serve as a valuable model for other schools.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a megadiverse country, holds extensive biodiversity and rich local knowledge, particularly in the use of medicinal plants. This study aimed to document the use of traditional medicinal plants by the Pandalungan community in Taman Village, Grujugan District, Bondowoso Regency, and to assess their phytochemical potential. A qualitative approach was employed through semi-structured interviews using purposive and snowball sampling. Data was collected covering plant species, parts used, and sources of acquisition. A literature-based phytochemical review was also conducted to evaluate the scientific potential of the identified species. The Use Value (UV) was calculated to determine the cultural importance of each species. A total of 25 medicinal plant species were documented, with 13 cultivated, 5 wild, and 7 sourced from traditional markets. The highest UV scores were recorded for Zingiber officinale, Piper betle, Moringa oleifera, and Syzygium polyanthum. Literature analysis revealed that these plants contain key phytochemicals such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, phenols, and essential oils. The findings indicate that local ethnobotanical knowledge holds significant potential for developing natural remedies based on local biodiversity, reinforcing the need for further research and conservation efforts.

Abstract

Abstract

Self-efficacy is a crucial psychological construct in education that significantly impacts students' confidence, motivation, and engagement in learning. However, observations in MAN 2 Kota Probolinggo revealed low self-efficacy among students during biology lessons, mainly because teachercentred instruction failed to foster active participation and confidence. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Make a Match learning model, supported by picture card media, in improving students' self-efficacy in learning the human respiratory system. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving an experimental group taught with the intervention and a control group taught using conventional models. Pretest and posttest data were analyzed using statistical tests to assess the intervention's impact. The findings indicated that the experimental group showed a significant improvement in self-efficacy, with a mean posttest score of 102.44 compared to 90.67 in the control group (t = -7.897, p < .000). The Make a Match model combined with picture card media effectively fostered mastery experiences, vicarious learning, and social persuasion, aligning with Bandura's Social Learning Theory. This research highlights the importance of interactive, visually engaging teaching strategies for building students' confidence and participation, particularly in challenging biology topics such as the human respiratory system. The study enriches scientific knowledge by demonstrating how structured peer interaction and visual aids can enhance self-efficacy in science education. Nevertheless, the study was confined to a single school and a single biological issue, suggesting that future research should focus on broader settings and long-term implications across multiple scientific areas.
